I have received a Seidio Convert case for my 3VO to review.

What is in the box:
Hard plastic inner case
Rubber outside
Hard plastic clip
Holster
1 Screen protector

Initial thoughts:

The screen protector given is their ultimate screen guard. basically a static screen protector. I an not good at applying these, i always get bubbles that will not come out. Would have thought that Seidio would have gone the way of other case makers and would have included screen protector as part of the case and not an add on.

Instillation:
Very easy, similar to the convert case i had for the OG EVO (HAHA). Slide on hard inner case, put on rubber outer case, apply outer plastic clip, and you are done.

EcddRNfNJWWAT29D8cwKMnziJh0rqosVWRoDYnSsjr8

Holster:

Fits face in only. Lock on clip to keep phone in holster. Belt clip swivels for multiple options to wear.

Camera Protection:
As with the EVO case, there is a flap to cover the camera. This time, there is a tab at the top to pull out the flap. However with sausage fingers like mine, still a little difficult. Also, the flap stays down on the back of the case better than with the EVO, so there are improvements.

Thoughts so far:

Not a fan of the screen protector, however, 3d is very watchable with this screen protector, almost a little easier to view.

Rubber case is not slick and stays place when putting in and pulling out of pocket. Camera cover and charging cover are relatively easy to use. 3d switch, camera button, power button and volume rocker are easy to use.

More to follow with use over the weekend.

Initial rating 7.5/10

Why do you say you aren't a fan of the screen protector?
The reason why i dont like these style screen protectors isnt because they dont protect the screen, but because no matter how many i have put on since my plam pre and evo 4g i can either never get all the bubbles out or get a little piece of dirt under them. they do a good job protecting the screen but just dont ever fit right for me. i prefer the phantom skinz

Part I

Hey guys, recently I was contacted by Seidio and given a chance to review their Convert combo for the EVO 3D. They sent out the case last week, and I received it on Monday, June 27th. I've been playing around with it, and here are my findings.

Packaging:
It came in a little box delivered by Fedex. There was the case/holster in its packaging, a little card advertising some of their products, with a 10% off code for your next purchase on the back.

The plastic container contains a plastic sleeve with one ultraclear screen protector, a Seidio Surface case for the EVO 3D, a rubber case to wrap outside of the Surface case, a plastic skeleton to go outside of the rubber case, and finally the plastic belt clip/holster.

You can see the pictures below:

Preliminary Feel:
Before putting any of the products on, the individual parts feel ok. I checked the packaging and each part to make sure there wasn’t anything looking out of the ordinary, to make sure I didn’t receive a defective unit and that nothing was damaged during shipping. So far so good!

IMG_1894.jpg

You can see all the pieces of the case here.

The Phone:
First things first, here’s my brand new EVO 3D, without any case or screen protectors. You can see the size, the thickness compared to my USB and keycap, as well as what the screen looks like without any screen protector on. The USB is a Patriot XPorter, and the keycap is a standard key from my Deck Legend keyboard.

IMG_1902.jpg

IMG_1905.jpg

Note the 3vo does not lie perfectly flat by itself.

Screen Protector:
As stated previously, it’s the ultra-clear variant (don’t know if Seidio sells any other kind), and it covers the entire screen and the capacitive buttons. You can read the details in the picture below. The packet contained the screen protector, a microfiber cloth, and a little application card, which is just a small piece of cardboard with straight edges.

IMG_1906.jpg

IMG_1907.jpg

It took me about 5 minutes to apply the screen protector. I found it easiest to line up the upper edge with the top of the screen, and then slowly press down the screen protector by bending it. At somewhere past the midpoint of the screen, it’ll become hard to hold on to the screen protector without shifting it. At this point I simply let go and let it fall on the screen. If you’ve lined up the top right, it’ll fall on the screen perfectly, and there shouldn’t be any air bubbles. Then use the application card to scrape out any air bubbles if necessary.

The screen protector itself works very well. I cannot tell the difference between before and after putting it on with the screen on or off. This is indoors though, I haven’t gotten a chance to look at it outdoors and see if it does remove some of the glare. I took 3 pictures of the phone w/o the screen protector, and 3 pictures of the phone with it on and you can see them below. The screen protector also feels very good and slick. It doesn’t feel quite as good as the bare screen that’s clean, but definitely better than that bare screen that’s full of fingerprints. The screen protector is also much better at resisting smudges and fingerprints, so you don’t have to wipe it every 5 minutes.

No screen protector:

With screen protector:

Note: the phone was on max brightness for all of these pictures

Seido Surface Case:
The Surface case is made of plastic and comes in 2 pieces. The top and bottom pieces both slide on to the phone and connect by a little piece of latch on the bottom half of the case. The case feels sturdy, and the outside texture is that of smooth rubber but not slick like hard plastic. So it’s not too grippy, but not so slippery that it slides out of your hand. The inside of the case is lined with a felt like material, so it will not scratch the phone.

IMG_1900.jpg

IMG_1901.jpg

Before I put the case on the phone, I tried putting both pieces together by themselves and was surprised to find that the resulting case was very loose; It barely stayed together. But once I put the case on the phone, the result was very sturdy and both pieces stayed on tight. That’s just how it was designed, so don’t worry if you piece the case together w/o the phone and it feels like it’s going to fall apart ;)

Once on the phone, the case is very form fitting, and does not add much bulk. The case raises the phone just enough on the front so that the screen is barely off the surface and just enough on the back so that the camera will not make contact with a level surface.

IMG_1926.jpg

Seidio also left just enough space around the camera ring so that you could still see the red paint and that the speaker is not blocked. Very good attention to detail :) The case did not block any ports/buttons, and I still found all of the buttons easy to press. If I had to nitpick, it blocks part of the 2D/3D label on the phone, but you can still kinda read it. This would make a nice slim case to carry in the pocket. Although one concern I do have that I did not get to test is whether this makes the phone significantly hotter due to the felt like material on the inside of the case.

I don't know what this little hole is for, but Seidio has made a cutout on it on their case, so the attention to detail is awesome.

Now that is what I will call a review!!!! Excellent work. They should send you a check with the next case. Still prefer my Otterbox, but it is on the list for cases I would like to try. Thank you for your time and effort.

That would be nice, but it could also be called bribery ;)

NCH

Nice.... I already have an otterbox commuter but I'm sure if I ever feel like getting something else I will keep this in mind

I've never tried the Otterbox cases, but I'm sure they are nice as well.

The rubber case/plastic exoskeleton is a bit too big for me just carrying it around in my pocket unless I'm wearing gym shorts or loose fitting clothing. But the Surface case is something I would use on a daily basis if I wanted to carry my phone in my pocket.

I previously had an Innocase Active case on my EVO 4G which I loved. So I knew I would love the one for the EVO 3D. Best phone put there and best case for the phone. The Innocase Active comes in 2 parts a black silicone cover and then a hard plastic that goes over the silicone. Comes in several colors and Purple is my favorite which I had on my 4G.

First you put on the black silicone which feels nice in your hand. There is an opening for the 2D/3D slider switch and the camera button is covered which is nice. Very easy to turn volume up and down on the sides. Top of the phone has an opening for a headphone jack and it's very easy to turn the phone on and off the power button is not hard to push like on some cases. Cut out on the side of course to charge the phone. The black silicone does attract a little lint and dust but I just wipe it off it's not that big of a deal to me and wouldn't stop me from getting this case. This covers your whole phone from top to bottom which is what I like. Some cases have open spots across the front on the top and bottom and this covers it all nicely all around the front of the phone.

After the black silicone is on there is a hard shell that fits over the black silicone. It snaps on each corner and on the sides of the phone to protect your phone quit well. For some reason I just love the feel of this in my hand. It doesn't make the phone to bulky looking or big feeling. It has a nice grip on the sides and feels great when holding in my hand. I think it's easier to text ,email or surf the web holding the phone with the case on. Just feels really nice in the hand and isn't too heavy feeling. Camera is exposed in the back but the case is lifted up in the back where the camera is so laying it on it's back won't hurt the camera.

I highly recommend this case for your EVO 3D and can tell you it will protect your phone well. I dropped my EVO 4G once with the Active case on it and my phone was fine not one messed up spot on my phone. I don't have any cons about this case except the little but of dust and lint I wipe off of the black silicone. Other than that I think this case is great and protects your phone really well and feels great in the hand while talking surfing the web or doing whatever it is your doing on your phone. I used all Seidio on my last phone and will continue to buy Siedio products. They stand behind there products and if there is a problem they will take care of it for you.

Same here my 4G was on my lap and I got out of car and it hit the concrete. My phone was fine but the side of my Active got messed up the purple chipped off and you could see black but I still used it cause I loved the way it felt in my hand. I love the one for the 3D it's great. I hope I don't drop my phone. I kind of wish I had the holster now just to clip it on to my purse but it's ok I don't need it. I'm using a Calrivue clear screen protector. But my friend he got to review the convert combo with holster and it came with a protector but he already had the Carivue one on. But he loves the convert too it's more of a guy case.

Jealous, mine arrived in the mailroom at work but I had already left. I just need a cleartouch screen protector from Boxwave and I will be all set. The Otterbox case is kewl but too sang big. Dropped my 4G on the concrete. Active case performed well. No scratches and no damages.

Hello all. I have been given an early chance to review the Seidio Active Case for the Evo 3D. I have included all my observations and thoughts below as well as a link to pictures of the case.
https://picasaweb.google.com/113545061230245292170/ActiveSeidioCasePictures#

First impressions:
The skin and skeleton that make up the Seidio Active Case strike me as well made. I had initially thought the unique design of the case would make certain ways of handling the phone uncomfortable. However, whether held in portrait or landscape, the phone in this case is comfortable in the hand.

Protection:
The Active Case two piece design provides good protection for the phone. The design allows the phone to be set down on either front or back as actual surface of the phone will not touch on any level surface. There is roughly a millimeter or so of depth here. The surrounding layer of silicon sleeve skin and rubberized coated skeleton physically covers and protects everything else, with the exception of a few openings noted below. The skeleton portion has six ‘clips’ that attach it to the rubberized skin at the corners and at midpoints on each side of the case. These protect the phone at key spots that, in my experience, are some of the first spots hit when the phone is dropped.

Visual and Tactile impressions:
There are several different colors of skeleton to choose to go along with the black skin. I chose a black skeleton to keep it as close looking to stock while giving my phone the protection it deserves. The skin portion that first goes onto the phone is a silicone sleeve. The skeleton is made of a smooth rubberized coating material that doesn’t slip in the hand. The skeleton is placed over top of the skin. This combination gives the phone a unique look that looks good and feels good in the hands.

Functionality:
The Active case surrounds the entire phone and covers some parts while leaving openings to others. There are openings for the charger/HDMI port, 2D/3D switch, headphones and a tiny hole at the bottom for those whom wish to attach a lanyard. The power button, camera button and volume rocker are all covered. The use of the phone was not hindered in any way when needing to access any of the parts noted above.

Connectivity:
During phone calls, there was no signal loss and phone calls have the same quality as without the case. Speed tests of data connections via Speedtest.net are on par with previous tests. Bluetooth connections also work properly with no distortion.

Final thoughts:
As a daily use case, this is an excellent choice. It is well protected while adding very little in the way of weight or size. The looks and feel of the case are aesthetically pleasing while not interfering with the Evo 3D use and functionality.

If anyone has any questions, ask away :)

REVIEW: SEIDIO ACTIVE CASE!

So I wanted to start out this review by saying, that when I originally bought my Evo 3D, I had purchased an Otterbox case which they sell at Sprint for it as well. I am a bit neurotic when it comes to my phones and always have to have them protected. I had the Otterbox on till the day I received my Seidio Active case from the great people of Seidio to try out. To be honest, I was actually going to use the Seidio case for a week and then go back to the Otterbox, but actually I just got back from Sprint, I just returned the Otterbox.
I have to say that in my opinion this Seidio case has the Otterbox beat hands down. The grooves that the Active case has for your fingers and the material they use for the silicone underlay just feel better. I compared the Otterbox to the Active case and when it comes to size, the Otterbox in my views is bigger and bulkier, but it seems that the Seidio case more protection. The silicone on the Otterbox feels like its half the amount used on the Active case, it’s a flimsier feel then Seidio’s. Now you would think because the Seidio case is smaller, it would give you less protection, but I feel that my phone is much more protected.
Another benefit with the size of the Seidio Active case, is that it feels much better in the pocket, however with both phones there is a bit of resistance when taking it from the pocket due to the silicone, but it happens with all silicone based cases. The only real downside I have seen with the Active case when using it for the past couple of days is that the silicone attracts lent from your pocket, but can easily removed with a wipe of a cloth.
The main thing that I am happy about, and have read in other reviews of the case is the protection the case provides to the camera. I had recently bought a TPU case from online and returned it immediately after seeing that the case lined perfectly with the camera casing, leaving it open to scratches and marks.
Another big thing that is a benefit with this case, compared to the Otterbox, is that all the cut outs for the power button and charging ports line up perfectly. I noticed that on the headphone jack on my Otterbox it was cut out incorrectly leaving me to have to jam the headphone jack into place. Not with the Active case, everything lines up perfectly. The silicone is cut to an exact precision. I know that the ports don’t have a cover like the Otterbox, but I actually prefer this, its an easy access and most of the time, I am prepared for those covers to break off in time, giving the phone a cheap look.
I know that some are disappointed that the case doesn’t come with a built in screen protector like the Otterbox but not I. I love that it doesn’t, I feel that the built in protectors have a more rubbery feel to them then other protectors. I would personally recommend the Screen Guards from Seidio; they are smooth like glass and fit to a tee.
In an overall judgment I give the phone a 10/10. There is not one thing I would change about this case, I love it more then anything. It looks great and feels even better. I would highly recommend this case to anyone who is in the market for a new case. Not only are you buying a great case, you are buying it from a great company that is willing to go that extra mile and help you out when it is needed, whether it is a return or replacement, and this type of customer service just gives me that little extra push to buy Seidio then any other company.

I have purchased 5 Seidio cases and added a convert case for the "rugged" protection. Dropped once from 30" the corner of the skinny plastic skeleton snapped off (case is useless). Called customer support (two weeks out of at the time 6 month warranty). My brothers active case was broken after 4 months dropped getting out of car (wasn't completely secured in holster). Seidio has 1 year warranties now (too little too late). I have owned multiple otterbox holsters. One issue concerning the rubber portion, called customer support received it three days later. And I dropped my old blackberry 15' to a concrete driveway. Phone rebooted but case and phone perfect! Amazing. My experience with Seidio is their lack of durability compared to my Otterbox experiences. No product is perfect. What seperates companies is their customer service/support after the sale. My .02.

Seidio...NEVER AGAIN

I'm an OTTERBOX FAN.

If someone wants holsters or parts (seidio) for Evo 4G I have many I will sell dirt cheap. :) Just PM me.
