Help Alltel 2.2 Android Update?

Okay, yesterday I went to Alltel (my carrier) and I bought the HTC Desire yesterday and noticed that it only had the 2.1 Android software. Right before, I was at Verizon and saw that their Androids were 2.2 Froyo. Once I got my HTC, I knew there was a 2.2 out but when I went to see if there were any software updates for the phone via OTA it said there was none. Does anybody know when the release for 2.2 via OTA will be available? I don't want to do it manually or root it because it would void my warranty and I don't know if I'd be able to replace it if I ever mess it up doing something else.

PLEASE?! Anybody have any other suggestions or advice. THANKS!

If there isn't an official release, there isn't an official release. The only advice we can give is to root if you need it now, or wait it out if you want to remain stock. Alltel is pretty tiny, so I don't imagine they prioritize updates very much. I do believe they are owned by Sprint though, so maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I know this one store has the update now but it is way out of my area :(

Alltel, Mount Pleasant MI 48858 -- MerchantCircle.com

Being so far south, how did you come of this information?

I live in Mt. Pleasant. I would like to see about updating to 2.2. But, my phone is rooted, but still branded with Alltel, so wonder if they would do it?

Do you just go in and ask them to update it to 2.2?

Thanks

I'm not sure with you being rooted but they will definitely update your phone if you take it in to them. I found out about it through another forum and I also called the store up to get information and find out why my particular store wasn't releasing it. Good luck to you!

Well ... that sucks.

My wife and I originated our contracts in the mount pleasant store ... but now live in Florida. I just called as well and they said they could do it in any alltel corporate location but not over the air and that there is no option to do it yourself. They also told me that conversion to verison is scheduled to be complete by sometime in september and that they are not sure how it will be handled once that happens. I may call general tech support and ask them as well for other options.

It's crazy, the run around they give when you ask any questions about the update. I was duped when I bought this phone of a promise of no more then 2 months wait for 2.2 back in November 2010 and still no update. When I called and complained, the only option I was given was to drop the contract ($200+) because they do NOT know when if ever I'll get an update now. smh

So ... I called tech support about reception into my wife's desire has. They told me it sounded like she had a faulty receiver and that it could be replaced under warrenty exchange. Further more I was told that the warrenty replacements are shipping with froyo. When my wife's replacement comes (it is supposed to ship today) I'll confirm this.
