Whats with T-Mobiles N1 rates?

So my contract with Sprint ends March 1st and I was considering switching to T-mobile and getting the Nexus One. Is it true that the ONLY plan you can get for it is the $80 plan that only has 500 talk minutes? On top of that, its a 2 year contract with no upgrades. Thats what 2 different employees told me. Its either that or you buy the phone for $530. Either way, thats a complete ripoff. My plan with Sprint is unlimited everything for $99 a month and I can upgrade phones every 11 months. N1 is a pretty cool phone but not enough to have a plan like that, boo to T Mobile.

I do realize that but big deal. I use my phone for business too and go WELL over 500 talk minutes. I am sure most others do too. If I wanted a neat device to just text and surf the net with, I would get a netbook.

You could just use google voice on your N1. It won't use your minutes.

omg! Have you not read the thousands of posts here that tell you it is possible, and allowed, to change your plan after you buy the phone. Googles plan is just for them to sign you up. It is a even more plan. You can change it to any even more plan you want. Like the unlimited plan for $99. Yes its that easy. Please take one second out of your busy day to do a little research. Geez!

Google voice still requires an outbound phone call, thus using your minutes. Only way around this is to go with a VoIP solution, which requires a LOT more than just using google voice.

if you buy the Nexus for 530, then you get the EM Plus plan of your choice... I have the EM Plus 500 which is 59.99/mo for 500 minutes, unlimited txt, unlimited data, and NO contract.... you DON'T have to pay $80 for the 500minute standard contract plan (that you need to get if you purchase the Nexus for $180) when using a non-subsidized device... which is what the 530 Nexus provides you

the benefit for google voice, as i see it today, is for international calls... much cheaper...

and it also has a great voice mail app - gives you visual voicemail on the phone, and also the bonus of checking voice mail from any computer, with transcribed voice message to txt (it's an option that can be turned off)
