Root how can I put Android 2.3 on LG Optimums V ?

LG has indicated they will do a Gingerbread release for the Optimus line. When there will be an official version from VM is anyone's guess, but will be months away, at best. There is a big development thread for Gingerbread on the Optimus S at Android Central and I expect the V will not be far behind once the S is ready...some people there are already working on Gingerbread for the V, and I expect you'll see some people here doing the same shortly as well.

Anyone have any idea how to update the Android 2.2 software to 2.3 on the Virgin Mobile LG Optimums Android Phone? Let me know! :D

Also searching around I have read that they will allow the update to the Optimums Line in the future. Anyone know when this will be available?
oh, yeah.
look here
after a little thrashing around and teeth-gnashing finding info on getting a root prompt through adb (watch the phone screen while requesting su through adb to tell superuser app to allow it root or adb says denied) I got the rom installed...
haven't played with it much yet but the specs say everything but incoming MMS works.
looks good to me so far!

And, thanks to everyone for the rooting info. I had to mix-and-match methods to find what worked for me, but it's done and I'm on gingerbread with my optimus v.

If you can post details on what worked...I'm sure people would like to see them, as well as any improvements (or otherwise) with Gingerbread.

Holy misleading title, Batman!

I agree with that!!!!
Anyways I wanted to say that yesturday I tested out the cyanogen port for the optimus s on my phone (I have a optimus v) I tested things out and everything works pretty well only thing is it's kinda slow.

I haven't tested out the optimus v aosp rom yet but I just got rid of my hero and I know that aosp mod does do some good work and I'm gonna try it out tommorow.

HERE'S a link to the changelog. It's looking good so far.

Works well for me. I've been running the ROM for a few days over clocked at 806Mhz. The phone is fast, smooth and stable for me. I had a 3G drop out issue when using profiles with SetCPU. There are also some bugs (headset, power off charging) all mentioned in the xda thread.

If you know what you are doing I think it is a worthwhile upgrade. I have a Nexus 1 that I just upgraded to Stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread and Ithink CM7 based ROMS are a bit more easy to use and tricked out.

I just followed the directions on that thread, and it worked first try.

I'm now trying out http://forum.androidcentral.com/optimus-v/62730-zefies-cm7-optimus-v-current-02232011-a.htmlhttp://forum.androidcentral.com/640923-post1.html
since I'm kind of looking at everything available. Again, just followed the direction in the first post. Except...
As a side note, I used the wipe>wipe ALL userdata in recovery before anything else while attempting the second flashing of this ROM, since the first attempt locked up during the cyanogen boot animation without a full wipe first. Worked fine after that additional step added for the second try.

Be thankful people are even making "beta garbage", with out them we would be stuck with VM Stock garbage.

I am plenty happy with VM i just rooted my phone to free up space,i refuse to put Roms on a phone not intended for it and run the risk of damaging the phone, and yes any rom that causes issues with the phone is beta garbage.i pid for a fully working phone, and that is what i have.

I hope you donate once bluetooth is working, and pay for all the hard work everyone else has done via donating their time and effort.

The idea of using a custom ROM during beta or alpha stages (and aospCM7 is considered alpha), is to test it out, report issues to the dev, and help make it better. That's the price you pay for a free ROM that is magnitudes better than the STOCK GARBAGE!

I would gladly pay for a 100% working Rom.not something that Fs the phone up,what get's me is VM offers a great deal on the service, and the abuse will ruin it before long, idiots bricking phones and getting it warrentied, tethering the phone to get home internet, these thing will put a stop to unlimited data, and low cost android phones.and do not even defend these actions.

Heh, I knew what I'd be getting into with $25/mo. cell service. I wasn't too surprised when the network got swamped, then had to play the airplane mode on/off game to get data back, then the "restart my month" game whenever my phone quits working at the end of the month.

Before finding this out from the forums I had tried calling Virgin, who in their infinite wisdom just told me to take the battery out and try again later.

With such stellar support, I won't be holding my breath for an official 2.3 upgrade. The AOSPCMod is outstanding.

People keep saying this Rom is outstanding in what way, someone should have come up with a truthful pros and cons list, all i hear about it is this does not work but i do not care i do not use it anyway, and i m pretty sure VM will introduce more Android phones,i am more then willing to wait for a new phone which will most likely have 2.3 on it,and everything will work 100%.,i am not knocking anyone who does put custom Roms on their phones, but at least say something other then i can overlock the CPU as a pro.
