Official phone release date thread

In Canuck Land, It says Q2 2010, I am hoping that it is April of Q2 and not June XD

http://xperia-x1.com/x10-to-be-rogers-exclusive-in-canada/

I won't be able to get it though :/ since I still have over 2 years on my 3 years contract (damn Rogers and its eternity contract). But I want to see if SE delivers on the X10. I am hoping the delay is due to SE upgrading the OS to 2.0 XD [am I hoping for too much?].

First Post, complete with some good news:

Dear David,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.
We regret to inform you that we have yet to be supplied with a definate date for the release of the Sony Ericsson X10 handset.
It is beleived to be released within the next 4-6 weeks but this will also depend on when networks choose to take the handset.
With regards to the Android version supplied, it is currently being decided whether to release it with Version 1.6 and supply an update, or wait and release it with version 2.0/2.1.
It will definately have Android 2.0/2.1 at some point.

Kind Regards,
Liam Wardley

I'm completely torn between this and the Nexus One; I love the voice search and Live Wallpapers of the Nexus (presumably this is down to Android 2.1, and could show up on the X10), but the camera, Time/Mediascape on the X10 seem superb. Decision, decisions.

In the UK

Vodafone
T Mobile
Carphone ware house

Are all saying back end of March, that was last week

All these will be on contract and will allow time for carriers to apply their own branded ROM's.....SIM free models should be available earlier with the stock ROM.

I too mulled over the Nexus one as it looks quite snazzy, but the very average camera (with typical HTC pink hue issues) and iffy support (many people have complained about being passed back and forth between Google and HTC although admittedly SE are not exactly brilliant in this regard either) were negatives for me.

You can import it from the states right now but the US model is missing multitouch although spied shots of the yet to be announced European model did have it. Fingers crossed when the X10 gets Android 2.0+ they'll include the pinching gestures as it's very handy and intuitive.

Hopefully AT&T snatches this one up for a U.S. release soon! I just got an early out of my Verizon contract due to horrible coverage and a ton of service problems over the last month. (sometimes taking 15-20 tries to get a call to go through without a message saying "We're sorry, all circuits are busy at this time.....". ) I REALLY want to pick up this phone, but looks like it may be difficult to do so...

I think this is going to be on Tmobile for the USA as it has the same operating freq as the Tmobile 3G network. That is all I can attest for as I dont have AT&T.

Unless you're living under a rock you would know that the phone doesn't just have tmobile frequency support, but also At&t 3G bands. According to their own site, SE insists that the only USA released X10 will support At&t 3G bands, though they are pretty notorious for never updating information on their own site.

It's like you'll be able to buy an unlocked version of the phone and use it with Tmobile 3G, but I find it difficult to believe that T-Mobile would subsidize the phone along with the large assortment of Android phones it already has in the pipe-line.

On the other hand, a few accounts with no real evidence to back them up have spoken of the X10 in fact being one of the 2 android phone At&t is releasing in upcoming months. Right now we know of Dell Mini 3, Motorola Backflip, and HTC phone (likely the Bravo).

Several corporate employees have discussed recent meetings at the HQ discussing upcoming changes to their networks, new phones etc. All people that have mentioned the meeting have said they played with 2 of the upcoming Android phones that At&t will be carrying. Included in those 2 was the Xperia X10, and backflip. A few even mentioned possible X10 variation for different price points. i.e. dumbed down OS etc for cheaper etc.

Hopefully AT&T gets on the ball and picks this phone up. It would be horrible timing to release it the same time that the next gen iPhone is due for launch. The X10 would get no love then...

If there even is a "new" iphone. Most of the rumors are around iphone for verizon. I mean, there isn't much else they can do to the phone after the 3GS other than increase the ram amount and cpu speed. MSNBC was saying earlier that Apple is definitely in talks with new carriers and At&t was definitely looking at new phone companies. Which makes sense since their exclusivity contract is up this year.
