HTC Droid Eris Data Plan Questions

So I was going to recently consider buying the HTC Droid Eris from Verizon and I know that there is some sort of Data Plan that is required. So my question is because there is probably a Data Plan needed, if I get the Plan with like Unlimited Data will I still have to pay for the Data Plan that is required for the phone

Unfortunately, with the Eris, you have to purchase the unlimited data for smartphone plan. VZW won't allow you to use a Connect plan.

AFAIK all the typical Verizon data plans are $30/m. My Blackberry data plan costs the same as my Eris one does.

As for the OP.

if I get the Plan with like Unlimited Data will I still have to pay for the Data Plan that is required for the phone

That sentence is kind of redundant. If you get the plan with unlimited data, you'll obviously be paying for the data plan that's required for the phone.

I'm actually not sure that's true, at least where I am, the droid has a special plan, 30$/month for unlimited data, much cheaper than a regular smartphone :)

That's what mine is too. I think all smartphones are $30.

The connect plan would be ideal because it includes unlimited messaging, but they require that separate smartphone plan.

yes... i had the bb tour and it was $30 a month for the unlimited smartphone plan also. but when i had my dare before the tour (fyi not a smartphone) i had the connect plan which is the unlimited plan for "dumd" phones ... so whenever i got my bb they put me on the select plan by default, idk why, and then put the smartphone plan on top of the select plan. i do no know if that is standard and goes for everyone or if it was just that rep that did it differently for some reason

That makes sense because you don't want to pay for a Connect Plan in addition to the $30 smartphone data plan.

Let verizon know where you work. A lot of companies have corporate discounts. Some unions or organizations also have discount plans. I get 13% off my bill and 25% off accessories. This drops the data plan down to 23.99'ish for me. So ask it can't hurt.

I just upgraded to the Eris 2 months ago from a regular verizon phone and plan. I get 19% off my bill, but I looked at my bill for last month and it takes the 19% off the voice plan, but no discount off the $30 data plan??
Anyone else experience that? Is that correct?

My company discount is 17% off the plan and 20% off "features" which is the data plan. Maybe because you get more off your plan you don't get the features discount? I would check with Verizon.. they can give you the details of your corporate discount.
