Get 2 days of battery on your Eris --> follow this tip

This is explained by our Eris guru Caddyman here along with many other tips for optimizing battery.

The most important of the tips was to disable mobile networks in settings-->wireless settings--->Mobile network. Uncheck this when you don't need your data.

I made a shortcut to wireless settings to quickly turn on/off this feature Anycut.

I've noticed a HUGE increase in battery life. My phone can go 2 days without a charge until the end of the 2nd day. Seriously, that's big!

If you just want to check your emails and stuff here and there, turn off your data until you are ready to do that. Some don't care about this, so not a big problem to them, but for some of you who need your phones to make calls throughout the day this is your biggest TIP/Trick. Do this for a day or two and you will see this is true. No joke.

and not staying in crappy signal areas.

I'm thinking of buying some land down the street and moving my house down there. That should help with the "crappy signal problem". And probably be as convenient to me as using a smartphone as a glorified feature phone. (I'm truly glad that others get what they need for battery life, but if I didn't want data on my phone, I would not have purchased an Eris.)

It may be cheaper to break your contract and switch providers, no?

That's nothing.

I can get > 2 WEEKS! of battery life!

My secret? Simple, I take out the battery when I am not checking my email, and store it in the freezer. And I only check my email on Thursdays.

Really, I think the freezer is the key.

Hardy HAR HAR! Love sarcasm. It makes my day all the more lovely. Well, what freezer do you use....we need to know because we all want the same results! Are thursdays better than other days?

Sucks dude. You didn't want the whole data but wanted the apps and stuff. I would have suggested an ipod touch then. Try the old *228 trick and see if switching towers does the trick.

Lol I am not a guru I just read a lot. I do not advise doing this. It does works and if you don't mind not being connected great, but it bugs me out knowing I may have an important email or something. I do not turn my network off unless I'm home on WiFi.

Come on you wouldn't have made that tutorial if you didn't know what you were doing. So modest. What's so important that you can't turn off your 3g? I'm in school so I don't really care if I get email. I just check it through out the day so it's not like I won't get to it. I'm really liking my phone now after testing this out. I switched to basic android and I've seen some improved battery and speed, but not much. I'll be switching back to sense UI soon.

Agree...this is a smart phone people. So why would you turn off data plan? For that just get a regular phone and be done with it. BTW when is HTC going to fix this battery issue, never i guess?

I would have to agree as well. I didn't get this phone primarily for games and apps. I got it primarily as a personal/work phone to be used as a smart (data) phone. I have already been to school so my days of sitting in a classroom and not worrying about emails and playing games on a phone are pretty much over.

Although I am sure this option may work for some, I think the majority of the people will find that this option is borderline ridiculous for a smart phone owner that wants to use it as such.

If I had wanted a toy without a data plan I would have gotten an iPhone.

Isn't there a toggle widget for Mobile Network? Don't have my phone in front of me right now, but I swear I have one.

And to whoever said something about HTC "fixing" the battery life. You have to understand... this is a smartphone with a big, beautiful screen and lots going on in the background. It just simply WILL NOT get great battery life like the dumbphones or bb's some of us have come from. It's all about learning how your phone works, doing some tweaking and charging it more often.

I personally have no issue with charging it every night and I even bring my cable with me to work so I can stream Pandora all day.

I didn't make that tutorial, the threads that are stuck in this section of mine are more like compilations of various post from throughout the threads here that I find to work.

I was very leary of adding this particular tip cause I don't like the idea of it by principle, it was pushed hard by a member named Grimster who now that I think back may have been Onion/Napster.

Regardless, the tip does work, it does save battery considerably, at that time Grimster touted 6 days with it off. I can't deal with no emails instantly. I own 4 forums and I admin/maintain about 10 other websites so I kinda need to be connected.

Yes there is, add widget>HTC Widgets>settings>mobile network.

Might seem dumb to some people, but I just put my phone into "Airplane mode" at night so that I don't get e-mails, calls, or updates, and just get them when I get up. 93% battery when I fell asleep, 93% when I woke up. That alone saves me about 30-40% of battery life each and every day.

Alright haters, the reason I don't just turn the phone off instead of putting into "airplane mode" is because my alarm clock is on the phone (and as most of you, mine sucks right now, does not work like ever). So maybe I need a new plan? Haha

yes you need a new plan

go to radio shack

buy a $5 alarm clock

turn your phone off at night

prosper.

Well mr. caddyman, thanks for telling me how to live, but I think if thats really what I wanted I would have done that a while ago. I have never been late to work (knock on wood) so somehow my current system is working fine, I was just trying to poke a joke on the Eris alarm clock.

Anyways turning my phone off at night would do nothing for me as when I turn the phone back on in the morning that will take 1-3% of battery to do, so whos the smart guy now? (not that 1-3% matters that much, but the point is, it would take more battery life than my current way)

Am I missing something?

I can not believe that leaving your phone on airplane mode at night would save more battery then turning it off and turning it on in the morning...sorry.

Do an expierment, I am sure that airplane mode saves more battery, because the startup of the phone turning on always takes a bit of battery.

Are you missing something about the alarm clock not working? Well I have a good internal clock and wake myself up early everyday and my girlfriend has 2 alarms too (roughly the same time I get up) so I don't know why getting another alarm clock that I would not use would help. I just don't think you should try to tell me how to live, maybe suggest something, but don't tell me how to live, expecially cause you don't know me.

I was attempting to be funny, apparently I failed miserably...

reading your posts lilroot it looks like you said your alarm on your eris doesnt work like many peoples dont. Then after I suggested a alarm clock (which was serious with a side of funny) you said your system works fine. That to me, was confusing, cause I thought you meant your alarm clock on your phone. I knew nothing of your super awesome internal clock, my dad has one of those, I do not, I have a real alarm clock cause if not I would never get up.
