The learning curve is a little steep, but once you learn it ... it is THEE home-replacement app. Checkout the other Sweeter Home threads with pics to see what we're doing with this newly-released home-replacement app.

But I digress...

As I have experimented with MANY apps, and home-replacement apps ... I am constantly watching how much available memory I have remaining. I open Task Killer many times throughout the day to check this. For the record, I have approx. 140 apps installed at this time. This hasn't changed all that much over the passed few weeks. I usually have between 38-52M available memory. I really haven't seen it above the 52M mark in a long time. But late last night, I finally finished enough of Sweeter Home to switch over to it full time. When I opened Task Killer, I couldn't believe what I saw! I had 68M available memory! I've been watching it all morning, and it seems to vary between the mid 50s, to the low 70s. So it appears that Sweeter Home Preview 2 is somehow using approx. 20M less memory than Launcher, Home, or Home++ Beta. SWEEEET!!!

It definitely takes time. Some tips:

- I've had it crash on me while doing major editing on my theme, so until you finish your theme I suggest you keep your default home and use homeswitcher to load sweeter home. That way if you crash its easier to recover.

- Look at other themes for ideas, but make your own theme from scratch.

- Make sure you have a lot of time on your hands, because making a nice theme can take hours.

- The more flashy pics and widgets you add the more resource intensive it will be. Just because you CAN put everything on one screen doesn't mean you have to. Try to find a balance.

- Not too many people recognize this: You can have 10 screens each with unique content! Each of the 5 screens (left, right, center, top, bottom) has a portrait and landscape view.

Nice... is there a guide on how to use everything in it?

Not that I could find. I just finally decided that the app was worth the effort, and away I went. A couple days later of on & off editing and I am EXTREMELY happy with the results. No other home-replacement app can compare ... PERIOD. Not even close. I'm doing more with 3 screens using Sweeter Home, than I could dream of doing with SEVEN screens using Home++.

These three pics are just my single homescreen using Sweeter Home.

Joe do you mind me asking what rom you are using when seeing the 68MB free memory?

My "ROM of choice" is still humancycborg's last 2.1 ROM. FWIW, I just ran Task Killer and it read 80MB. This is sick!

I know it's off topic, but I have to say...
Yea ... :D ... I was up over 150, but cut back on a few lately. ;)

Back on topic, I have to say that this thread is the first to even interest me in a home screen replacement. Thanks for sharing.

I had Home++ for quite awhile, then with this 2.1 ROM came "Launcher" which has 5 screens and some cool features. But nothing can compete with Sweeter Home's flexibility. You just have to be prepared for the learning curve. If you like 1-click solutions, it's probably not for you.
