Nexus One? I'll keep Eris...

At what point does the constant search for the latest, greatest phone come to a screeching halt (at least for a while)? After reading Nexus updates on forums, blogs, etc it appears sometimes things "ain't necessarily so". IMHO I think Google is competing against itself. I don't understand why they feel they need to sell their own proprietary phone when an alliance with Verizon is awesome to begin with. Of course, the Nexus is faster and has way more memory than the Eris, but at what cost? In terms of purchase price, connectivity issues, bugs, re-stocking fees, etc I am content with the Eris vs Nexus. I for one am happy to have a reliable package of carrier/manufacturer so that I can use my Eris as a mini-laptop for at least the next year or so. I know the Android market for phones and apps is going to explode wide open this year. It's going to be very interesting.

I had a Blackberry prior to this, and got very used to pulling the battery and doing lots of little things to keep my Curve running fast. So doing little maintainence things doesn't bother me. I know there are people on here who are looking for a perfect phone that requires zero upkeep, and they are completely entitled to that, it's just not how I feel.

Obviously you guys have never tried the Nexus One.

The Eris is riddled with lag issues due to the obsolete ARM11 CPU it uses. The phone dialer is so SLOW on the Eris that you think the phone froze. Frustrating to use its so bad.

Every button on the Eris has a delay before anything happens. Some short some very long delays.

Menus are horrid to use on the Eris its so slow. The HTC mp3 player is very nice but the Eris is so slow it ruins the experience of it.

Surfing the web on the Nexus One with its larger high res screen and superior CPU make the Eris look like it just a waste of time (which the eris is since its so slow when surfing)

Do not compare the Eris to the Nexus One. Eris has 2-year old obsolete hardware with even an older CPU design.

Yes I own the Eris and I cant wait to throw it away once Verizon gets the Nexus One/Passion/Bravo or whatever you want to call it.

One last comment....The Eris hardware is NOT powerful enough to run Android at its current state. Google needs to strip down Android and create an Android Lite verison for these phones like the Eris which use obsolete hardware. I would much rather have a fast Eris with a Lite OS than what the Eris turned out to be.

Napster if you hate the phone so bad then why not exchange it for something else or go run to at&t and get an iphone. All i ever see in your posts here are bitching and whining about something. Theres plenty of other phones if the Eris is so bad!

We haven't tried it because you can't! Unless you know 1 of the 20,000 people that bought one and they let you try it out. Not good odds.

I acknowledge there are delays sometimes when doing things on the Eris, but I stop and realize that this is far better than anything I've ever owned. I know the iPhone is smoother, but don't want to switch to ATT. I paid $49 for the Eris, and if I have to wait an extra second or two here and there, it ain't no bother. Those few seconds don't affect my life one bit, and certainly aren't worth $400.

In time you will be bitching about the Nexus because something else is faster. The mindset people have these days ... always needing the latest and greatest despite cost, and letting the advertisers convince you you need the Mercedes version of everything. No wonder we're in debt!

Where in the world do you get this crap from? If your phone is as buggy and riddled with problems as you claim it is then quit complaining and take it back, exchange it or (my personal choice for you) go get a different phone. My Eris and my girl's Eris have none of the problems you describe.

What does clearing the cache do for the phone?

Clearing the cache will free up memory that different apps take up for faster operation. You can do this by going into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and sort the apps by size menu > sort by size. Now you can look at the largest apps and open them to see if they are taking up any/excess cache.

Are you being a smartass, or do you really not know? If it's the latter, you can look it up much faster than I can explain it.

It was a fair question. No need to jump all over him/her.

I know I know pot and kettle and all that. ;)

Maybe if we agree with Napster he/she will promise to go away? Or maybe we can all pitch in and buy Napster a phone that isn't the world's biggest piece of junk and then he/she will go away.

Napster, dude we get it, your Eris is the biggest piece of garbage made in the history of electronics, ever. Which phone would you be happy with? I guess the rest of us that are happy with our Eris are idiots.

No need for us to buy anything for him (not to be sexist, but there is no way this is a woman). He will get all the money he needs for his next phone from his law suite. :D

I just love the "Do not compare the Eris to the Nexus One. Eris has 2-year old obsolete hardware with even an older CPU design." That's EXACTLY what you are doing.
