SMSChomp and Sprint Hero SMS

So I finally decided to switch to SMSChomp over Sprint Hero's SMS ...

my question is, how do I turn off the hero's sms from sending me messages...

because I get messages both on SMSChomp & Hero's SMS ...

it's kind of annoying though, I just want one app to be able to receive all my messages, so how do i do that?

Go into ur stock messages app, push menu ~> settings ~> uncheck "auto-retrieve" and "notifications". Done!!!

I actually had to launch the stock sms ap and go into the settings from there to turn off the notifications for it. I have had my Hero since Oct. 09. I started using Chomp within weeks of getting it, and love it.

Just as an FYI, the chomp and handcent both pull their messages from the stock app.

You are kind of vague, if you are talking about the message notifications, that is one thing that needs to be disabled per application.

But I think you are talking about actually seeing the messages in the stock messenger as well as in chomp. That is normal.

You will get messages in both places. They are the same message. If you install handcent and chompsms you will see your messages in all three applications.

That are different interfaces to the same data. If you kill your stock messenger (through some task killer) none of them will function.

the messages are still going to come through the stock sms app, you just need to shut the notifications off in the stock app.

Messages will come in on both CHOMP and the Stock app. Its normal..... LOL. I know i know, i just had to say it again.

If I use Handcent SMS and turn off only my notifications on the stock messenger only, leave my "auto-retrieve" in the enabled position, I will not see two of the same notification on the Notification bar, 1 from the stock app and one from Handcent SMS. Is this a correct assumption?

you don't need the "auto-retrieve" option on in the stock app

Thanks you all! I solved this problem a while back ago and that's why I left this thread alone LOL..

I'm now using Handcent over SMSChomp ....

Were you not satisfied with Chomp? I was about to install chomp and noticed this thread and your comment of switching.

Handcent had a little more options to offer IMO....but Chomp still a good SMS app though..

its all personal opinion! i like them both, handcent has a little more options but chomp is prettier to look at!

Tried both but I also prefer Handcent SMS just because it has more features than Chomp. Both are very good apps and worthy of use.Boils down to personal preference!

i dont own the hero yet, but i want it. i send and receive over 15,000 text a month. i know the phone had major texting issues when it was released, have they been resolved? i know the MR fixed some of the memory problems. is sending and receiving texts reliable now?

Yes it pretty much comes down to personal preference, and I still think Handcent blows out SMSChomp off the chart..lol

Txting issues? I have had my Hero for about a month. I send numerious txt's each day for work. Not 1 complaint.

i deleted all third party sms apps, so just the stock app is running. but still getting 2 notifications in the top bar..
