Help 2.2 Update Failed

Just got off the phone with Verizon tech support and I was told some phones are not compatible with the new update and they are sending me a new phone but they cant guarantee the replacement will work. They told me certain esn numbers are affected and this is Samsung's fix WTF>

This is hooey. I don't believe VZ on this. The issue lies somewhere else I would bet. It is really pissing me off now too ...

I'm on retry 8-9 now, getting annoying and i'm not going to have vzw tell me to talk to Samsung. Samsung didn't sell me the phone, they did...if they try to tell you to contact Samsung or refer you to them, tell them no. Make them solve the problem or give you a new phone, at least that's what i'm going to do if I can't force mine to update somehow.

They told me to go here
Samsung
got to software
download the third one that says kies mini. hook it up with a comp and it should work.

This is complete crap!! Verizon is a SERVICE PROVIDER, they offered this software update OTA as a SERVICE to their customers. I am on the phone right now with tech support they are sending me a new device!! I HATE VERIZON!:mad:

I think I might need to also. Plus it says kies for mesmerize. It looks like all the reps are stalling in hopes someone will get it to work for you. I dont want another refurbished device though when I bought this one new and there is nothing wrong other then it cant update.

I have the same problem with it not updating. I went to a VZW store and talked to a rep that also had the fascinate. He hadnt tried updating his yet but he tried to do it twice on mine and it failed. He told me he looked into the system and this is a known issue. He then told me I could get another fascinate but most likely the problem will occur again. He said the best thing to do is to wait a few days and most likely it will be fixed soon and if it cant be fixed then Ill have the option to move to another android phone. Im over verizon and this phone. Talking to them doesnt do anything. It took forever to get this update I can only imagine how long it will take them to fix the issues.

I got it installed. In My case I was rooted and deleted some original apps. The rep told me if its missing any stock apps because of that then it might not load. I reinstalled the original 2.1 OS and then was able to add 2.2.

Yeah that's what I just did too. Wiped it back to stock with Odin, and it kicked in. Gonna restore with backup pro now and hopefully it will all run smooth.

Many of the people trying to update have not rooted. I just spoke to Verizon Tech support and they said I should be happy that it gave me an error. Many that were able to update have had to get new phones because they don't work after the update. Tech Support said that there is an encryption issue that needs to be fixed and the update will eventually be pushed to my phone. Have to play the waiting game again. This is infuriating!

I call BS, if that was the issue the update would have been pulled. VZW isn't in the business of having updates that will brick phones so they have to hand out new ones or even refurb ones. He just doesn't know whats up and figures if you wait, it will work. That's my guess at least.

I'd say try this, and get the free version of My Backup. [HOW TO] Return to Stock for Froyo Update - Android Forums

No harm in trying that, pretty straight forward. Even if you've never rooted, it might still work.

The rep on the phone told me to go to a VZW store and they would backup and master reset (Im sure this means a factory reset) then reactivate. If this doesn't work I will be requesting to switch phones and get as far away from Samsung as I can.

I was ASSURED by the Verizon level 2 Tech guy that my new Fascinate would ship with 2.2. It f*&#king better! I do not blame Samsung for this fiasco-am waiting anxiously for the SG2-as they seem to be able to support their other devices (including other galaxy S models) with little to no issues. I put this squarely on the shoulders of 'Bingizon'. If I could switch carriers right now I would! I don't want to give these fools anymore of my hard earned money but they've got me by the.....

I have run into the same problem as many of you. The VZ tech svc rep was quick to offer to replace my phone or upgrade me to a new phone. We got Samsung on the line and the best they could offer was to send the phone in to them and they would install 2.2 at their shop. As I can't NOT have my phone for 3-4 days that was not an option.

I explained to the Samsung rep that proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance and that Samsung should have been better prepared to handle these issues. Send your phone back to us is not an issue.

Samsung lost my business today.

I ordered a new phone. It's an Apple.

While I like many aspects of Android, the circus performance of Samsung makes say mo mas.

My Iphone arrives tomorrow.

Cool! Did Verizon give you any type of Case or Incident ID for tracking? Have you had other problems with the phone and contacted Verizon? I'm a little surprised they would offer the phone be replaced so quickly. Of course, we may try the same approach as well... ;)
