Okay, I have read through some threads on here regarding dodgy batteries you can buy off ebay etc. But usually these are 1500, 1600 or even 1800. But now I've come across this...

Gone through the first 10 pages of feedback, and the responses on these batteries seem positive. What do you all think?

Personally, I'm suspicious that they can fit so much extra power into the same amount of space. Usually extended batteries either provide a minor boost or are much larger than the original, so it's odd that this one is almost double and yet fits inside the phone.

I made a post about this subjet only last week and found spent many a hour looking for batterys for my dhd.
But there are business battery,s as they call on ebay and how on earth can they get thay much mah in a battery that size.
Sadly they are repacked and shiped on to us guys.
I recived a dhd docking station and replacement battery from amazon last week and i was only after the dock but this batt came with it.
I poped it in the dhd becouse it said 1600mah i ran a battery app to find out what was going on and it maxed out at 1230 mah so it,s a fake or a real one just differant packeging.
The only store i have found with real positive feedback is for a outlet called obostore.com.
They make there own batterys in house and test and verify the mah before shipping.

My 5 year old PSP actually has a similar mah battery in it, but its twice the size.

I wont go into how it seems to have a longer battery life, but this think if things carry on in this way, we will have a 2500mah battery for the desire HD in about 5 years.

Hmm. After I posted about this yesterday I found a similar app called System Monitor, which also tells you the max mAh of your current battery. Not so surprisingly, considering how cheap it was, my extend battery shows as 1230mAh. The same goes for when I use Battery Monitor Widget.

However, I also emailed the dev about it asking if that value was taken from the battery or whether it was just 1230 because I was using a DHD his response was:

It shows whatever the battery controller tells the OS, but HTC has been lazy on a few models and hardcoded it in the driver... It never decays from 1600 here, so the phone keeps dying at "14%" battery left...

So, nope, that field doesn't really work on the hd.

So now I don't know how much stock to put into those readings. I might try this test in stead.

Also if you have a digital electronic tester try it that way that should give you good reading but i think thats a poor excuse from the seller.

That's not the seller giving the info, it was the developer of the battery app.

Yes, I did try Battery Monitor Widget and it showed it was only 1230mAh. But given the response from the dev of a similar app, System Monitor, I don't know whether or not those readings are actually accurate.

Has anyone got an extended battery that came up as more than 1230mAh? I guess that would settle it.

I'll check now, I've a couple of "higher" capacity batteries I bought from ebay a while back.

Both 1500mAh batteries show the same as the stock one, 1230mAh. That's using the Battery Monitor Widget.

I guess that settles it - my extended battery isn't what it claims to be.

It really does make me angry when they sell re-wraped standard battery packs.
And they do it becouse they know getting anything more 1230mah is next to impossibles.
But having said my new battery pack came yesterday and it,s a real deal 1800mah ive tested it via battery moitor widget and also last night went to a friends house to use his amprobe capacity tester.
And it showed 1774mah but dont forget it,s brand new and after a couple of cycles it should go up.
He did say bring the battery back after a week or so,s use and a propper report can be made on whats going on inside the cellsa

I bought exactly the same battery. And have exactly the same results as you. Although, i had to take of the gold wrapper as it wasnt fitted right to the batteery!! I contacted the seller and asked for my money back. Still waiting for an answer

This is an interesting point.

I had taken the view that by changing the capacity figure manually I would be getting a better estimation of the battery life remaining. And should that be no different to the original battery I would therefore see an increased/more accelerated depletion in the estimates. Which to be honest is true.

Essentially the battery I have is proving to be a cheap backup battery but not one that has provided a significant improvement over the original one.

I am considering purchasing the obostore one.

What the purchases of the DHD has confirmed to me is two things:

1 - My thinking that I would like the Android OS has been proven
2 - More importantly, I will only buy phone models for which extended batteries can be easily purchased and which the phone assembly can comfortably accommodate. No more uni-body stuff. Lessons learnt!

So the questions becomes... how do we identify phone models which can a) accommodate larger batteries and b) for which there will be significant after market battery accessories?
