You need to turn on the orientation in Settings

Settings -> Sound and Display -> Orientation

And don't forget to make a factory reset before you start using the phone.

Just to record. After the update, when I dial *#1234# it appears only PDA and Phone numbers:
PDA:I7500XXIK5
Phone:I7500LVIII3

Seems the CSC number disappeared!
But I do not miss it at all....

CSC disappeared because you did not flash it, so flashing removed your old CSC and did not replace it by Italian.

So now that you have no CSC, Samsung's New PC Studio will not recognize the phone as eligible for firmware updates. You will have to flash next updates (if any) with Odin. Or you can re-flash an update with CSC and give it a chance with NPS, but I wouldn't )

So this is the same i7500L that is being sold in Canada and you have successfully rooted and installed custom image? What did you gain and what did you lose if anything with the custom firmware?

I'm tempted to try this myself but so far your the only one I have read who did this successfully with the i7500L. Was it worth it?

you can't imagine how stressful this update was for me! Thank God this forum exist!

Let me answer all your questions:
1- I did, after a big scare, install the latest firmware to our complicated i7500L model! I did not rooted, just used Odin to update!

2- I can tell all the gain i had, comparing with my old firmware II3:
a) Battery life is much longer than before. I'm using the wireless connection for almost full day and the battery is in 28%.
b) The Android interface is snappier than before. In the II3, the phone used to choke when you were moving the screens up, down and to the sides...
c) The browser is 2x faster than before. It used to take so many time to open a page and now, it's almost the same speed as my ipod touch.
d) The second biggest improvement (battery was the first) is the keyboard sensitive. I can write as fast as I can without any choking symptom.

3- I lost all my operator icons and apps... Thank God!

4- I strongly recommend the update for the Brazilians people. I can't tell you if your original firmware is equal to the Brazilians, but for us it was I huge step!

If you need a help to update yours, please let us know! I can now contribute to the forum!

I got my galaxy phone from Bell cuz they are giving promotion on I7500L. I can confirm that it is I7500BMIK6 baseband version / 1.5 firmware / GT-I7500L model number.

i hope that we can find a way to root / flash rom for this phone.

your firmware is higher than the uk versions. leave it alone

Rastaman-FB: yes, i understand 1.5 firmware is probably the highest for i7500 for now. the feature i want is chinese and t9 input (right now only have french and english), tethering, and the phone run faster (when comparing with my friend's HTC, it seems slower)

im not refering to 1.5 im refering to ik6 firmware
if you are wanting to go to mustmod 2.0 then those things are not sorted out yet and it will never run as fast as a hero as it has less memory
the language features are also not related to all firmwares.

youd probably need to get firmware versions from other vendors from the country you want the language support from

some 3rd pary kb come with language packs

For Bell Canada users (I7500L):
Has anyone unlocked their phone for $75 via Bell? Or perhaps via a 3rd party?
if so...
If it's successfully unlocked... should you then be able to apply various firmwares?

Here's my situation:
I brought my Bell phone to a 3rd party for unlocking. They successfully unlocked the phone, and verified with Rogers SIM. Bell SIM still also works. (Still running BMIK6).

I go home and without fully thinking things thru, do a full II5 update, then L3 update... etc... Haven't been able to get Bell voice or data since.

As it sits right now, with the L3 Hong/Kong firmware, I'm able to get voice (haven't tried data) with a Rogers sim.

My bell sim does not find any network.

Demo sim @ Bell store does the same as my own personal sim.

Have I bricked my phone by changing the AMSS portion?
Why would a Rogers sim work, and not a Bell?

hey manoccs, I am the other Canada Bell user.
I haven't dare to update the ROM after reading this thread as our ROM (BMIK6) is pretty high already.

For the difference between Roger and Bell, for what I understand, Bell is saying their network doesn't support all SIM card cell phone, and customer should check with their website first. Base on the fact their new network is for 3G, my guess is they may just have the 3G network for a particular freq or something.

I don't have much knowledge on cell phone. So may be I am wrong...

I know the phone is 100% compatible with Bell because I bought it from them originally... only had it unlocked by a 3rd party.

SO... my unlocker was also unable to get voice/data working on the Bell sim card aswell.

I understand if I've bricked by phone because I overwrote the original Bell AMSS portion of the firmware... but then why do Rogers SIM cards work?

Bell may only be able to work with their amss. You've not bricked it, it's just that Bell sim cards will probably never work again in your phone.

Interestingly. I suspect rogers is using a different band than bell.

The difference between your AMSS (7500L and the galaxy 7500 one is the frequency bands supported. Try typing *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer and playing with the WCDMA, CDMA etc options. They may map to something different on your phone.

I suspect you may need to enable the debug interface and use qmat to switch the frequency support.

It appears that Bell/Rogers/Telus use the same 850 & 1900 UMTS bands.

The dialer command you recommended gives me phone info, battery info, battery history, usage stats.

Under phone info --> 'set preferred network type'... I can choose:
wcdma preferred
gsm only
wcdma only
unknown

Does any of this info help?

I suspect that rogers in that area had 1900 towers (which the 7500 AMSS supports), but bell had 850 towers (which the 7500 AMSS doesnt support).

Although both networks use 850/1900, it would depend on your location which frequency was in use.

qmat has a provisioning tool that lets u select the bands. Its a qualcomm tool which u'll need to find _somewhere_

Now... Not sure where to begin with this app..
Under hardware forensics--> use mobile ports, there's a section called CDMA that appears to have the fields I'm looking for. (Preferred mode... preferred channel A/B etc)

Can anyone tell if I'm on the right track with this? Any recommended guides/documentation/forums that might help?

...another thought... Are there any AMSS files in circulation that use the 850 band? ...or is there a way to edit the AMSS file to support my needs, then reload the firmware?
