texts during call?

I was wondering what is up with this feature... when I first bought my droid I didn't have it, then after a few days I could text during a call like normal, now I can't anymore.
Anyone else have this issue? It is very annoying when during a call I get no texts then after a call ill get a bunch of important ones. Every other phone I've ever had does this (motorola Q, Q9m, samsung omnia) is this a glitch on my phone or a common issue?

I didn't think this was an issue with me, so I just did a test. I made a call, then txted myself with my work phone. Text came through immediately, no problem. Keep in mind, it does not play you're ringtone when you are on a call. I really like this feature, personally. It does, however, light the notification light and give you an icon in the notification bar.

During my test, I was in 3G mode ... not wireless. Though wireless should be even less of an issue.

The reason why you are not getting texts or able to send texts out during a phone call I'm pretty sure is because of the Verizon network. Your cell service does not support sending and receiving information when on a phone call. This is why when you hang up the phone you receive all of your texts and all the ones you typed are than sent out. This is something AT&T is really bragging about in their commercials when they bash Verizon. It's just like surfing the web while talking on the phone.

My next guess would be app interference?

If you run a 3rd party messenger, uninstall it.

If you run a task killer app, make sure it isn't automatically running, and killing the messaging app.

Any app that does anything with SMS or MMS, remove to test.

I just removed my app killer and I'm going to see if it works.. the only other messaging app I have is 'hi yahoo'... and I don't think that's a issue. I did a test earlier and it received a text during a call, and that's what annoys me because it is hit and miss, happens sometimes and not others

For me with a similar problem the issue was I was using Handcent for messaging so I set 'Startup Auditor' to disable messaging (default app)... turns out I could Always send then but frequently lost incoming messages... once I stopped Auditor or APK from touching messaging all went back t normal and I can receive and send txts during a call or any other time successfully... so replacemnt apps my rely on default apps being able to run Even if they you think it's a full replacement...

No.

Verizon's network can handle text/voice at the same time. I've been able to do this on my Droid, and I've been able to do this on my dumbphone.

What's 'Startup Auditor'? Is it an app?

I have Handcent and I've turned off the notifications from the default messenger. I haven't had any problems with texts in calls but I have had a couple texts arrive late. One was 20 mins late and the other was 7 hours late. Not sure what caused this, I'm thinking it's hancent, but I can't think of a good way to be sure.

You can definitely receive SMS while on a call. SMS doesn't go over the data line, and there should be no problem receiving tem while on a call. AT&T is touting data and voice at the same time, which neither Verizon nor Sprint can do, because that is how CDMA is designed.

The Droid doesn't send the notification of course, but if they aren't coming while on a voice call, then I would think something is wrong or an app is interfering. Have you installed any apps since it stopped working? Are you using the stock msging app? I noticed recently that my txtx were delayed coming in and sometimes didn't send. I was using Handcent. I've uninstalled handcent for now to see if maybe it had something to do with the problem, but I havent txted much the last few days so I can't confirm yet.

MMS shouldn't come through while on a call as I'm pretty sure it uses the data connection to download the message. On my last two WinMo phones, I got the notification of the new message, but the attachment wouldn't download until I ended the voice call. I don't know what happens on Android, as i haven't received an MMS while on a call yet.
