Brand new here. I am also having the power button issue. Seems to relate to the way the cover attaches and interfaces with the power switch. Big problem because the phone seems to bring up the power menu routinely when I brush against the power button. Also turns the phone on seemingly randomly.
Others than that I'm having a blast!

I am having this issue as well. I am getting used to it though. I will also say that if you use cases, it will likely be shielded with a hard case or be just right with a silicon case....sense those usually make it harder to activate the power button. I am not minimizing this issue. I am just saying that it may not be one after all....

My power button works sometimes.....and not others. It took about 15 attempts at pushing the button to get the screen to turn on today. I know that the actual button you touch with your finger is part of the back and that the external button is just something that hits the real power button inside. I took the back off and the "real" power button on the actual phone works perfectly when repeatedly pressed with the tip of a pen. So.... the problem must be the outer button that is part of the backing / battery cover. Anyone else having this problem? My sprint guy says he will order me another phone but Im wondering if there is an easy fix without going through all the hassle of returning it. Thanks!

Unless you can see something odd with the button on the case itself - maybe some grain or grit got into it? I've got no good ideas for you.

However - your store rep may be ok with just swapping out the back cover and seeing if that solves it for you.

I had that problem!

For a while I thought it was just a touch sensitive button. It wouldn't go down at all when I pressed it...DO NOT FORCE IT! I almost broke mine by pressing hard...I accidentally fixed it when i took the back cover off. When i put it back on I made sure I slid the phone in top first and took care to make sure the external and internal buttons fit flush. Keep doing it until it powers on easily.

All the reviews pre-release said the power button was extremely easy to press. On my phone the power button is actually difficult to press. You have to fully depress the button until it "clicks". This makes me think they may have seen the reviews and adjusted something on the battery cover to compensate. Who knows?

I got an OtterBox Commuter and it's actually make it somewhat easier for me to lock and unlock my phone. The rubbery texture on the case makes me feel more comfortable about pressing down safely.

Either way it's not something I am even remotely upset about. I have just adjusted to it and it's really no big deal. Now if I couldn't turn the phone on or off, that would be a different story.

I wonder how the makers of extended batteries and battery cover manufacturers will handle the battery cover on the Evo 3D and the Sensation? It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

EDIT:

I just tried this. I reapplied my battery cover right to left taking special care with the top and now my power button is pressing much easier. Thanks man!

No problem! I was getting pretty frustrated with mine but when it started working, it was a great feeling :)

I dont have problem with the power button, but sometimes I do have probelms with the screen. Sometimes, just out of the sudden, only the bottom half of the screen works and the top half wont respond, so i have to reboot my phone for it to work again! =/
I don't want to alarm you, but if my phone did that I would be at the Sprint Store as soon as possible getting a replacement. You might want to get them to check it and make sure you don't have a lemon. :(

...And I thought I was the only one this happened to. I experienced this at least several times, but I had contributed it to accidentally getting it wet the following day that I got it. But from your testimony, it appears that mine wasn't an isolated incident. And like yourself, I would repeatedly press the button a number of times until I got power.

Fortunately, that, along with a non-working camera button, I was able to return it to the Sprint store I bought it from and got a brand new replacement free of charge that very same day. Although with your situation, I'm not sure why your Sprint dealer would have you wait so he can order it. If they're selling them to other customers, then that means they have an extra one to swap out for you. Maybe they're just being cheap about it. If I were you, I'd raise a stink about it and demand they give you a new phone on the spot. After all, Sprint is still making money off of you while you hang on to that inoperable phone during that waiting period.

I would bo what armageddonx said and go to Sprint. Those seem like major issues. Gotta do it before your 30 days are up! If nothing else they could do a hard reset or something to fix it.

I had this problem, I ended up taking it to my sprint store. They told me it was a defective button, ended up getting something from them that said as such so I could take it to Radio Shack. Radio shack kept on trying to tell me all I had to do was tap it, that it was touch sensitive. I called bull and had to jump through hoops. My new one is 100% better, has a good feel when I press the button.

Took mine to the sprint store and they swapped the back with another. Works perfectly now with no problem. Incidentally, they told me not to put the back cover on top first. They said the phone needs to sink down level into the back cover for proper button alignment.
Yeah, see, I put mine on camera button side first and charging port side second and that made the power button press perfectly for me.

Hey guys.. im new to this forum but i always have looked here for help with my phone.. i recently upgraded from the samsung moment to the HTC EVO3d and i LOVE it.... BUT i had my evo for alittle over a month and i was already having issues.. everyone i talked to said my voice sounded muffled. So i called sprint and was told " i had two towers out in my area" SO i didnt worry about my device and instead blamed it on the bad coverage.. well i brought my evo to a sprint store and i was told that indeed i had a bad mic and they ordered me a rufurb ( UGH ) so ive had this one for 5 days and no problems at all except... the power button just doesnt have the right feel to it.. and it doesnt respond everytime i press it.. it just doesnt have the same " perkiness" if that is the word lol that my first 3D had.. my question is.. will a sprint repair center fix the power button? or will they send for another refurb?? I dont want to rebuy apps for a third time!!!! lol any info would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum. :)
The power button has been a common source of different issues for a number of people since day 1 release.

This thread has some great tips, such as carefully re-seating the battery door starting at the top of of the phone. Or test the button responsiveness with the battery door removed. Maybe even adjust the button pad that is installed in the battery door. If that doesn't help, ask Sprint to test a different battery door on your phone, they can swap you one. And if all else fails they can repair it or get you a new phone.

And finally, you should not have to re-buy any Android applications. When you purchase them once, they should be saved to your gmail profile and you can re-download them again without re-purchasing them.

That is always semi-frustrating when they act a little bit like you are crazy for having an opinion that they cannot empathize with.

I would take it to another Sprint repair store in your area if possible. If there is not another one near you and you have to go back to the same store again, try going at a different time of day or weekend and asking a different associate politely to test the power button on your phone. Then see if they can try out a different battery door on your phone just for fun. It may also help if you do a side by side comparison with the store display(s) to give another point of reference in your favor (assuming your phone's power button has a different feel that can be easily detected)
