Root How to root 2.2

Is there an easy way to root my 2.2 intercept? I found some ways to root but it involved replacing the kernal.

I tried z4root...nothing
Tried two applactions that run from Windows and they said they worked but when I tried to launch barnacle it didnt work

i just switched to an inntercept from vm. i just got the 2.2.2 update. my pc dont recognize the device if usb debug is on. what is wrong. please help. ty in advance.

It sounds silly, but you need a better cable. I have the original from samsung, an LG, and Blackberry cable, but the only one that lets me do anything other than charge is the Blackberry.

What country are the developers of these ROMS working in and why do they do all this work for free? I'm always a bit Leary of freebies because of the old adage, "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts".
Just curious. Mostly humorous, so no offense intended.
Besides, the ROMS etc are all open source so anyone can clearly see all the code, right?
These are basically incredibly smart guys who like doing this and don't mind helping I assume?
