Root No Internet Access on Huawei Ascend

I have no Internet acces on my phone. Please help.

I have a Huawei Ascend smartphone (M860). I successfully rooted my phone by using Z4 Root. I then downloaded ROM Manager Version 4.2.02 from the Android Marketplace. Currently, it has ClockwordMod 3.0.0.5 Then, I downloaded CM7-Ascend-05142011.zip and the latest google apps file (gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip). Both files are on my SD card. Before upgrading my phone, I did a complete backup of my current ROM by using the ROM Manager. I rebooted my phone and went into Recovery. I wiped the data, cache, and Dalvik Cache. Finally, I installed CM7 and google apps. I rebooted the phone and wow!!!! I love CM7.

My phone works fine except that I don't have Internet Access. I love CM7 and I would hate to go back to my stock ROM. I checked the settings on the APN (I'm using Cricket) and everything looks fine. My phone shows the 3G symbol so I'm assuming that I have a data connection. I don't know what's wrong? Any suggestions??

APN Settings:

Name: Cricket
APN: wap.mycricket.com
Proxy: wap.mycricket.com

Password: cricket

PlayfulGod and BlastGT1 Thank you for your quick response. Data services is enabled. On the status bar, I see a "3G" symbol. Just to make sure, I went to settings, Wireless & networks, and Mobile Network Settings. There is a checkmark on Data Enabled. As mentioned, I see a "3G" symbol on the status bar. On the APNs, there is a green dot next to Cricket. The settings are as explained in my post. I did a wipe on system, boot, data, and cache before installing CM7. I don't know what else to do. Everything works except data services and mms. Like I said, I love CM7 and don't want to go back. Any other suggestions?

first try airplane mode, or either uncheck data and re check it, restart phone and test, if there's no progress, than you might have had a bad flash and suggest to reflash again, only takes 5 minutes to do everything, if you are with cricket Dont flash the metro off, and mms should be working without having to open apn, also might be your carrier that might be having issues, i know from exp from metro...

Nuttmeg. Thank you for your advice. I did some research on the Internet and on this forum, but couldn't find any solutions. I found out about people having the same problem, but they are on MetroPCS. The solution to their problem is flashing the Metro Off. As I mentioned, I'm not on MetroPCS. I'm in El Paso, TX. My carrier is Cricket. I went back to my stock ROM and everything works fine including Internet, data services, and mms. But when I flash CM7, Internet, data services, and mms stops working. I do see the 3G symbol on, so I don't know what's wrong. I tried turning off and on the phone and still doesn't work. I tried disabling and enabling the data services and still doesn't work. I don't know if it makes a difference but on my stock rom, the APN MNC settings is 016. For CM7, the APN MNC setting is 16. I tried changing it to 016, but it won't take it. I don't know if not having the zero makes a difference. To summarize:

Hello everyone. Thank you all for the advice, but nothing seems to work. I downloaded again CM7-Ascend-05142011.zip. Maybe I had a bad file. I wiped everything (system, boot, data, and cache) and reinstalled CM7. Still no data. I rebooted my phone a couple of times and nothing. I verified my APN settings and nothing. I downloaded CM7-Ascend-05212011.zip and again wiped everything (I previously had CM7-Ascend-05142011.zip. Maybe there is a bug so I was hoping that the latest version would work). Still no data. Everything works except data.
I installed Root Explorer on my phone so that I could edit the build.prop file but I couldn't find anything relevant except for the following line:
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=310016.

Is there anything else that I should try? To be honest, I'm getting frustrated and thinking of going back to stock.

Forgot to mention, I'm on Cricket. I found some solutions, but that's for MetroPCS users. I'm in El Paso, TX and using Cricket Wireless.

is your wifi on? cause if wifi is on, it cuts data off, but some members that had cricket also had this problem and some couldnt even load cm7, they was found to have a lazy ascend, but also every ascend is different, but dont give up hope...

This is a long-shot,but,check out your apps that are not part of the CM7 ROM.Hold off on installing GAPPS & do not restore any apps from previous builds/ROMS & start troubleshooting from there.I discovered recently that I had two possible apps or more interfering w/data AND my phone connection:

1) Any AD BLOCKING APPS.I'm a fan of these, but, was already running an app that had the option of AD BLOCKING built-in.I was running multi-AD BLOCKING apps & was experiencing SMS & MMS problems.Dropped down to one AD blocker & problem solved.

2) I loaded a 'PAID APP FOR FREE' that I picked up from AMAZON & finally decided to give it a try.It was called TRILLIAN & it totally FUBARED my data & phone signal.Immediately after dumping TRILLIAN,things returned to normal. That app was a total POS,essentially bricking the phone 'til I dumped it.

Also, might wanna try the *228 function, just to eliminate any possibilities while troubleshooting.

I hope this experience may help lead you to solving your data issues.NO ONE here wants to see you have to flash back to stock.GOOD LUCK!

Again, everybody thank you for all your suggestions. I haven't been able to get my phone to work but I do appreciate all of your advice. I haven't tried the *228 function. I will try that and see if it works. My wifi is off. I know that when wifi is on, sometimes it will cut the data service, so I have it off. When I installed CM7, I didn't reinstall my apps.
This is my first smartphone. I don't have much experience with smartphones; however, I am a computer/network engineer. I also do some programming, so I know about troubleshooting and debugging. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, this is my first smartphone so it is kicking my ass. Let me try *228 to see if that works. Again thank you everybody.

Hello everyone. Here's an update on my phone situation.
1. I downloaded again from the Internet CM7-Ascend-05142011.zip just to make sure that the file is not corrupt.
2. I rebooted my phone into recovery. I wiped everything (system, boot, data, and cache).
3. I installed the CM7 ROM. As recommended, I didn't installed GAPPS.
4. I rebooted my phone. Phone starts fine. I'm able to make and receive phone calls.
5. I went into the APN settings. Verified settings for Cricket. The settings are:
Name: Cricket
APN: wap.mycricket.com
Proxy: wap.mycricket.com
Port: 8080
Username: myphonenumber@mycricket.com
Password: cricket
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: not set
MMS Port: not set
MCC: 310
MNC: 16
Authentication Type: CHAP
APN Type: *
APN Protocol: IPv4
6. There is a green dot for the Cricket APN. It is the only APN that I have on my phone. It is the default APN and is active.
7. The status bar shows the 3G symbol with the up and down arrow (3G ↑↓)
8. When I open the built-in browser that came with CM7, I get an error that says Web Page not available. I tried various webpages such as MSN, Yahoo, Google. Again, it seems that my data service is not working. Wifi is off. If I turn it on, of course I'm able to browse the Internet. I have a wireless router at home. As per everybody's recommendation, I haven't installed any of my apps, so I know that nothing is interfering with my data service.

I do have an additional piece of information that might assist in the troubleshooting process. When I installed the stock ROM, I went to Settings, About Phone, Status. Under the Network, it says Cricket. When I install CM7, it is blank.

Hopefully this helps. Again thank you everybody for helping me out. As I said, I'm in love with CM7 and I really don't want to go back to Stock. I need data service because that's how I check my corporate e-mail, calendar, to-do list, etc.

Yes, I tried both versions. CM7-Ascend-05142011 and CM7-Ascend-05212011. No luck with data service.

Some CRICKET users have been experiencing unexplained 3G data issues lately.

As Ashleyh06 posted in another thread on the subject,it could be due to merged towers from CRICKET'S recent takeover of another regional carrier(POCKET).

A trip to a CORPORATE store to restore data service may be in order.

Hello,

I have recently become the new owner of a Huawei Ascend, and after having a long work week I have finally had some time this weekend to try to learn about my phone in general. While playing with my phone and trying to get it onto my wireless network I have run into a wall. I have turned on the Wi-Fi under settings, found my network, put in the passcode, and tell it to connect. However after authenticating the connection, the wi-fi immediately states disconnected and my network states disabled. My carrier is Metro PCS. I wasn't sure if I need to set up a static IP address or not. If so is there anything special to know when assigning a static IP? I'm a little geekier than the average gal and can learn tech related things fairly quickly so I'm hoping not to bother you guys too much right away. Anyhow thanks for your help. :)

*edit* So out of curiosity I checked the settings on my router, and it is set up to dynamically get the IP number from the ISP. I also made sure that I had enough channels open for access and still I could not get it to connect. Curiously though my phone did pick up a weak signal from a unsecure connection and was able to connect to that access point... so it does work just not on my network... man this is frustrating.

Okay is it weird to thank a user on this forum for advice they gave on a different site that ultimately helped me figure this out? If not thanks to BlastGT1 :D I'm not sure why this worked but I went into the wifi networks told the phone to forget my network and reconnected after that it obtained a new IP address and just like that I'm in. So if anyone else has this problem give it a try you never know if it will help or not.

I haven't had that problem with my Android phone, but I did have it with my Google TV. I wiped the WiFi settings on my device, unplugged it, unplugged my router, waited almost a minute, plugged my router back in, waited until it was up and running, and powered up my device. It's a common cure for Netflix problems on Google TV, too. Don't know if it would actually work for you, but it's sure worth a try. Sometimes the router likes to block what it considers 'suspicious activity' on certain channels, and rebooting everything is kind of a reset for it.

BTW, what happens if you turn off the security to your WiFi?

edit: lol You posted while I was posting. Gratz on your fix. And if you're feely geeky, check out the All Things Rooted subforum here. After you've had time to get a good feel for your Ascend and its capabilities, that's an excellent source for info on tips, tricks, and modding.

Okay can you please read this, before moving this thread to somewhere else
anyways, so i had a previous thread about this problem but i deleted it to make this new one, so here is what happened, so one day i had my phone in my pocket and i accedently jumped into the pool, so i quickly noticed that it was there and i got out, but the SD card was damaged but the phone wasn't, well it had water in it but i let it dry for two days, so once it dried i remembered i had a SD backup in my pc, so i brought i new sd card, (same amount of memory "8 GB") and moved those things into my new card, and i had ROM backups too, so i was kinda lucky. (p.s:i had the zips to, cm6 and cm7-the latest ones + the 6182011) So i flashed a new rom, cm6 and the rom worked perfectly except for one major thing, the wifi did not work whats-so-ever, when i try to turn it on, it gives me a error! so i flashed the cm7 zip and had the same problem, all was good except that. So i remembered my backup ROM's had it's wifi working, so i restored a backup that i %100 knew that wifi worked in that ROM before that event of the pool. So i restored it and rebooted, just like the others it worked perfectly except for the WIFI. i have no idea what is wrong with this. i can't get wifi to worked...I dont know what i missed, so can you guys please help me out on this problem?
-thanks in advance
(again please don't move this thread, i haven't found a problem in these threads like mines, only slitley similar, but a big difference also...
