HTC Hero Questions

Hello,

I recently purchased an HTC Hero with Sprint a few days ago. I've been overall satisfied with the phone so far, but have some questions I'm hoping someone can answer/help me with. I've looked through as many threads as I could and tried the advice I found, but still no luck.
-The phone seems incredibly slow all the time. I came from a Palm pre, which had issues itself, but the Hero seems so much slower. Opening apps takes time, even the phone takes time. I've installed and app killer, no luck. Ive reset the phone to factory settings, no luck. Ive updated preferences, deleted apps, reset phone. still nothing. I read and was told that the Hero was faster than the Pre, but mine doesn't seem that way.
-Wifi always drops when connected to my home router. My wifes Sprint phone always stays connected, but not mine. I reset the router, disconnected and reconnected the phone, tried all advice that I could find. Nothing.
-Visual voicemail doesnt work with bluetooth. I was told that this may not be a phone issue, but rather that the application doesnt allow bluetooth. Can anyone confirm?
-Applications on Scenes dont refresh. Whether its emails, the clock, the weather...nothing refreshes. I've gone into the settings and adjusted as needed, but still nothing. I have to reset the phone to get anything to refresh some times.

Any advice would be appreciated. Again, I've looked in as many threads as I could find and took the advice that was there, but nothing has helped. I'm beginning to wonder if I just have a faulty phone. I'm still within my 30 day trial period. Does anyone know-Since I'm within my 30 days, if I request an exchange for a NEW Hero and explain my issues, will they send me a NEW Hero or refurbished?

Anyone on here transition from a PRE to a HERO? Just curious about others thoughts as well. I love both phones, but am interested in the android platform until Palm fixes the build of the Pre. The main thing I miss is having all my IM's and texts all in one view.

Thanks!

I transitioned from the Pre to the Hero and the Hero is much faster. It does still lag but no where near the extreme that the Pre did. I am inclined to think you have a bad phone. I would try a complete wipe and see if that fixes the speed and refresh issues. I don't use visual voicemail so I can't comment there. If you are within your 30 days they should swap you for a new one as you could just as easily cancel your contract and start a new one. I would not accept a refurb.

I tried a complete wipe...still nothing. Thanks for the advice tho. I hope you're right about the phone being bad...I think I'm just going to try to replace it. After all the refurbs I had from the Pre ( one was found to be faulty upon the delivery to the Sprint Store), Im reluctant to accept anything beyond a new phone if a new one is warranted.

download "advanced task killer" and run that. that will fix your problems

it is like a computer with all the software wanting to run at boot up. it will slow you down and lag. after I run this about everytime I use the device I have NO ISSUES with lag.

As mentioned, Ive installed an app killer (advance task killer actually). Nothing, still laggy. I think I'm just going to ask for a replcement since im still within my 30 days.

On another note, have you ever noticed while using Advanced task killer that when you hit "KILL SELECTED APPS" that the Hero will restart the device? I had it fully restart once, but other times the HTC logo will pop up and then the device will go back to the home screen in about 10 seconds. I didnt know if this was normal since sometimes the task killer just kills the apps and goes back to the home screen.

Thanks for the advice tho!

Check out the sticky on task killers. They really aren't needed (except in rare cases of a program not closing at all)

Also, chances are the crappy sprint apps are slowing your phone down. Or, an app you downloaded is slowing your phone down (check for updates in the market).

The dialer does take a few seconds to connect the call (at least, mine does). As far as I know, there's no fix for that (might not even technically be a problem). Some apps do just open slow. Handcent had a major lag in opening recently, but an update just fixed that.

Finally, make sure you've gotten the most recent firmware upgrade, as that fixes quite a few issues the phone had.

I just UPGRADED from a Pre to a Sprint HTC Hero also. Got it at same time i upgraded wife's Palm Treo 755p to a BB Curve 8530 trackpad. I updated the "rom" on my Hero THAT NIGHT. I hadn't ever heard of it, but was searching for ways of speeding up my Hero just like you! I can't tell you how blazingly fast my Hero is now! And the apps..wow!! I am sooo satisfied. My 18 yr old has my Pre and likes it compared to his Rant he had. I'm just a fire fighter, not a techie, but it's been pretty easy to "upgrade..wink-wink" this phone. I can send you some helpful links if you want to email me. One in particular has awesome apps to look at BEFORE you get too involved with your phone!! Email me at garmansb72@gmail.com. Good Luck!
