Droid X Android version?

So I'm pretty new to the forums, I figured it would be more direct to ask here than google my questions (I've tried, not exactly found what I've been looking for). Either way, I just ordered a Droid X yesterday, so officially I haven't gotten it yet. I'm completely new to Android, I'm coming from an iPhone 3GS, and I never really was a fan of Apple allover. But I ordered a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) phone, to keep fifty dollars in my pocket. After reading more and more about Android versions, ect., I noticed on the Verizon page for the CPO Droid X, it says it runs under 2.1, or "Eclair," which I've heard to not be terrible, but not as good as 2.2 "Froyo," or 2.3 "Gingerbread." I was wondering, when I receive the phone, which I'm expecting to either be Monday or Tuesday, seeing as tomorrow's Easter, if there would be a way to update to 2.2 or 2.3, because I've heard great things about Android, and I'd love to experience it to its fullest potential. Thanks for any input!

I would be surprised if it wasn't already on 2.2 when you get it, but even if it is then all you'll have to do is go to menu/settings/about phone/sytem updates and then click on 'check for updates'. At which point it should find the 2.2 update and you can download it immediatelly.

2.3 is rumored to be released on May 10th. But many of us have flashed one of the two leaks that are out. If you don't feel comfortable rooting and flashing a custom ROM this early, then the wait until the OTA is available won't be very long... provided the rumor is accurate that is.

Welcome to the world of Android, I hope you enjoy your stay.
