I'll be making the same switch very soon...just trolling eBay for the best deal on a Sprint Hero...also reading the forums to learn as much as possible before I get the phone!

Thanks again for the warm welcome everybody

i just grabbed an eris instead of spending money on a phone but i wanted the android OS and smooth touch. The eris is the hero only for verizon and slimmer. so i say go for it . ive had it for a day now and it makes me regret owning windows mobile phones . Can't wait for that 2.0/2,1? update!

I'll be making the same switch very soon...just trolling eBay for the best deal on a Sprint Hero...also reading the forums to learn as much as possible before I get the phone!

Made the switch this weekend - got a great offer from Sprint.
Had two problems, one of which has been resolved.

First let me say that I consider myself a very good data manager and have managed multiple migrations between old PDAs, phones, etc. and am very familiar with old Palm, WinMo, new Palm (WebOS), etc...that being said:

1. Moving over about 5800 calendar entries from WinMo to Google wasn't horrible (had to export from phone to Outlook then from Outlook to Excel CSV, then import from CSV to Google before activating the Hero). But getting the calendar entries from Google to my phone...well, THAT WAS AWFUL.

I'm not exactly sure how it happened. At first the calendar took only a month and a half worth of entries. Multiple setting changes/calendar refreshes/etc. seemed to make no difference. I tried synching my old phone to Exchange, then phone to Exchange...I was up until 4AM trying to figure it out. The worst part is that I ended up spamming co-workers with old meeting invitations from March to May of 2008 via Google - very embarrasing...and that I think was related to the Exchange sync. I deleted the Exchange sync.

Anyway, the entries ended up in there somehow. I don't know whether that's because of the m.google.com Exchange sync or if it just took Google until the next day to get the whole calendar done OTA...at this point I'm just grateful that it's done!

Contacts did their sync immediately - as soon as service was turned on.

2. The second problem was an unintended consequence of phone switching. My line wasn't yet eligible for the upgrade, so we used Spouse's eligiblity, then did an immediate ESN switch to add the Hero to my line. The problem? Spouse forgot his gmail account password. He never signed into the account - he used it only for contact and calendar sync on his Pre... so now we can't get at his contacts and calendar to add to his phone now that it's back on his line. Google won't reset the password. I can "see" his calendar on my calendar, but I can't sign in. So I may have to manually add all his entries or something. Ugh. But this was our fault for not remembering the password!

Otherwise I am very happy with the phone...

same here i had to use my girls line just to activate it then switch it over but had the google acount situated.

Glad to see everything is working well with the phone, except you tube. . . google . you tube. not sure how that happened. but other than that the only thing i can't figure out was how to sync everything so eff it , im just adding things in one at a time :/ and the omnia had better video capabilities. but the screen was no where near as sharp as the eris is. just wish there was a nice free divx player for android.
