Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Lot of faith to put in someone who was right last year, but just very recently predicted that the Evo 3D would be out before the holidays with 3.1 Ice Cream (after 3.1 was already established as the Honeycomb update number, something he apparently wanted to argue), among other things.

OTOH, the Evo 3D will be out before the holidays, a full 5 months before Thanksgiving in fact, so maybe's it's just me.

Could happen.

BTW - if you want to root, do it before the update. Then just go with the rooted update, per the All Things Root Evo subforum here.

What if you updated and now wish to root?

The only way for me to fix the the folder icons defaulting back to generic, as well as voice mail indicator issue was to turn off "Fast Boot" in the Applications menu. It's a real bummer when they give you a feature that is half ass useful.... (Useless?)

(Correction ... After re-booting phone, the Icons are back to generic again and Fast Boot has no affect. Damn!)

I also noticed a slick new(?) GPS Navagation program called TeleNav GPS Navigation is now included. I really like the way it gives you three or four mapped choices of the route, and you decide which one to take instead of forcing it to "Recalculate".

The GPS program was not part of the Gingerbread upgrade. You just happened to have it update simultaneously. I had my GPS updated OTA just under two weeks ago. It was formerly the Sprint GPS app. The functionality has now changed (for the better) and is now called TelNav.

Also with TelNav, you get the option of upgrading the base (free) GPS service to a pay-monthly service that includes useless crap like notifications of traffic video camera installations, speed traps, etc. Paying money per month to have a computer tell you "look out...the fuzz is watching you" is pretty stupid when you can simply stay with the free edition of TelNav and not break traffic laws in the first place.

...as for the other folks who have issues, try and use the "reboot" option on the power off list that pops up. also untick the fast boot option and see if that helps.

That is exactly what I did when after the upgrade, the WiFi icon was greyed out and would not connect to my Wireless N router. I pressed the power button and chose to "restart" and once it powered back on, it immediately connected to my router once again and haven't had a problem since.

yea the restart option is on that pop up list.

fast boot i think it's enabled as default? it was after i received the update. perhaps turning this off will help "correct" some other issues downstream. i have deactivated fast boot.

I just unticked the fast boot option under settings>Applications>Fast Boot.

The 'Restart' Option still is on the Power Button pop up box. Will see if it does reboot any slower without fast boot ticked.

Also, I had about 20 of my App shortcuts lose their icons, reverting to a generic Android green android guy with the appropriate text underneath. I trashed them and replaced them with fresh shortcuts, and all was well.

Weird. After this issue came back after a reboot, I left the generic icons in place. After a whole day of the generic icons in place, they all mysteriously disappeared and were replaced by the original icons.

To All,
Before everyone put in the upgrade, did you un-root your phone first. Some are saying let the upgrade plow the root and all you have to do is re-root. If so is there an new version of pc36img.zip and where it is located for download.

I used unrevokedforeverson and the pc36img.zip from another forum but i'm getting a earlier version error when reading the pc36img. The phone is current in the s-on and is currently rooting.

Thanks

Absolutely the worst advice ever and a recipe for disaster.

If you're rooted already, goto our All Things Root subforum and get instructions on how to get this same update rooted.

If you already followed that bad advice, you'll find several threads there that will help you.

Try something diffrent and be proactive and try to update as situation change. We have been working through the weekend with Netflix to put them on the hot seat and get streaming to EVO 4G. The EVO community is not happy and we are not happy. Unfortunately Netflix is not taking this as seriously as we would like. 2.3.4 is on hold until this can be resolved. EVO 4G is the most popular mobile device on the market today and we cannot risk bricking a phone. Netflix does not jump on board HTC is happy to 86 them and provide HTC watch free of charge on EVO 4G. Hope Netflix is listenig. Were taking this seriously. If this can resolved shortly then we can expect.2.3.4 on June 9th. Right now were doing everything we can to work with them together.

Again as stated before go to Settings > Call > Clear Voicemail Notification to fix this.

This works initially, but when powered down or restarted, the voicemail icon appears again, also a message on the lock screen, stating you have a voicemail. I thought once I cleared the icon, that was it...But, nope! Something is not right. Also, last evening, I looked at my phone and I said I have four voicemails,,,,when I checked,,,I had zero. Very weird.....

I use only get 12 hours on froyo now I'm getting almost a full day 23 hours sometimes 24 with moderate use

Yeah the first night after updating mine, I charged it to 92%, took it off the charger and went to bed when I woke up in the morning it was still at 92% on the stock battery icon and the app I use. I thought there has to be something wrong so I restarted the phone completely not just power off. When it loaded back up it said my battery was at 93%. One thing I did noticed though is that i seems to use power faster when using it than before. Now when I check battery it always says that display is using the most power when it was usually at the bottom before.

i got the same problem, did you ever find a fix?

atistang,

No, I followed the process for clearing the voicemail icon. "menu,,,,settings,,,,call,,,,,clear voicemail notification. But, if you reboot your Evo, the Voicemail icon will appear in the notification bar again. Matter of fact,,,yesterday, all of a sudden my Evo read I had 4 voicemails. I checked and had 0. Very strange..LOL
