Incredible S vs Galaxy S!

I want to get a new phone,(still with a tytn 2 )
and I can't pick between the Incredible S and Galaxy S!

Incredible S-

Galaxy S-

+Proven to be an amazing device(Incredible S relatively new)
+Ability to be rooted (After warranty period )

I'll vote for Incredible S, because it fits more to your criteria.

Durability (Few years of use) - IS is from 2011 and has a better build quality than SGS.
Speed (Games) - SGS has a better GPU, but IS is not that much behind.
Stability - I hear more issues on SGS than on IS
Awesomeness - Classic HTC with Sense UI (personal perference).

hmm, tricky tricky tricky. the SGS is a better phone hardware wise. but the software is junk without rooting, and the build quality is a step down in my opinion. also there are a bunch of apps out there that have trouble running on the galaxy S devices, which sucks

im hoping i can provide you with a pretty good opinion, considering i've had the original incredible and the samsung galaxy s (fascinate)

the inc. was an awesome phone, and after having a couple HTC phones (running on sense UI) i don't think i will find a user interface i like better.

i like the look of touchwiz (galaxy s UI) a little more than sense but it was horribly laggy (not as much after rooting) and full of little bugs. My galaxy S has had multiple hardware and signal issues that have driven me crazy, before and after rooting it. also the build quality (specifically the battery cover) is significantly lesser on the galaxy S.

There are also a few things about the placement certain things (screen lock, charging port) on the GS i don't care for either. Overall, i thought (notice this was MY OPINION, not stating a "fact") that the incredible was a much better phone. This doesn't go for everyone, as many people love the fascinate, just as there are people who hated the incredible. One thing about samsung that IS a fact is how horrible their software update timing is. The fascinate just got 2.2 a few weeks ago. about 4 months after the LG ALLY for christ sakes... what a joke!

Notice ive mostly reviewed the galaxy s and only the UI of sense, because i've never had the Incredible S, therefore I'm unable to provide an honest opinion of it. I can, however, tell you that HTC Sense is awesome IMO and HTC seems to make phones with fantastic build quality. I LOVED that incredible, and if i would've known i would have this many problems with my fascinate I never would have gotten rid of it.

I would take Galaxy S every time, better screen, better GPU so will handle current and future games better, also in that regard it's more future proof imo, it will basically be supported as long as the iPhone 4 is supported as they share simalar hardware, so support will always be good.

Also the standard video/music player is better on the Galaxy S, supports allot more formats,

I do love sense aswell
Scenes,classic look,overall beauty of it all!
I considered getting the galaxy s,rooting it in a year and installing sense.
And if you preferred the original Incredible over the SGS,the sequel should be better!
Leaning towards the Incredible now.
Build quality seems to be better on the incredible too.

Coming from a Tytn2,i messed with it quite a bit,roms,tried android on it.And found android amazing!

Since you have used both,is there much of a difference b/w SAMOLED and SLCD?

the screen was actually the reason i got the fascinate in the first place. it's not insanely better, but definitely noticeable. that and i wanted a bigger screen.

The former earns a much higher score on the cpu front,will this affect productivity tasks by much?

Make sure you use the Galaxy S to read text before buying one. The Pentile screen makes text on high contrast backgrounds look fuzzy.

Just compare how many Galaxy S were sold and how many Incredible were sold should give you some hint on which one is more preferable by the general public.

And frankly, if you have not bought a phone yet, you should not be comparing the new Incredible S with the old Galaxy S. Instead, you should be comparing the Galaxy S II which is coming out in a few weeks. That phone will beat any other phone.

Nope, quadrant is a pointless benchmark.

But the interface on the Incredible will be smoother out of the box, the Galaxy S scores poorly in quadrant due to Samsungs file system which sucks, but is not as bad as quadrant suggests.

Easy enough to fix, just root the phone and apply a lagfix and you will be scoring 1600+ again.

It's an easy enough process and people here will help walk you through it if you buy one.

That clock is a widget. Like any other widget, it can be customized or removed as needed.

In certain areas.

Please note the CPU of the Incredible S isn't **much** faster than the Galaxy S, it is at best **slightly faster**. What drags the score down for the Galaxy S is that it has **much slower File I/O**.

If you take the same hardware as the Galaxy S, match it with a much faster file I/O system, then you get a much different result. I'm referring to the Nexus S. The hardware of the Galaxy S and the Nexus S is identical inside, but the Nexus S in my Quadrant scoring, can hit Quadrant in the range of 1700 to over 1800.

Which incidentally, is also the same range as phones equipped with the Qualcomm 8255 like the Droid Incredible 2 aka Incredible S do.

When the SGS gets the Gingerbread upgrade, it will fly as good or better as the Nexus S. It will get rid of the Samsung file system in favor of the Gingerbread file system, plus Samsung having additional optimizations on top of Gingerbread.

Yes well sort of, changes the file system from Samsungs RFS to ext4, same as what the Nexus S uses. some infrormation below.

I doubt it will effect lifespan, other phones use ext4, it was just a really poor choice by Samsung.

CPU performance? No, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, they are that close.

The Incredible does have more memory but the only applications that wiil use large amounts of memory are games, which will run faster on the Galaxy S anyway.

Depends on the task, but you are correct in that the difference won't be noticeable in most cases. However, in the few cases that are noticeable, the Incredible S wins.

While a chunk is always used, more memory is more memory. Keep in mind that the Galaxy S only has 384MB of system RAM, of which 320-304MB is usable. The original Incredible has 512MB, of which 440-480MB is usable. The Incredible 2/S has 768MB, of which over 700MB is usable.

For gaming, the Galaxy S wins, and the difference is appreciable if you are running truly high end games (IE, games running the Unreal engine, of which there are currently few. I'm only aware of one). For typical gaming, productivity, and phone use, the Incredible S is more future proof, but actual performance differences today are negligible between the two phones.
