I have a rooted DroidX and made the mistake of removing a few system apps, including Messaging.apk. Now I open the text message application and it closes right away. I tried copying package dumps (from another thread somewhere) to /system/apps/ and installing them, but I get a "Application not Installed" message.

Can anyone provide any help? How can I get the phone to reinstall these applications?

Just move the .apk file to the system/app folder and then change the permissions to: User; read, rewrite - Group; read - and Others; read. DO NOT try to install it, just restart your phone and it should be working.
