The battery life is not what you would like (is it ever? see my post re extra ones) but this phone is UNREAL!

Just open the 3D gallery, start a video and hand it to anyone.........they are gobsmacked! Then remind them they are not wearing 3D glasses and they are flabbergasted :)
They all want one NOW.

The phone is fast and responsive, it is so "different" it will be a HUGE success.

That's great! Did you try out any 3D games? Nova 3D?

Yes, but I'm not a gamer tbh, it's the depth of the 3D that is so impressive.

You asked about things "popping out" and yes some stuff does, but the majority of 3D is made up by depth (beyond the surface of the screen) the pop outs are there (there is one demo video of some guy on a native sea canoe paddling in huge waves, his paddles handle suddenly shoots out at you) and they are impressive too, but mostly its depth that creates the excellent 3D experience.

IPhone owners are going to HATE this phone, I showed it to a guy today who has only had his iPhone 4 for 2 weeks, he was both amazed at the LG and devastated he had taken out the iPhone contract. He plans to try and get out of the contract and get the Optimus 3D asap :)

Do you think the 3D is so good that it's revolutionary for a mobile device? Or it's just an evolution?

It's revolutionary, I've NEVER seen such an overwhelming positive response to technology.

I didn't set out to get a 3D phone, like most people I thought it was some sort of gimmick. I just wanted a fast up to date Android device that was a value for money purchase. I read about the O3D and it looked like it might be that "value" phone because LG is not a manufacturer with a "fan base" (yet ;-) ). I was not convinced about the 3D "stuff" and was NEVER going to buy one unless I'd actually tried one out.

Try this phone.......HAVE TO GET THIS PHONE, it was like that for me and anyone I've shown it to.

Hi again, 2 new bits of info.

Firstly, scratch what I said about the "popping out" stuff, I must have been distracted when watching the video (in the gallery it has 2 dolphins) with the guy and the canoe. Just after that there is a Barracuda swimming, IT COMES RIGHT OUT OF THE SCREEN and swims around in front of your nose!

Secondly, my wife has resisted getting a new phone since her contract ended 3 months ago, her O3D arrives tomorrow!

Game changer, no question. If you haven't seen this phone yet wait, just wait, it's worth it.

Never tried a 3D theme park ride, but its as good if not better than 3D at the cinema with the silly glasses!

Dude this sounds so insane! The Evo 3D NEVER did any pop out that looked like that! I think that at least for the next year, the LG Optimis 3D will be the new iPhone.

well you must perceive pop out different to me,yes the depth is great but theres not much pop out effect that i can see, certainly no barracuda leaving the screen!
great phone and fantastic picture though, cant see anyone being dissapointed....unless they are expecting massive pop out effects.

Wait so which one of you is right? I have the Evo 3D and am disappointed at the lack of pop out 3D effects. I will end up getting the Thrill regardless because of carrier choice, but I was hoping it would have some kind of noticeable 3D advantage!

So which is it? Does it have pop out 3D effects or not?

depends on eyesight and comprehension i guess but i certainly dont see a unbeleivable pop out effect, maybe i am doing something wrong?
yes its got fantastic depth and there is slight pop out at times but to see something swimming round your nose.........dont think so.
i have a 3d plasma and yes the pop out is great, the phone has great 3d depth but i would say the pop out effect isnt quite there yet on this kind of device.
purely my opinion of course so go and try one out in the store before you buy it.

Would you say your 3DTV's pop out is comparable to an amusement park ride's 3D effect?

I went to a Best Buy and i saw a Samsug 3DTV playing Monsters vs Aliens and that was the first time I saw depth as 3D. I didn't know about the new depth thing so the first thing I thought was "this isn't 3D, it looks stupid and sucks." Now I appreciate depth, but I still say it's not as good as pop out. IMO proper 3D is pop out, depth can add to it, but it sure as heck can't replace it. I was hoping this phone would have that proper 3D, the kind I see on Spiderman Ride at Universal Studios. The GOOD kind. But now...im not sure...

yes i would say the plasma tv is comparable to anything else available.

all depends on content thats being played.also its unfair comparing a few hundred

got to be a 5.
there is a documentary by brian may about stereoscopic history called a brief history of stereoscopic vision or something like that,if you get chance then watch it as it goes into the directors minds about the way they are now directing the 3d films, they are moving away from pop out and more into immersion, avatar being a great example.
dont get me wrong there is some pop out but no way do you have fish swimming round your nose so just dont expect that, its a 4" screen and does a fantastic job at giving a 3d picture.

Ok, fine. On the same scale, what would you say the 3DTV plasma is?

haha, think you will find thats false advertising . the tv is a samsung 50" and i also have a acer 3d projector, both systems give great effect.
i have allways had iphones since the first one was introduced but i am now fed up off dropped calls and forever repeating what i say because the person i am talking to cant hear me due to break up,so i decided to change to a android device,it just so happens when i went to the shop that they had this lg on display and it was impressive enough for me to buy it there and then.
bottom line is its a mobile device so cant compare it to a 50" plasma or 120" projected image...........phonecalls are crystal clear so the 3d is a bonus for me!!

Sounds like your impressed with the phone.

Could you please give a real review on how good the screen is in daylight and how good the external speaker is please.

I really want this phone as my next but am really disappointed with the above two problems on my HTC Desire.

Hope the Optimus doesn't fall down on such small but(well to me anyway) important details.

Thanks

well i am certainly impressed by comparison to the iphone 4 thats for sure.
the speaker is extremely clear and loud, the screen in daylight isnt as clear as the iphone,i cant say about in the sunshine as yet because i live in manchester uk and still waiting for some !!
overall i think its probably worth the money it costs,i am dissapointed at how complicated it is to set anything up compared to the iphone but thats obviously my failing as i am not used to android, hardly the phones fault.
oh and the battery is garbage at the moment, doesnt even last a full day so i think i have to set things up better,or maybe i am playing to much with it.
seem to be dropping bluetooth connection in the car a bit to regular for my liking also.
all in all i will be happy when everything settles down.

The pop out effects are really variable. To get the best effect have the brightness up, hold the phone as close as you can focus. Lying in bed in the dark with the phone close in is wicked! The darkness works like your in a cinema. The lion fish also comes out of the coral sea movie, superb. Some people do see more depth than others, bright lights and a dim screen ain't as good either.

Just two more questions:
1. So in the conditions that you just listed, you saw stuff popping out the screen, no doubt about it, completely sure that that's what you saw?

2. If you've ever seen the 3DS in action, would you saw the 3D on the Optimus 3D is just as good if not better?

To me the 3DS effectively made me not see the screen when playing a game. The screen literally acted as a window. On my Evo 3D I see the screen, I see the depth behind the screen and if I see that little bit of pop out I see it in front of the screen.
