They lied. Blaim Sprint and HTC, Sprint cause they take forever to make any software updates to of their devices. HTC because they are spread so thin with all the android devices under production, development, testing, research, maintenance that we really get a very small slice of the pie being that our Hero is a "finished" product.
What does it matter? The hero is 1.5 and going straight to 2.1. At this point in time people need to remove 1.6 from their brain, any and all phones that would be updated to 1.6 have been. All others that are stuck on 1.5 will be going to 2.1......well phones I care about at least.
I really can't wait for Google Goggles...it will provide a lot of entertainment for me as I sit on the toilet. No longer will I wonder what all this weird crap is that my wife keeps in the bathroom.

I don't think its Sprint and more about HTC and the whole Android scene. They keep exclusivity on Android versions for the Droid and Nexus One to give those models a boost. Sprint is really fast with Palm Pre updates.

its all about the ridiculous Sense UI! HTC needs to stop using that as base an just offer it as a home replacement market app. They could charge for it and be as slow as they want about offering a new version.
