Alarm clock not working on Eris

My alarm has been hit or miss as well... No real reason for it that I can see.

I have 4 alarms set in the morning to wake me up. All 4 go off every morning with out issue. Each is more annoying than the previous.

I am a heavy sleeper and I somehow have mastered shutting off the alarm in my sleep.

I have the same issue, and have done the same thing, however my alarm seems to force close after the 2nd or 3rd one sometimes (this morning it was after the 2nd). Do you use the stock sounds, or custom mp3s? My first two are stock, and the second two are mp3s, so I wonder if that could be the issue... Never thought about that. Regardless, it shouldn't be an issue though since it is an option...

Also when it force closed, it left my trackball blinking rapidly and it wouldn't stop no matter what I tried. I ended up restarting the phone, losing my "snoozes" and being irritated

I have never had so many problems with a simple alarm clock before

Sure.

1. Goto the alarms section.
2. Put a green check on the one you want to delete.
3. Press the menu button.
4. Select delete.

It will delete the ones that are checked.

I never thought to enable the alarm that I was trying to delete. It it may or may not be counter intuitive, but the thought never occurred to me that it would have to be active in order to delete it...

I set an alarm today around 9:00 am for 1pm. The alarm time really was 1pm, I checked twice. When I set the alarm, I immediately changed the volume per instructions. However, at 1pm it did not produce the snooze shound that I had requested.

Interestingly, I had this same procedure work for me yesterday.

Yesterday, I raised the alarm to full blast. Because it was full today, I lowered it slightly then raised it back up.

I don't know if this has anything to do with why the alarm didn't ring.

And I missed the first 15 minutes of the meeting. Luckily, I could blame it on the phone...

Actually, when my alarm sounded yesterday, like it was supposed to, the phone was on.

Is there a configuration somewhere that tells it to alarm even after the phone has gone into power saver mode? It was definitely in power saver mode when it didn't ring today...

I just checked and my task killer does kill it.

I'll make sure that it doesn't and see if the alarm works after that.

The odd thing is that Alarm Clock says that it is running, and that the alarm is ready to go off... I tested it after I killed everything and it seemed to recreate the problem...

Try moving your Alarm Clock over you the Ignored List within your task killer. See if that fixes your issues.

My alarm clock does not even show up in the list of tasks to kill. I have tested various combinations of setting the alarm, killing tasks, checking if the alarm is still set, etc... That doesn't seem to affect it at all (at least for me).

Also, it's usually the very last thing I do when I go to bed... I set the alarms, I get the on-screen confirmation that says it is set for blah-blah-blah hours from now, I plug the phone in, and I go to sleep. I have no idea why my alarm force-closes every other day or so

There is nothing wrong with the alarm clock. Mine works great. Please read the manual.

I finally found the "manual" on the motorol web site -- but all it is is a 54 page pdf file which does not say anything about changing the volume after you set the alarm.

Is someone aware of another longer manual? If so, please post a link.

buy an alarm clock. i totally understand the whole "i bought this and this is a feature and we should be able to use it" but seriously, you can get an alarm clock for like 5 bucks, and save a lot of aggravation.

You may have gotten the wrong manual. The phone is made by HTC, not Motorola

Someone posted a few post up tp add your alarm clock to the ignore list of ATK. This will keep your alarm clock running and should work consistently from there.

Yes I know this but is the only manual I have been able to find. assuming you call the brief introduction to the top level features a "manual". Sadly, that is what motorola called it.

Support a verizon.com doesn't seem to provide one and their search capability is even worse than this site...

If you're a google calendar user and your text message notification is working, you can have the calendar text you when its time for your meeting, or whatever amount before the meeting you like

that was mostly addressed to those using it as a alarm clock for waking up. if that is your situation and your native app doesnt work well that sucks.

i have 1 reminder set to go off every thursday at 9am to remind me to do my time sheets and it works without fail.

Right thanks. Now that I know that you have to set your volume, whether it needs it or not, I'm cool with the alarm feature. All I need is to know the algorithm. While it is annoying that seemingly extraneous steps are required, that doesn't mean that the thing is broken... Just annoying...

To repeat what I said earlier, I really like my eris as a generalized internet portal and tool. The only thing I currently have a problem with is that the call and end call buttons occupy the exact same pixels on the screen. If they could just split the two buttons into widely separated locations, I suspect that this would solve most of my problems.

Yeah, me too! Caddyman was really helpful and other comments I read in the thread were helpful too. Much more helpful than the verizon site. I pick on them because I got my phone from them.

In case you want a different way of deleting alarms, here's another one (no need to enable the alarm first). In the clock app, go to the Alarm section, then:

Menu key
Delete
tap grayed out X (turns to red X)
(can do several alarms)
Delete (again)

That deletes the alarms with the red X's.

I had this problem too. I registered because so many people have had this problem and the answer is simple and I wanted to share it.

Go into your clock, click on the alarm you're setting.

Then, click on "Alarm Sound." Choose your sound, AND be sure to hit the volume up rocker on the side of your phone. For some reason, the alarm is either initially set at silent, or it gets turned down to silent when you silence your phone.

Either way, make sure your alarm sound is up at an audible level so that you can hear it.

Actually, when I said the manual was useful, I meant it taught me a lot about the phone, but not a lot about the alarm. To the person who said you could adjust the volume of the alarm when setting the alarm sound type, how did you know that? It's not in the manual. Do you know of another manual? I called both Verizon & HTC & no one knew about that.

I've experimented & found if I put the phone on silent or on vibrate, the alarm still sounds. After about a week, it breaks (the alarm is activated at the correct time, but no sound). After the first time, I had to do a Master Reset (a big pain, since you lose all the apps you installed). The second time, it just so happens they sent out an upgrade to the OS & somehow that fixed the problem.

But I didn't know at that time how to set the alarm volume. It's very easy to accidentally push the volume buttons, so maybe I accidentally pushed the alarm buttons to make it go to silent. It's hard to believe I did that, since it would show on the display, but I can't say for sure. I'll have to keep an eye on it & see how it goes in the future.
