Help How To Transfer Data From Broken Evo to New Evo?

Hi All,
Wife's EVO got dropped last night, screen shattered into approx. 50 trillion pieces. Getting her a new EVO today (with my upgrade). Is there a way to transfer all her data from the broken phone to the new phone? Can I save it all on the broken phone SD card then put that card into the new phone?

I searched the forum before posting but didn't find an answer. Apologies if re-post.

Outside of itesm on the SD card, what information would you be "transferring"? Isn't everything currently synced with Google?

Good question. Contacts are in the Google cloud, yes. She has some apps that can't be stored on the SD card but outside of that I'm not really sure what there would be.

IIRC, those are associated with her google account as well. If not she just needs to download them once again.

If the phone wasn't broken I would suggest using one of the back up apps.

if the touchscreen doesn't work, you'll probably lose your call history, SMS history, etc. contacts, email, calendar events should live on Google's cloud, so those will be synced to your new phone when you sign in. App-specific data, homescreen layout, etc are pretty much lost.

Now, you do have some options if getting that stuff is very important. You can have them replace the screen. Or you can do it yourself. Lots of good videos and instructions online. I've taken apart an iPhone to replace the battery, and I've seen the instructions on how to replace screens for the Evo. It's not difficult.

SD card can be swapped with the one from the new phone. So some app data/settings that saved to SD card will be restored once you reinstall the app on the new phone. That will have to be a manual process.

It's a good idea (if you haven't already in the past) to get a backup app like MyBackup, which backs up your apps, history, logs, settings, homescreens, etc. That way if you ever had this happen again, you could at least restore a good amount of stuff (up to your last backup). All you'd need to do is install mybackup on the new phone, and restore. the backup data is either saved to your SD card, or you can save it to the cloud, your choice.

Very helpful, thank you. I might just try to replace the screen. I have the Sprint insurance but am not keen on refurbished phones.

I am having the same problem, did anyone find a fix? This seems crazy, there has to be a way to extract data, the phone its self is not corrupt and my computer recognizes the device, has anyone found an override to allow access to the phone's hard drive. I use my phone as my camera and have lots of memories on that phone Thanks for any advice!

Welcome to AF!!...
If you need to retreive pictures, they should be on your sd card in a folder named DCIM....you can remove your sd card, put it in a card reader and plug into your computer and retrieve your pictures.

I have a new EVO 4G and want to ensure I can backup all settings, apps, pics, music, I would use a backup app however my sd card is full of pics no more space left to add an app. I connected to Laptop as drive and copied all contents to c drive could not see sd card with pics and lecture audio recordings I would like to save these and I do not want to update my apps, What is the best way to proceed?

So your computer could not "see" your sd card? I am not clear on if you were successful in transfering your pix and recordings to your computer.
When you plugged in the phone to your computer, and mounted as disk drive, could you see your sd card contents in the corresponding drive? (d: or e: or f?
