Just unplugged My Droid and wow...

MY battery level dropped from 100 percent to 90 percent in less then 10 minutes!! wtf! whats goin on???? my battery life has been sucking major ass since i installed 3 recent apps.. google voice, calorie counter and updated my dolphin browser color. anyone have any ideas on whats goin on? and anyone encountering the same issues?

isn't 90% technically 90-99%. i don't understand why people think the droid should have some magical battery.

ummm i dont think it has a magical battery boss man. it usually stays at 100 percent for a little while, it doesnt drop that fast

I don't know if it's because of a bad update...but dolphin is draining battery REALLY badly!

I tested it and only used the stock browser all day and the battery barely moved. I opened a site on dolphin and could watch the battery meter go down as I opened a page. Since I uninstalled it I have gotten excellent battery life!

i agree with you man! ive noticed that also. after the update, i noticed it does drain alot faster and when i open a link on dolphin, 2 windows open instead of the 1 that i clicked and need. also ive read on google forums that google voice drains battery alot as well. ima uninstall both for now and see what happens

Kind of lame that the same battery widget that reads in 1% increments on Android 1.5 reads in 10% increments on Android 2.01.

battery reading in 10% increments i thought was a consequence of the droid hardware, not android 2.0.1?

anyway, i disagree that it should immediately go to 90%. Mine doesn't do this. I don't use Dolphin but I have seen threads here and on other forums that it is a battery hog. Have you checked the battery usage apps to see if you can find out what service or application is hogging your battery? What about uninstalling an app, one at a time, to see if it is an app doing it.

i always understood it as the battery reports 100% until it falls to 90% and then it will update to 90% and so on. So you actually always have less battery than reported (duh) due to the lack of granularity. School me if i'm wrong...

Download Battery Left - it's a really nice widget. Let it calibrate about a week or two until it's accurate. It tells you percentage left by single digit percentages and tells you time left on your battery until full discharge. Mine was constantly dropping from 100% to 90% in a matter of minutes also. This widget is pretty damn accurate.

It should stay 100% for a while. Mine doesn't drop to 90% right away, even if I'm using the phone right after I unplug it.

It's not hard to see what is using the most battery power, though...check that in the settings and you'll probably see your culprit app.

Nice find on Battery Left. Seems like a well written app. Now to see how accurate it is. As for Dolphin Browser, I find that xScope has been less of a battery drain and still provides pinch type zooming.

She was having more battery drain problem than me then i noticed she was leaving browser by hitting the back button until back to the home screen. If you hit dolphin icon again it goes to the website you were viewing instead of home page. I always hit menu-exit-exit and clear cache to get out of Dolphin every time and I haven't had the Dolphin drain syndrome. Just sayin....

yep I think that's it. If you don't close the browser there's a service running in the background that syncs your bookmarks and I'm assuming this causes the drain.

That may be the cause; however, I use Dolphin and just leave it running in the background and consistently get over 14 hours of battery life with fairly heavy usage all day (corp push email, gmail push, Google Voice every 5 minutes, text messages, phone calls, checking the market, Facebook, etc...). I do not see any issue with battery drain.

I get great battery life as well, easily over 14 hours, but I did something different today than usual I left the dolphin browser open this morning (i was at 100%) and after 7 hours and 30 minutes I'm down to 80% with minimal use. Usually I'll still be at 90%... I'm a little battery life obsessed so I generally check my battery often. Obviously I don't think the Dolphin browser is a big battery hog, but it does cause some extra drain because I don't think it ever goes idle while other browser do.
