Backup Software without root?

Hello everyone!

This is my first post! Yay!

Just got my new Android phone two days ago (so yes, I'm a noob) and I want to root it. I know that by doing so I will void my warranty and let's say I find this a bit scary so I'm looking for workarounds.

I am interested in backing up EVERYTHING on my phone (ROM included) just in case, God forbid, I ever need to send it in for service (is there a 'backup-free' way of doing this?!). I've read about Nandroid backup, but you need a rooted phone in order to use it.

So, finally, my question is: how do I backup my unrooted phone? I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini (S5570) with Froyo.XWKC1

Please, oh please, help a damsel in distress!

MyBackupPro is a good one that will backup all your user data and apps.
More more advanced backups, you need to be rooted.

Quit worrying so much...contacts back themselves up, paid apps are tied to your account, and most of your important stuff should be on your sd card. Also on many phones under menu>settings>privacy choose back up data and settings

I'm not interested in backing up my apps or contacts, I'm interested in backing up my ROM.

MyBackupPro doesn't do the trick unless the phone is rooted.

I need other solutions. Anyone?

Sorry but there is no way to back up your rom with out being rooted.

What do you mean backup your rom? Mybackup backs up every setting I can think of. The only issue is the lack of market links unless you are rooted

I get it now.
When you root, you don't really touch your current ROM. So you can make a nandroid backup after you root. Then you can restore your original ROM if anything later goes wrong.
To remove the root, you will need to flash the phone with a RUU.

Correct, when you first root all you're usually doing is flashing a new recovery image and granting su root permissions. Nothing else on your rom is touched.

So after you get to that point you'll be able to boot into recovery (hold vol up and power for my phone) and you'll be able to do a nand backup (complete copy of your phone, apps, data, cache, settings).

Then you'd do the full data and cache wipe and flash a new rom.

Alexandrine.. I got your point... and I have the same question for people here.

The real point of this all is that ROOTED PHONES DOES NOT HAVE ANY WARRANTY.. and we don't want to void and be without our factory warranty.
My Atrix has a custom rom by brazilian's provider VIVO and if we root or change to another ROM (ex. greyblur..gingerblur or anyother) and have any kind of demage or trouble (even if it happens in the future or even if the problem has no directly link with the root process) motorola will say that root process was not allowed and.. blah blah blah.. and at this point the warranty's already gone and denied.

What we'd like to do is backup this original rom that came with the cellphone BEFORE root the fone.

and the real question is:

Is it possible to backup Atrix's orginal ROM without the root process has been done yet??? and if YES.... How To do it!?

Here are my 2 pennies:

why don't you root your phone with gingerbreak (works with the vivo firmware), and than backup as is with mybackup pro? If you need to sent your phone to tech service, flash your backup and then open gingerbreak to UNROOT your device.

Here is a quick note on MyBackup Pro: they charge for backing up to their servers (cloud) for anything that is over 200mg. I am trying to find a good option to backup to Dropbox (FYI it is 2GB free and you can get 10GB free if you refer a few people to the site.)

Not entirely true. Your in-app settings (game progress, app configuration, etc...) isn't going to be backed up this way.

Rooting doesn't not necessarily involve bootloader unlocking.
Depending on rooting method, only the stock recovery is replaced with custom recovery. Nothing else is wiped.

You've probably seen this question asked hundreds of times and I'm sorry to bother you with the repetition. I am a bit curious about this though and if you could please elaborate on this I would greatly appreciate it.

The thing is, there are tens (possibly hundreds) of guides online about rooting an Android phone (a Nexus One in my case). The problem is that too many of them are outdated (they go back to the days when 2.2 was a novelty item). Nobody bothered to update outdated guides or to simply remove them, and churning through all this info is quite the task.

I would love to root my phone, but I've had it for a year and I dread the idea of if being completely wiped and having to re-configure and re-install EVERYTHING. The best back-up apps (e.g. Titanium) require root, making it a bit of a quagmire (I want to back up in order to root but I need to be rooted in order to do a complete backup).

Any suggestions/ideas would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!

Well, you could backup your data (which should be the most important thing), and also backup the apk files of your applications. Complete backup solutions like MyBackupPro should take car of that.
After that, root it and immediately make a nandroid backup. Install also Titanium Backup and this time properly backup your applications. Now you can play with custom ROMs, and you should be able to go back to your stock ROM in no time.

Regarding the guides, I suggest you ask how updated are the guides in Nexus One forum from the Guides/Moderators that mostly post in that section (or have a Nexus One phone). I know that the rooting guides in Desire section are up to date.

No, you should be glad about that.

Your phone does backup your contacts, calendar and some Google services related data in the cloud, so that you have a backup just in case your phone is gone.

I'm sitting here with two Atrix 4G's next to me. I have a full copy of all my data in a Titanium backup folder on my SD card.

(I know this isnt the forum for it but)
Atrix firmware .141 . It seems, as soon as I root.. my phone because a ticking time bomb that reboots RANDOMLY whenever the hell it wants to. It can vary between 15 minutes and 15 hours, but it NEVER stops. I have recently even found that walking into certain areas in my house and on my property cause it to happy more frequently (although It might just be coincidence at this point ...).

That means I can't get my backups ! What a useless endevour. Now I am starting the phone fresh without rooting at all, installing each app as I need it.

It's a real cluster @#$@# of a waste of time but what the hell else option do we have? Why doesn't AT&T / Motorla get their act to gether and realiaze they could profit immensely if they invest IN THE PROPER TECH SUPPORT TRAINING to actually leverage the abilities of these devices, and work with the customers to ensure the experience is a positive one.

Instead, I'm left with a device that is capable of so much but able to do so little UNLESS I waste my time like a ****** reconfigurating everything from scratch each time I need new hardware. SO STUPID!

but it's related to the question. There are no apps that import a backup without needing root (Which is all I need in order to get my data into my otherwise-perfectly-working new warranty-replaced hardware)
