Just a quick question...Ive downloaded the Kingsmod format all file and the Kings unleashed r5. I was going to use Rom manager to flash these. Since there are two files, do I flash the Kingsmod format all file first? After this I flash the Kings r5? I guess it will give me the choices to wipe my phone also, right? I'm very nervous about flashing them manually, Im not sure of the steps to do so. I believe I would need my laptop to flash manually and its in the shop...or am I wrong?? Thanks so much for the advice.:)

I dont like or suggest using rom manager really. Its a bit buggy and you are better off learning how to use recovery because what if you get into a situation and cant boot and all you have is recovery...better to be familiar with it.

So i would rather give you instruction to flash it manually if you are willing...??

No lap top necessary

Yes, I am very willing....I'd love to do it manually. If you have directions step by step, and I don't need my laptop, that would be great. :). I'm about to take my son to school, but when I get back I will follow them. Thanks so much for the help... :). That way if something goes wrong, I will feel more prepared. Thanks again.

Not a problem...

OK im gonna give super noob instructions LOL

Step 1 download rom to wherever you want on your sd card :) you probably have this covered

2) also if you want to use it, download kings format all (note: format all is not necessary we can do it manually and i always do, both actually, but its faster than doing it yourself, more on this in a moment)

3) If your rom will let you select reboot-recovery, if not there is an app for that :) (spare parts or quick boot i believe can handle this) or power off the phone, then power into hboot (hold vol down then while still holding that press and hold power till you get to hboot) and navigate to recovery from there by pressing volume down till recovery is selected then pressing volume (note dunno how famiiliar you are with hboot, it will run a scan first and find no image, no worries it wasnt supposed to)

4) This is recovery, learn it, love it :) (vol buttons nav, power selects) probably says clockwork mod something and is orange and black (WHAT VERSION DO YOU HAVE?)

4a) Newer versions of clockwork mod cannot flash some roms and mods due to a change in script, if you have a newer version just know it may not flash it, its ok we can remedy that easy just letting you know ahead of time.

4b) If you would like you can flash an alternate recovery, if you want to stick with clockwork go to rom manager and select flash alternate recovery and choose cw 2.6.0.1. If you are open to change I suggest Amon Ra 2.3 (less buggy in my opinion) note that clockwork back ups cannot be restored with amon ra and vice versa so if you have a lot of cw back ups you may not want to change. Also rom manger will be virtually useless with amon ra except for downloading mostly and you will do everything manually.

5) OK in recovery choose back up/restore and make a back up of your current set up!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT

6) OK still in recovery after the back up...we now want to wipe everything since you have a good back up we have no worries. Wipe boot, system, data, and cache, then/or choose flash zip from sd card and navigate to where you saved kings format all and flash it. Kings format all should wipe boot, system, data, and cache, just automated. I wipe everything 3 times... :D

7) OK phone is clean and ready for your new rom...select flash zip from sd card, find your kings unleashed rom you downloaded on your sd card and select to flash it

8)Flashed, reboot, enjoy :D

Notes: When flashing between roms you will want to wipe all of that. If you are restoring a back up it is not necessary though it certainly cant hurt to wipe all of that, at least if you are feeling lazy wipe cache. When updating to a newer version of your rom you can usually get by with wiping cache and dalvik cache (davlik cache wipe is located under advanced in cw, under wipe in amon ra) this way you dont lose all your data :). When flashing themes and mods and kernels wipe cache and dalvik first then flash...

If you have questions just ask :)

Ok, thanks for all the instructions. :). First it looks like I have clockword mod 3.0.0.5. When I got to flash alternate recovery it says Are you sure you want to flash an alternate recovery? Rom manager features will be made unavailable until you flash back to clockwork mod recovery. Do I need to worry about this? If not an issue, I click replace and select cw 2.6.0.1.
I'm running unrevoked now. In #3 you say, if your rom will let you, select reboot in recovery. where do I find the place to select reboot recovery?? Is that the same place as holding vol. down and power button?
Oh wait, I just checked , I have quick boot already. Do I use this to boot into recovery? When in recovery, after the back up, I'm to wipe boot, system, data and cache....(is this option in recovery and I just select each, one at a time? I'm not sure how to find the files of Kings....I know I found it on rom manager after I downloaded it..but how do I flash it from here?? Are you sorry that you offered to help yet? Lol I've almost got it, hang in there with me please...lol Once again thanks so much.

LOL yes i had to get out from in front of my tv to go to my computer to type this because i wasnt going to type this on my phone. Where the hell is the asus tablet i have been waiting on...

Way to be a pita :D j/k its no problem at all, its what i do for fun, yeah its kinda nerdy, whatever... :)

OK your questions...No its not a problem and I already warned you about that :) Rom manager wont be real useful with an alternate recovery but we dont like rom manager very much anyway do we? :D its too easy, buggy, and makes ya lazy haha. Side note it should still function with cw 2.6.0.1 anyhow just amon ra will make it not be able to perform all its functions.

You are running unrevoked now? HUH? im sure thats what you used to root but im not sure what you mean by this. If you just meant you rooted with that, OK dont elaborate.

#3 sometimes on roms with 4 way boot added you can select reboot and it will give you a recovery option, if not quickboot does the trick. OR you could always vol down + power to go to hboot then go to recovery from there...1000 ways to skin a cat and all.

Wiping boot, system, data, and cache are options in recovery and you do select them one by one (i think there is a submenu titled wipe to do this havent had cw in a long time), thats why people like kings or calkulins format all it wipes them all in one click. If you ever need to wipe dalvik cache in clockwork it is under the advanced menu and not under wipe, dont have any idea why its not with wipe...

Im not sure where rom manager puts the files, likely under rom manager folder on the sd card, search around in that folder OR download them from here (kings format all zip is under kings r4 if ya scroll down far enough)to your phone and it will go to downloads folder on sd card, OR download to pc hook up the phone and place on sd card somewhere you will remember, i create a roms folder with like 7 roms in there i intend to flash when im bored to test lol

OK hopefully I got it all...i'll be around...happy flashing :)

Last question for now...do I have to flash a alternate recovery??? What happens if I try to use the one I have on clockwork 3.0.0.5.?? Will I brick my phone or will the flash of kings just not take and my phone will be the same. will I get an error and be up all night? lol

It's difficult to brick your phone really, generally happens when you are messing with radios and hboot.

If it fails it will just throw out a script error and you will have to restore your back up (because you wiped everything) then change recovery and try again.

I'm not saying it will fail I just don't know if it is the right script, it's 50/50. Restoring a back up takes like a minute...please don't forget to back up though

Ok, so I need to flash Amon 2.3. Make sure I get this right, I can click on the Amon link.2.3 with my evo right? At some point it will ask me to name the file and I name it exactly what you said. Im not sure (once I flash this file) how do I put it at the top of the root on my sd card....? or will it go where its supposed to? lol. Can I just do a back up in recovery ? Is there a place there that will give me the option to wipe everything I'm supposed to wipe? Forgive me, I used rom manager before. I know if I do it manually one time, I will get the ,whole process. I'm nervous cause if I have a major screw up, my laptops in the shop. Thanks so much :)

Whoa whoa...

3.0.0.5 will flash the rom you want. We suggest you change, you don't have to.

You should be able to flash amon ra using rom manager...is it not an option when you select alternate recovery anymore?

Sounds like you got it. Reboot to recovery and it should say on the bottom RA Supersonic v2.3 or something similar to that. The writing should be in green.

don't worry doing a nadroid backup will not brick your phone. it is super duper hard to brick it unless you actually throw a brick at it:D a nandroid back up should take a few minutes or so.

edit: oops, should of hit refresh. but yeah select wipe and then select boot, system, data, cache and dalvik cache. and yeah use the power button to make selections.
