Thanks for this wonderful tool. Now that I have recovery installed on my phone, can I deleted the recovery image off the sd card? Also, when I go to flash a new ROM, will it over write my recovery; will I have to go through the process again? Or will new ROM's have a recovery? Or (yes another or), will the recovery stay put and just flash the new ROM?

Thanks in advance.

Yes once you have the img flashed you can delete it off your sdcard.

As long as the rom you are going to flash is instructed to not touch the recovery it won't touch it (I have never seen a rom overwrite a custom recovery so you should be fine.) So the recovery should stay put.

I would personally leave the recovery.img on your sdcard for a while just in case it doesn't stick for some odd reason (happened on the Ally, non rom flashing related though) so you can easily re-flash it if you need to.

I have a Vortex with FW 2.2.2 and it is rooted, but I don't know if this will work because when I went to download the Vortex file, it said 2.2.1, is it safe to flash it or will I have to wait for a file under the name 2.2.2?

The 2.2.1 is just the version of the recovery. You should be fine as all the versions of the recoveries listed for all the devices here are version 2.2.1

Device:Optimus S
Recovery version (?): 3e (?) OR 4a8e8d4a64cc027020f6dc2e1371a6ee recovery-RA-optS-2.2.1-GNM.img
I matched MD5Sum

After entering the 2nd line of code, I get error message of "invalid length" I have no clue as I have re-done the process several times and am entering exactly what is in the box.

I have no recovery log.

All help is appreciated.
Thanks.

i put in the follow code & this is what i get.. (cannot create /system/bin/flash_image: read-only file system) help pleasee

Im guessing thats after the last part, did you enter "su" and get a "#" instead of the "$" AND THEN issue the remount command successfully??? Sounds like you just need to re-remount /system/

mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak

i always get an error here any help?

What kind of error would be helpful, if the error is because the file isnt there, then donw worry about it. All this does is rename the "program, script, installer, thingamijiggy" (not sure of the linux term) that will overwrite the custom recovery with the stock one.

Hello all,

I currently own the DInc1. (ROOTED and CM7 Nightlies)
My early upgrade is not untill October.
I was looking into the DInc2, but with all the counter root that has been comming out in the forcefed updates, I was thinking maybe the Commando or the Vortex.

Has any one seen an update of GB on the Vortex or the Commando?
And does this method work with Froyo?

Thanks....

you are crazy, you dont want the vortex over the Dinc1. if you do, shit ill trade you my ally for it now!!! and you can still upgrade in october!
Pretty similar but mine has a keyboard and GREAT devs and ROMs, dont think the vortex has the same kind of community for it. Also it will probably never see an official GB update

i dont know anything about the commando but i doubt its any better than your Dinc1. id bet they figure out how to root and s-off the Dinc2 w/ GB

Hi, Im in the process of rooting my phone.Im on step four it says to install a costom recovery to my phone. I'm new to this so that's why Im asking. What app do I need to complete this step?

follow instructions in the first post to manually flash the recovery. if that's too difficult, you can use ROM manager but i would advise doing it this way. if you aren't comfortable doing it, maybe you don't NEED to root your phone.

Don't use ROM manager. There's a thread saying how it's bad for our phones (Optimus M).

whats bad? using ROM manager to flash gnm's amonra recovery? or using CWM recovery?

whats even worse for our phones (ANY PHONE) is rooting without understanding what your doing, but people do it ALL THE TIME. like i said, i advise doing it the manual way and if thats too much, maybe dont root.

if someone asks im going to tell them how to do it, ill also tell them they're better off doing it the manual way but i don't care if they dive head first into root without understanding these things and brick their phones, im just here to provide the information, what they do with it is on them. anyhow, not trying to argue, i just think if someone wants "easy" give it to them.
