(These improvements will only be noticeable for lower-end android phones)
Here are some ways ive improved my Wildfire's speed
Be sure to add thanks if it helps or comment if there are any problems

Change display resolution (720*480)
To do this you have to use Launcherpro, if you dont have it install it, you can choose to uninstall it after if you want

*Update* - 13/11/2011
If you have ADW Launcher you can also do this without using Launcherpro
ADW Launcher: [Menu]>Add>Custom shortcut>Pick your activity>Settings>Display Resolution
Skip to number 3)

1) Hold on the home screen and a pop-up "Add to Home screen should appear"
Follow these step
2) Shortcuts>Activities>Settings>Display Resolution
3) After doing that you be redirected back to your home screen, with a pop-up confirming you choice press "Ok"
4) The settings icon should be on your screen, tap it then pick "480p (720*480)
You should notice a speed boost when play a game like 'fruit ninja'

Basically what this has done is decrease the amount of pixels that your phone renders in the display, this reduces the need for your phone to produce higher quality images. BUT the quality of the display will not suffer, its all a free speed boost.
(Activities can also be used in other areas such as quick shortcuts to sound, security, it basically creates shortcuts for most system processes. But be warned do not tamper with the unknown, unless you know exactly what your doin,)I once made my phone lose its service centre number, so i couldnt send text messages

Account sync
1) Menu>Settings>Accounts & sync> (Untick background data)

This turns of automatic data usage, so applications such as market will not continuously receive data without your knowledge, it also increases batttery life, only turn it on when your need it but turn it of when you dont

Remove un-used widgets

This is really straight-forward, saves your phone the trouble of loading numerous widgets

All animations

Menu>Settings>Display>Animation>(Tick All animations)

This makes the phone look slightly faster, it gives your phone the smooth transition effect, so it looks better

Turn of plug-ins

(Depending on what browser you use they are all included in this)
I'm using the stock browser to show this
Open browser>Menu>More>Settings>Enable plugins>Off

This is more on improving your browsers speed, it stops ads that use flash playing without your permission, those ads can cause the browser to become unstable and lag. Besides who actually clicks on ads these days?

Decrease beautiful widgets CPU usage

In my first point (above) i mentioned using activities from launcherpro, ive found another way to increase speed but you have to have installed beautiful widgets

Activities>Beautiful widgets>settings

After confirming the choice tap the icon
1) untick 'CPU Hog'
because it tells beautiful widgets to use more CPU for better weather animations
2) untick 'animate sun and moon'
I see no point in not doing it
3) tick 'disable grass'
It tells you that it will lower CPU usage

TURN OF AUTOMATIC SYSTEM UPDATE CHECKS

Menu>Settings>About phone>System software updates>Untick scheduled check

:( Sadly because HTC Wildfire is not getting gingerbread so i doubt it will get any future updates so turn of automatic updates, decreases data usage for your android

THATS ALL FOR THE MOMENT
Im currently looking for more ways to improve it speed without rooting, be sure to like my post if it helps. See yaaa

Sorry i wasnt really specific
Yh the LauncherPro application :)
You can't find 'Display Resolution' by searching your phone, to my knowledge ive only found LauncherPro(application) to permit access into some specific processes on your phone and use them

Love you for putting this up ^^
Makes some of my games a lot faster.

I wish I knew how to root though, since you mentioned in your post (i think) it can make it faster.

Its kool mate, ive tried to find other ways but i havnt yet found any, ive decided to actually root my Wildfire, since it is a budget android phone, to make it extremely fast is to root.

Here is a link for all those who want to root, beware when you complete the first part your warranty is gone

i set the no animation. others you suggests in my phone are difault, am i wrong?

So your saying people said you should set it to "No animations"?
I didnt get the "others you suggests in my phone are difault" part

I say using "All animations" is preferred because it compliments the speed of the your phone, im using all animations and my phone looks better due to smooth screen transitions, when i used "No animations" I gives the illusion that your phone has had a massive speed boost, but if you notice, sometimes the change isnt instantaneous, "All animations" keeps a consistency when changing slides

Each number represents the order of the pictures, from left to right
1)Hold on any space on your home screen for 2 secs until the "Add to homescreen" window appears, then tap "Shortcuts"
2)Next tap "Activities"
3)You should be taken to a screen similar to this (depending on the apps you have on your phone)
4)Scroll down until you see "Settings", take on it to expand the contents
5)Scroll down until you see "Display resolution", then tap on it
6)This window should appear, tap "OK"
7)You should be taken back to your homescreen with the "Settings" icon there, tap on that icon
8)A new window should appear which says "Display Resolution", tap on 480p (720*420), then tap OK (sorry you cant see it, but it is definitely on your Android)

There you go, you can chose to uninstall Launcherpro if you want, if you do don't worry it wont revert the changes you have made

Hi there,

I was looking through the options, and in screenshot 7 it shows the options of "com.android.settings.framework.app.displayresolutiondialog", but I can't seem to find this in my list of settings.

I wonder if it's the version of LauncherPro that's the issue? I'm using 0.8.6, and have donated, so I wonder if that's the issue? Which version of LP are you using?

Cheers,

wow maan, i cant believe you can do this, oke this is my spec, im sorry i didnt mention it yet, i dont know if this could help to solve the problem or not

htc wildfire A3333 (rooted)
os cyanogenmod 7.0.3-buzz (stable mod) 2.3.3
base band 13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25
kernel 2.6.35.13-nFinity arco@tuxbox #1
cpu ARMv6-compatible processor rev 2 (v6l)

my cellphone is the first wildfire version i guess, cause right know you can get the new wildfire called wildfire S (i hope you are not using this one), and then im gooling for a sec and find that old wildfire has 2 version CMIIW, which is A3333 and A3335, what are you using for this issue? the new one or A3333 or A3335?

i have been shock when i looked your "speed-screenshot_7-1-.png" picture, in this pic i cant find "location setting" in sub-menu of setting, instead i got "location & security settings", and then i cant find some main-menu like "settings widget" and "setup" too, the one and only that i have is "setup wizard"

when i look that pic i find another differences of our phones, it says "com.android.settings.HtcCdmaGPSLocationSettingV2" the key that make me concern is CDMA, is that true that your wildfire is using CDMA network, cause if this true we use different phone here, so thats why i cant get your customization with my phone like you said before, im using GSM wildfire :p

sorry im too noob and for bad english :D

edit: the difference between the a3333 and the a3335 is that the a3335 supports telstra's nextG network

yup, im still dont understand how this issue come up even when we use the same spec i guess, so whats the problem? kernel, radio, ROM? :(

Yep, HTC Wildfire (not S)
Android version 2.3.3 (CyanogenMod-7.0.3-buzz)

Maybe CyanogenMod removed this from the options?

is that possible? so we should change the rom?

Erm im not too sure that it will work but its worth a shot temporarily changing to a Wildpuzzle ROM. (Btw i did all those changes before i rooted my phone), so maybe (I wouldnt count on it) CyanogenMod removed some options or there may be a few bugs that havent been fixed I dont know, I have yet to come across a ROM with no bugs.

I highly doubt that will be a solution, like i said above "I did all those changes before i rooted my phone" im guessing that maybe its a luck of the draw??
Some Wildfire's ive heard/seen have been overclocked to 768MHz or 800MHz and are stable running at that speed, I have to settle with running at 748MHz, if i change to 786MHz minutes later i get stuck in a bootloop.

Maybe check in other areas under the Settings tab in Activities (Im referring to my printscreen 4 above)

Ok after months from the start of this thread, I am now rooted and running CyanogenMod 7.1.0.1 and I can now say
Yes...
It has been removed
So all those using CyanogenMod will not be able to change Display Resolution

so, if i do all these, the animations, the resolution, is the HTC wildfire a sweet phone?

Well the reason i created this thread is because i wanted to share ways of improving overall performance of the Wildfire

The Wildfire (fresh out of the box), is not a sweet phone in my perspective, you have to either find tweaks to improve performance or root your Wildfire to gain access to more ways in which you can improve performance, because when you use your Wildfire if you just got it, it seems great but after a few months you will know why its not that great
