Google sports calendars STILL do not sync with android phone

I just added a bunch of calendars today and noticed they dont sync or even show up to be able to sync.. I guess this has been a problem for a long time? Lol..

I guess its back to Mysportscal.com. =( I really liked the google ones since they are dynamic and update scores after the game is over...

While not optimal, I got around this by adding the desired google calendar (in my case for the Denver Broncos) and then from the PC you can click on each date and "copy to my calendar." Some minor formatting is then needed.

This is manageable for a typical NFL season, but for MLB or other sports could be quite a task.

Ya if I was just an NFL fan I would manually do it. I added Chicago Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks, Fire, Baltimore Ravens, NY Rangers, Arsenal FC, and The Blackburn Rovers. Half the season would be over by the time I was finished :( I didn't know yahoo updates after the games tho. So thats a nice alternative.

i agree, this is a pain in the ass. but since i got mlb at bat i'm not worried about my baseball team's schedule. there are too many games to have show up in my calendar. on the other hand, i want my football team's schedule in my calendar. and that's easy. 16 games, couldn't be easier. i don't need EVERY baseball game showing up in my calendar.

I don't think it's a problem with Sports Calenders per se, it's calenders that only come in HTML format. Most calenders come in XML and iCAL too and these do sync to the phone, you just have to find a site that has a calender for your team in one of those formats, and import that into Google Calender, it will then sync to you phone fine.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but sigh... yet another year has lapsed. Is there any way to get the attention of Google to fix this???

It isn't a Google problem. There is nothing they can do. It's a licensing issue. Haven't you noticed how professional sports have a monopoly, they know it, and they choose to dick around their customers because of it?

Want to watch all the NFL games during the season? Oh, you can't do that with normal TV you have to buy the football package. Wait, you're a baseball fan too? Why not buy the MLB package. And here, buy another subscription to watch MLB games on your phone, you can get all the games! (All the games?) Well, all the games that aren't blacked out because they are being broadcast on Fox on Saturday on the West coast, so you just have to fly to California to catch your local team...

Complaining to Google won't do any good.

Like I said I don't think it is a licencing issue - you can import Yahoo calenders into your Google Calender and they go across to the phone fine - I've just this second pulled the Atlanta Braves schedule into my phone, and it took like 2 minutes to find and import. The difference is once they're in Google Calender, the Google ones are HTML only, whereas the Yahoo ones are HTML, XML and iCAL. I'm convinced the problem is that HTML only calenders are not syncable.

I don't see what the big deal is anyway, the Yahoo ones are just as good, can be imported into Google and DO sync. I suggest the guy above who follows a bunch of teams takes a look at Yahoo and see if he can find his teams there. I don't think they do Soccer calenders though, so you'll have to find somewhere else for your Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers calenders (check their websites, because I know Spurs offer a calender on theirs that syncs to the phone).

So it's not possible that Yahoo, a different company, signed a different licensing agreement?

Note, if you go here and click on Sports, it says quite clearly that Google calendars cannot be synced.

Why would Google, a company that is built on sharing data, and that has stressed the ability to import and export personal data (unlike, say, Facebook) block the ability to sync these calendars if legally allowed? What would be their reasoning?

There are posts, including some from a Google employee, stating it's a licensing issue:

Google not syning all calendars to iPhone - Google Mobile Help

Google does not let me select new "sports calendar" to sync with on my iPhone 3.0. - Google Mobile Help

iPhone - Google sync, not all calendars appear? - Google Mobile Help

When will Google get the Sports Calendars to sync with my Android G2 'phone? - Calendar Help

I'm sure there's more if you care to spend more than 2 minutes searching.
