Mi
am i the only one that cant wait for this phone? i check the website about every 15 minuntes to see if there is an update on the realease date . I was very interesed in the EVO 3d ( i need the latest and greatest) until i seen this announced. I have the EVO now and i dont have a need for 3d ( very gimmicky). am i alone here?

And to a certain extent, I kinda like the fact that there's less hype behind the photon. Even though there'll likely be a lot more activity with regards to the EVO 3D, I've learned enough about Android that cross-posting in different forums is something that I'm not opposed to doing.

Ultimately, right now, the Photon looks to be more of the ideal phone for my needs personally. It's even being advertised for folks like me ("A perfect blend of business and entertainment"). How perfect is that? I guess it has double meaning for me because the entire statement is one in the same, as far as my situation is concerned.

And I'm even more happy about the fact that it'll have Microsoft office compatibility for me to be able to open office attachments and edit! That's ideal for business and something that I wasn't worth paying for an app on the EVO.

I was going to get an evo 3d but after seeing the reviews being less than stellar I think I'm going to hold off and see what the photon has to offer. How do moto phones stack up to HTC? the evo is my first HTC phone and I love it but would like something that can run a bit faster and has a higher res screen.

Discover Google Docs, my friend.

Photon + Dock + Google Docs = a glimpse at the future.

By next year expect android phones and cloud services to start replacing laptops for quite a few people.

The photon is being compared to the bionic, which tells me that it is being expected as a very popular device
Photon 4G vs. Droid Bionic: Motorola phone for impatient

I wouldn't expect much from the Bionic considering the Photon throws everything under the sun at you, and has better specs than the Bionic shown at MWC.

I think the main difference will be the use of OMAP 4460 instead of Tegra2 if rumors hold true. While the OMAP is more powerful on paper, I think the difference in actual use will be marginal.

The real challenge for the Phone will be the Galaxy S2, as they will battle it out for 2nd place after the Evo3D. Between the two, I'd go Photon for a number of reasons.

What are your reasons, Viber. I am 60/40 on these two now that the 3vo has fallen a bit in my thought process. I am leaning towards the Samsung Within ove the Photon, but only slightly. I am interesting in why you are leaning the other way.

Well i don't know about him but I am leaning towards the Photon because the other is a Samsung product. Samsung has a bad reputation on their updates.

Thanks, viber. I was just taking into consideration the fact that it gained a lot of hype when it was introuduced at CES. The fact that the Photon is being compared to it is really more a good thing than a bad thing, imo. Even if the Photon is just on par or even slightly below the Bionic in performance, that would be huge because the Bionic was being anticipated as the "smartphone of the year."

The Photon will have a dock for productivity, When using cloud services like Google docs I can basically replace my laptop with a Photon.

The Photon is more secure, so I can actually store some military contacts and info on it. It has a GSM radio so it will work overseas when I am on missions in Europe and North Africa. It's a grown up's phone.

The GS2 offers nothing over the GS1, so what's the point? If all a person wants is to stare at low resolution benchmarks, then the GS2 is pretty cool. I personally expect more.

Not to mention Samsung sucks with support and updates.

As I said before, Samsung is trying to create Android Apple products, while HTC and Motorola are trying to create better smartphones.

Viber, what is keeping someone from using their 3vo as a personal computer? Wouldn't you need just a blue-tooth mouse and keyboard?

Am I the only one who thinks the Photon is a little over-hyped right now? It has the Tegra2, a locked bootloader and overall looks to be playing catch-up to the 3vo and SGS2. I think the World-phone aspect is pretty cool but overall not really impressed. Maybe I'm just too excited for the Evo3d lol

Overhyped? LOL...How so? Look how many people post in here vs. the EVO 3D. I can't see how it's overhyped at all. If anything, it's underhyped.

Even with the locked bootloader, it's clear that the market for this phone is business folks that want a phone that'll serve dual purpose for them. That's why this phone caught my attention more-so than the EVO 3D. It works more for my needs than the EVO 3D does.

HTC needs to catch up with all of the other manufacturers that have a lot of internal storage on top of the micro SD card. The Photon provided all the additional things that I had wanted on my current EVO, which I still love.

Nothing, really, unless one where so inclined to carry a BT keyboard, mouse, HDMI cable and TV/Monitor.

As opposed to this:

Hyped? I don't think so. If anything will struggle to make a name for itself in the shadow of the Evo3D.

I do however think Motorola is smart not to try and compete as a multimedia device like the Evo3D, or as a benchmark whore like the SG2.

Instead Motorola is focusing on productivity, security and global portability, where the Photon is completely unchallenged. So if it seems to have "hype" it might be because it is the only phone that can do all this, so it has all the attention.

Absolutely. Only reason I'm actually considering upgrading from my EVO right now is how much focus they put (during announcement day, 6/9) on the fact that this phone was geared towards business folks. A device that focused on productivity, with regards to business, was EXACTLY what sold me. On top of that, it had everything that my EVO had, plus some upgrades that I was hoping the EVO would have when it was first released.

With the Photon, I can easily see myself using it for 2 years and be able to accomplish both business and personal needs.
