Hi all:

I got my S2 yesterday and it has been working pretty good except for a few things.

First of all, it crashed today while I was watching a video in MoboPlayer and then when I came home, it wouldn't let me charge because it said the temperature was too high. I downloaded BatteryMonitor to check and it was 67C. Then I rebooted it and it went back down to around 40C and let me start charging.

The other issue is the very slow charge time and poor battery life. I need around 4.5 hours to charge the battery to full. And a full charge only lasts around half a day.

Do you think I have a faulty battery and should I return it or is this normal?

Thanks for your input.

what firmware are you running?

my guess is you have a stuck process that is making the CPU run loops which is why the phone feels hot and also why the charging takes so long... because the more power the phone uses the less there is to go charge the battery while plugged in

if i leave my phone in standby and don't use it while charging it is full around 3 hours, but if i play with it while plugged in it can take 4-5 hours

reboot your phone, all processes will be reset to normal

My phone takes on average 2-3 hours I would say to fully charge, depending from when I start charging. Usually I leave it until it gets to <10% before I charge it. I pretty much only charge it at night so it doesn't matter to me how long it takes, as long as it's 100% when I wake up. I'm pretty impressed with it's charging time though

Same for me, 2-3 hours.

My battery generally lasts me a waking day (ie 06:45-00:00) and I always put it on to charge overnight so it wouldn't really matter if it took 6 hours, as long as it is charged when I wake up, which it always is.

as far asi know, the firmware with the latest release date is KF2. to be honest, i dont know how long it takes to get a full charge, im usually less than 10% at night, n i plug it in overnight n its 100% in the morning. lol. but i have noticed a (slight) improvement over KE7 in terms of battery life, on KF2

How did you get the KF2 firmware? When i go to Samsung update it tells me there no update available on KE7 just now.

Also above someone meantioned flashing a rom? How does this differ from rooting?

Thanks

just updated to KF3 on my expansysUSA bought UK phone

you have to update through KIES software on your PC, not the over the air option in the phone settings

but sadly i also experienced the hot phone slow charge bug again this morning

i tried closing all apps and clearing ram memory but it did not fix it, so i did a reboot and all is well again

have no idea what is causing it but seems random

i discovered the cause of the issue for me at least!!!

Handcent SMS (Medium) widget

this keeps showing up as 30-40% CPU real time usage even though i do not have the widget installed, and even after i force close it comes right back in a few seconds

i have uninstalled Handcent SMS and the phone is charging normal now and not as hot, and i did not even have to reboot

going to use GO SMS PRO instead

I had this heat issue yesterday. The battery was on charge except it was discharging faster than it was charging and the phone went REAL hot - hottest I have ever felt it since purchasing the phone. I emptied ram and closed down apps and let it charge overnight although but it was still running hot. This morning I find that my phone has died from usage and has been charged to 100% after the phone has died. I'm running the KF3 firmware and suspect this to be a bug (fine on KE7 before)

Do you have Handcent SMS installed? if so uninstall it.
I used free app Android Assistant to track down the highest cpu usage and it was Handcent widget that was bugged.

I previously had it installed before but uninstalled it as I liked the native messaging app better prior to installing the new KF3 update. Ever since this update I have had this issue, it happened again today where it died without me touching it and it was plugged in charging although this time into my laptop whereas the other time it was on ac power. :(

download Android Assistant its free
when it happens again, close all apps in task manager and clear ram cache

then open Android Assistant and look at your idle % it should be 80% or higher
if it isn't then you have a bugged process most likely a widget that auto loads itself when it isn't supposed to, you can go to the next tab in Android Assistant and scroll slowly through the list of items and look for whatever is using RTCPU greater than 20%

for me it was Handcent SMS (medium) widget and after i uninstalled Handcent SMS my batter life is now reaching 30+ hours on 1 charge with light use
