Root rooted/install blocked message still?

I would suggest just copying the APK (installer) to the SD card and running it that way.

Could be that debugging is off or blocked.

Here are the steps I went through to do it:

http://androidforums.com/x10-all-th...-x10-setting-up-boot-loader-custom-theme.html

Installed z4root.1.3.0.apk by copying the file to my SD card...open the apk file using a system file viewer (I was using OI File Manager...I had the file in my Download folder)

Installed the APK.

Opened the Z4 app.

Before I ran the app I decided to copy over xRecovery-0.2-release.apk to the Download folder on the SD card as well.

I ran the Z4Rooting app and was granted with two choices, to root temporarily or permanently

I chose permanent and it prompted me to turn on USB Debugging in the Development page it brought me to I turned it on
Here are the APKs on this page:

http://androidforums.com/x10-all-things-root/215481-one-click-root-app.html

There are 3 different versions...I chose the third which is - http://androidforums.com/attachment...292457441-one-click-root-app-z4root.1.3.0.apk

That debugging option is in the main Settings -> Application...make sure Unknown sources is checked and in Development turn USB debugging on

Debugging is on, I copied the apk to my SD card, but every time I try to use Astro to install the app, I get the message "Install Blocked. For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in Android Market."

Unknown Sources box is checked too?

Maybe uncheck it and re-check it. I think the Unknown Source box is the problem....gotta accept installations from unknown sources.

Yeah, I just looked up the location of it, found what you told me. However, under Settings>Applications, all I've got is Manage applications and Development.

That sucks...do you happen to be on ATT?

I just read someone on some other site complaining about that.

Don't know what you can do to get around that.

Maybe reflash from scratch using SEUS to some specific version. I am sure there is a way.

What version of Android do you have? 1.6 or 2.something?

Someone here mentioned it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854651

or better yet - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790505

Guess it is a pretty annoying process for AT&T customers.

Here are the full instructions I guess - http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/08/09/exploid-root-method-for-xperia-x10-tutorial/

The exploid method worked perfectly! Thanks a lot. :D

Huh. So. By worked perfectly, I mean half worked. The entire process went as it should have, Busybox installed, and I installed TitaniumBackup, which properly had SuperUser rights, etc, so I thought it had worked. But I still can't install apps from my sd card, and I still can't uninstall the stock apps. So I'm ...half rooted? Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Since you are nearly done, I would suggest loading xRecovery here - [RECOVERY] xRecovery 0.2-release | INSTALLATION FIX | 16/12/2010 - xda-developers

Then once you have that xRecovery loaded, you could install a custom image like the x10 Eminence one - http://androidforums.com/x10-all-things-root/240418-rom-x10-eminence-xrecovery.html

It will wipe the phone clean (so do a backup first) you can actually do a full backup using xRecovery. So I backed up my old setup before I loaded Eminence...so if I ever want to go back to the Rogers original setup, I could load that image. Or load any other ones. It makes all the backups on the phone so you could load images and do backups on the fly.

But the point is that if you load a new image like that Eminence, it will change your options. So you should get the ability to load Unknown Sources...that option will show up as far as I am aware.

I thought this THEME was for 2.2 users and NOT for 2.1 users, correct? Since 2.2 is still a BETA and yo cannot use your camera, I have stuck with 2.1. Am I correct in my assumptions?? Thanks!

Eminence is 2.1...well here is what my phone says:

Model - X10i
Firmware Version - 2.0.2.a.0.24
Baseband version - 2.0.46
Kernel version - 2.6.29 SEMCUser@SEMCHost +1
Build number X10 Eminence v 1.2

Some of the other themes out are 2.2...but this one has the best of 2.1

Eminence image is a system.img file and md5 and data and cache.img....actually do a restore of the image on the phone.
