when do you think we will get apps like iphone does!?

i really keep seeing sooo many, they just got grand theft auto china town wars... cool game and i am certain our droid can run it!

they also go the i am tpain app, yeah gimmicky but it would be a time waster.

plus many many more!

so when do you think droid and android period will get better apps and at the rat of iphone, or when will some devs make both apps, android and iphone?

at the same time its a living hell for me at times! slow updates and slow start up :) but yeah, i heard there were to be 150000 apps by the end of this year... i have to question though, how many more will be lightsaber and flashlight apps and how many will be cool fun apps that don't copy shit

I certainly don't know the answer to your question, but I did notice Lineup on the Market Friday night. That was one of my favorite iTouch games and now it's on the Market. Feels like a little bit of progress to me.

Now I realize it's not a 'gamers' game, but I did actually pay for it on the iTouch and it was free in the Market and it works exactly the same way.

As far as games go, the biggest thing holding development back is this...

Issue 1151 - android - RFE: Support install of apps on SD cards - Project Hosting on Google Code

The problem seems to be partly related to the developers, because while you may not be able to install an entire 300MB game on your internal storage, it's certainly possible to install the 5MB executable on the internal storage and store the remaining 295MB of data (sound, graphics, etc) on the SD card. This has already been done with GPS navigation apps. But, for some reason, game developers don't want to do it this way.

i just bought an itouch to satisfy that need.. the android market is nothing compared to apples. even the apps they share look and play a 100 times better than the droid versions

By all respects, the Droid should be capable of running rings around the iPhone.

The Droid's PowerVR SGX GPU is more capable than the iPhone's PowerVR MBX GPU.

The Droid's resolution (854x480) is much better than the iPhone's resolution (480x320).

The reason this hasn't happened yet is obviously that the first apps we received are those that have been ported directly from the iPhone or worse from the Sidekick. Once someone starts making real apps for Android, that actually use the hardware, the games should improve.

When there are more Android phones out there. The user base for iPhone is huge. That's why devs flock to it. Even a moderately successful app makes money. When more people have Android sets, we'll see more apps. I actually think we're on the verge of it now. The Droid certainly helped, and future Android phones will too.

The iPhone is also an easier platform to develop for right now. If they up the resolution of the screen (which I really think they have to do) we'll see if all 100k+ apps can scale. I suspect they won't, at least not without some sort of emulator. Android is more fragmented, but I don't know how much worse it is for devs. It seems like whenever a new phone comes out, apps get updated to work with it pretty fast if they don't already.

back in November 09 I was told by a Verizon rep that the Droid would have close to the same amount of apps as the iPhone if not more by the end of the year. Not sure if he meant end of 2009 or end of 2010. So only time will tell. A lot of these apps are made from the same developers to is what I am hearing and seeing.

If you look at the growth of the iPhone App Store and if you don't count the time that the first generation HTC handsets were available through T-Mobile (October 2008 - October 2009) then the Android Market is following a similar growth pattern to the iPhone App Store.

Looking at Wikipedia: App Store - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Android is somewhere in that January - March timeframe. Time will tell if Android's Market continues to grow as the iPhone's App Store has.

The market is certainly hurt by the fact that most of the high-end game developers (EA Mobile, Gameloft, Rockstar) are avoiding the platform until their concerns are addressed by Google.
