Can't cancel my line?

having way too many problems with my nexus one so I decided to cancel the line. this is a new line just opened last friday.
I called tmo and asked them to cancel the line so I can send the phone back and they stated that they couldn't cancel the line for me, that I needed to contact google since I bought the phone from them! What????
anyone else outhere having problems canceling with tmo? I was bounced from tmobile to htc to somebody from google! what a mess

I lol'd a little, but feel bad for you man. I swear, these issues in Google's new business model are just laughable. You would think that it is intuitive and reasonable to believe that if you want to cancel a line of service, you cancel it with the carrier providing it (i.e. T-Mo). But no, it has to be so much more difficult than that! I really hope that you find out. Once you do, post it up here because I'm sure that there'll be others looking to cancel their lines and return their phones and will benefit from the answers you find.

What the deuce? Is google providing the phone service? I understand you having to send the phone back to Google as you seem to have bought it unsubsidized. But shouldn't Tmobile need to cancel the line before you do that? This seems to set up a situation where you'll have returned a phone with an active line (possibly pending Tmobile cancellation upon Google notification) which means if someone gets hold of it between you and google you might be really screwed.

yep, really mad right now. I'll call Tmobile again tonight and demand to cancel the line, the last person I talked to from "google" stated that they only troubleshoot the phone and would have to call HTC for the return.
Man, I know I'm just sitting here laughing and thinking; what the hell is google thinking? now Tmobile and their great customer service are also helpless as they don't know what to do.
I'll keep you guys posted when I call again tonight, I just need to chill for a few hours before I talk to anyone else again!

WTF? You buy the phone unsubsidized HTC phone from Google. You get a plan on Tmobile because I assume you actually like 3G and are in a major city that has their 3G coverage. But if you want to cancel the thing you need to contact all three parties? Thanks just ridiculous.
Any chance this improves when it launches for Verizon?

I hope things get better for verizon and they don't agree to the same terms as Tmobile. This is pretty messed up!

Talked to another rep not too long ago and requested to get my line canceled, he immediately told me he would transfer me to google to take care of the problem. This time I asked to talk to a supervisor and after 10 of being on hold, they finally cancelled the line.
Just FYI, in case they try to do the same with someone else. Peace and good luck

So just to be clear, you have to talk to Google to cancel your Tmobile line? Did the Google guy take care of the phone return as well?

No, the google employee he transfered me was only going to troubleshoot the phone. I still have to call htc to get the RMA

A supervisor from Tmo canceled the order, but not before talking to someone from google. they transfered me to google and did not want to give me their phone number to contact them directly.
if you are planing on cancelling the line, call Tmo and if the rep doesn't want to cancel the line, ask to speak with a supervisor.

Oh my freakin' goodness! Dude, I can't imagine the frustration of having to be shuffled around to people who had no idea. Insane! I don't even own an N1 and I'm frustrated FOR YOU! Man, I know if I were in your shoes, I would be absolutely livid! So, now, you have a phone that you can call out on, and have no RMA for. Insane...

well, after two days and may phone calls; finally canceled the order and talk to HTC to get my RMA. wow, what a freaking mess!!!
I hope verizon offers teh phone at corporate stores.

Stories like your's are weakening my determination to wait for the N1 to come out on Verizon. I'm hoping (probably foolishly) the pricing options are better for Verizon. But I don't see the support setup being any different then it is on Tmobile.

I'm actually thinking that it'll be more expensive on VZW. $30 for a LIMITED data plan + $50 for LIMITED voice, maybe even $70. So, $100/month-ish?

Depends on what they do. You can surely get a less expensive plan combo if you truly have your choice (why everyone spouts off about Google's freedom is beyond me).
But I was really just talking about the price of the phone. I can upgrade my line on my family plan to a Droid for $230 on a 1 year contract. For a current tmobile user they have to pay $279 for a 2 year contract I believe for the N1 (or if they are on a family plan $530). Despite my hopes somehow I don't see myself being allowed to get a N1 on a 1 year plan, but I guess I'll see.
