Be careful buying car mount - tricky pricing...

So I am off to get the vehicle mount.
I called VZW store and asked them to hold one so I could get my VIP discount. I asked, to make sure, it had the car charger as well and they said NO - but a car charger separate is $30
Best Buy has them WITH the charger for $40 and Amazon has them with free shipping for $30, so I am going to see if BB will price match.

PN for BB store is 89396N - which is the same PN at Amazon.com

SHADY is all I have to say. That's why I am getting the vehicle kit - it would be nice to have the mount, but it also comes with charger so I kill two birds with one stone.

None of the official Droid mounts work with a case. You'll need one of those grab the sides of the device type of mount if you want to use a case.

Yeah, going to the actual VZW store is no longer an option for me. In fact, why would anyone want to go to a VZW store anymore. From my experience, service is slow, they don't price match, they don't provide instant rebates, their prices on phones unless it's a promo is much higher than online retailers or non VZW stores. I got my droid at BB for a lot less since they price matched the dell mobility site.

I purchased one of those long-neck universal car mounts today from verizon for $15, works ok, but it shakes around alot when driving, thinking about returning it. Anyone have recommendations on mounts to use for Droids with a cover on it?

This one is nice because it comes with a tacky disc that 3M's to the dash so you can suction the mount to the dash if you prefer.
There is a magnet in it too that sets the droid to car mode automatically, which is pretty nice.

My whole issue was the car charger coming with it. It's like I walked into VZW and bought a Motorola charger for $30 and stole a mount - by going to Best Buy.

I have had BB match Amazon before on an ipod a few years ago too. Just dress poor

PS - "bigdroid" - I have a vent mount right now and because the phone is on the hefty side and because the charger plugs into the side, I don't see it lasting there very long without pulling out at one point. I'd rather not risk this phone dropping.

I do think it's deceiving that some mounts come with the charger and others do not (mine did not), especially when both are "official" versions. OK if the price changes but not the product.

well i wa at a vzn store and saw they had a bundle sale on accessories. got a car charger , multimedia stand , and car mount for 49.99 . you should check on if the sale is still running.

LOL - I dont know if i should mention this, but I was surprised that the Universal PDA Holder - Windshield Mount works fine for me and even more surprised that it really does stick to my windshield when I found a flat enuf space.

Plus i got it as part of a bundle - but they also sell them for about $5 !! On ebay - For Motorola Droid A855 Windshield Car Mount Holder - eBay (item 390132550212 end time Jan-16-10 03:39:14 PST)

Has clips for vents if desired - noisy when the droid is NOT in holder - but we put a rubber band around it to stop rattle.

Recall there are several company on ebay with inexpensive prices. Just took long time for free shipping

I like how the Moto mount has the magnet to throw it into car mode right away.

I really like that car mount and hate that it doesn't work with a cover on your phone. I don't understand why they wouldn't think to come out with one that is compatible with covers on. One of the first things people do when they get their phone is put a cover on it...

Good conjecture. Motorola could create a mount that fits with the cover on and adjust the size of the magnet to work through a cover or just rid the magnet from the cover compatible mount altogether....

I'm not trying to be an arse, it's just that, unless*all* covers are almost the exact same witdh / use the same material that has the same density / have nearly the exact same magnetic field ... disruptive properties (I don't know the term here, so I am trying to describe it) / etc. one mount simply cannot do it all. Way too many variables to factor in. however, without a cover, most of the variables are nullified.

hence why both the car mount and the MMDock don't allow the rear part of the phone to have a cover on.

Again, conjecture, but it still makes perfect sense to me.

Ya, I understand what you're saying, there are a lot of brands that make covers...I guess all I can do is hope that eventually one of the companies will try to come out with a mount that is compatible with their own case.

That would be ideal, or, better yet, all the cover manufacturers contract with the mount maker to manufacture mounts for their specific covers....
