Root Coby Kyros MID 7015

I just got this tablet & am afraid to do anything to wreck it! Before I try, I'd appreciate anyone's opinion of why I should root it & is it worth it??

I think these units are a good deal (then again, it's no iPad). Bought one of these and I think they are pretty good for the money paid on amazon. I also purchased a good sleeve case.

Not likely. It would interfere with the wifi signal. I say a semi hard polyethylene case for sale on Amazon.com

Its actually quite easy to root this unit, but as always mentioned, be careful, the risk is your own. If you look around you can find some helpful guides, or just message me and I'll send you the links. I got mine yesterday and rooted it in half an hour. My only issue is since its Coby, we really aren't seeing many ROMS right now, which sucks because we're for the moment stuck with 2.1.

If you do a search for your model coby and ROM you will several different roms from performance roms (no frills but alot of get up and go) to replicas and patches of even honeycomb stuff (check it out it looks cool) but do your home work.. rooting this thing is easy but messing things up is just as easy.. if the instructions seem to difficult for you maby you should find an easyer rom, some help, or even just send it to a pro and let them hook you up.... ALL ROOTING HAS ITS RISKS but for me the benifits far far far out weigh them. My stuff runs the way i want it to and i get more out of it. (Just swaped my wifes coby mid7015 to watery 1.1 she has way more access the the things she wants and the way she wants them) i have messed up two roots now, i had to find help. Dont forget to back up your stuff!

There's a lot of discussion about such things in the Devour section of the forums, however the main problems with that are the locked bootloader and requiring of signed update.zips. In other words: unless some sort of hack or exploit is found for all Motorola phones with locked bootloaders, we're screwed. The Droid X has a workaround that conveniently only works on Froyo, I believe.

i have one and it's a great tablet. the only problems are:

1. seriously weak wifi (but i hear that about all Android-running gadgets)
2. lock up (hard freeze or lost touchscreen feature) on the standby screen or after you put it into standby

3. some apps just don't install. even those which should say 'application not installed'
4. no Android Market (Appslib doesn't even have Pandora, lame!)
5. no ability to download from websites. it blocks them and displays the 'page not available' screen if you try and download a file for Android apps. it will ONLY install from an SD card or from appslib.

6. that cool clock/weather widget seen on Verizon Droid is not available for this tablet or from appslib

Some tips:

1. remove the leather or fake leather case and toss it. the device locks up often when using it. i think it overheats or something. it also blocks the reset button which you will need--and often!

2. ALWAYS 'shut down' (hold the power button until the menu says 'shut down') and power it off. it locks up almost perfectly if it stays in stand-by for long. while playing a song it just loses the touchscreen

3. don't believe the battery gauge. mine goes from full to almost 1/4 and fluctuates. trust me you got over 8 hours of use even if you never power off the screen. i left mine alone downloading music and forgot about it, and it was still going.

EDIT: these limitations are of a un-rooted tablet straight out of the box. i have not tested a rooted device and won't be able to post any information on any benefits of a rooted tablet until i have done it myself

the wifes kryos is running "watery" and has a fully functioning market app.. she gets whatever app she wants.

mine isn't rooted, at least not yet. i am currently getting things together to do that and if it works out i will repost the link but it was found here in the forums somewhere. i hope that fixes some of the limits to this device, similar to the gains of jailbreaking an iPhone (which is easy too)

I've bought Coby few days ago. There are no MicroSD on it, I use only it's personal memory.
First of all I can't setup Wi-Fi settings, but the worst thing that I can't find files
in personal files I connect Coby to my PC, Can create new folder, and copy some fies there to install them from Coby.
But unfortunately I can't find those files.

Please, Help me to install files without using MicroSD and wi-fi.
