Why won't it play wma files?

Try downloading Winamp from the market and see if that plays your files

So, my hero, rooted and all (see sig, below) used to play wmv files through the default music player. Now, it says "this player does not support this type of audio file." Tried downloading 3, and ran into other problems.

Any clues?

Okay, well, PowerAMP was able to 'see' and play all of my .wma files, just fine. Unfortunately, it can't be bothered to see the mp3s purchased from amazon.com.

(NOTE: I just figured out how to add amazon mp3s from settings! Hooray!)

Between the native music player and PowerAMP, I've got it covered, I guess.

This is still a mystery, as the problem simply presented with no warning.

I thank you both, very much, DonB & LBPHeretic!
I appreciate it!

That was the confusion, your title said why won't it play WMA files, but your thread said it use to play WMV files, so I was not sure if it was a typo, no biggie, glad you got it working for now

No, I found out how to add files in settings! It's working fine, except I can't make ringtones out of my precious .wma files!
But, that's for me to whine at PowerAMP about, my esteemed and helpful comrade!

Thanks, again!

Hahaha. I found that setting too, but did not have time to check back here until just now.

I am glad that it all works for you. Yes, for ringtones you will need to convert them to .mp3 files. I use Ringdroid. It works quite well.

I just downloaded Poweramp and while it plays both types of files, I can't seem to figure out how to put them on the same playlist, so if I wanted to have a playlist with all my music on it, no go. I'm starting to think I'm going to have to re-rip all my .wma files from my CDs as .mp3 files. Am I wrong?

I bought a ZTE V9 with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and was shocked to find I couldn't play the entire .wma library I sync'ed from the desktop with Media Player. So I downloaded the free PowerAmp trial version from Android Market and it's a gem. I'll probably shell out the $5 for the full version when the trial expires in a few weeks...

It is nice to see that the information provided helped someone else out too. Thank you for posting your experiences here.

I hope the paid version works out for you too. Enjoy.
