Interstate Exit App

Does anyone know of a way to find out what services are available on up coming interstate exits? I looked around Google Maps and Sprint Navigation and didn't see anything. For example, I would like to have an app tell me, Exit 116 is 20 miles away and it has Shell / Exxon / Texaco gas, McDonald's / Wendy's / Sonic, etc.

Thanks

The popular iPhone app, iExit, will soon be ported to Android. iExit for iPhone detects if you're on/off the interstate, what direction you're going, and displays up to 150 exits ahead. It easily communicates which of those upcoming exits contain your favorite chains, whether you're looking for a single chain or multiple. It integrates well with Google Maps and is very customizable.

The current estimate is to have iExit 1.0 for Android available for download by the end of September.

Just checking back... Hope everything is going well on the Android client. Is the end of September still the target date to have it released?

Bump, looks like they finally released it.

App is huge: apk is 26MB (but installs to SD card), plus the app data is an additional 26MB (which CAN'T be moved the SD card!)

Thanks. I tried downloading the app, but the download gets stuck at 66%. I am on wifi and can access data with other apps, so I know it isn't a data connection problem. I also checked and my internal memory shows 165 megs free, so that shouldn't be a problem to download the app.

Any suggestions?

Yup, my download failed also, but at 99%....how frustrating is that?

This app sounds like it has great promise. However, it seems that his port form iPhone to Android is currently riddled with issues. I read the reviews on the market and from the sounds of things it's:

1) Too large (27 MB)
2) Can't be moved to the SD card (that's a problem for phones with limited internal storage)
3) It's slow
4) Force closes when going from list view to the map

I would guess these types of things aren't uncommon when first introducing an app that's been ported over from another platform. However, it probably should have been released as a beta (it is currently free, however). At least when releasing as a beta people understand that bugs will be present and they have the opportunity to respond to the developer with feedback that they can then address.

At least by appearance this looks like the developer has released a "final" GA version and it's obviously not ready for GA just yet.

Good concept and I can definitely see usefulness in this application. Hopefully he addresses the outstanding issues in a new release soon. I would definitely get this application once the above issues are hashed out.

Very True, not 54 MB. I guess that was my point also. Google maps just needs to add the exit grouping to their app and there will be no need to have an outside add-on to do it. I assume they would do it so that this data is not local to the phone as I assume it is on this app. This should not be a problem if driving on an Interstate as my experience has been that most of them have good phone service. It could be a problem depending upon your carrier, but again, that is one of the weaknesses as well as strengths of google maps.

In a similar, but different vein, anyone know how to find the nearest Rest Area's in Android? On my Garmin iQue 3600, I could search for Rest Areas, was a category. I would like to do same with the Google Maps/Places system. Has got to be a way.

You know, the kids says, "I ahve to go to the bathroom" - I can determine if I need to get off at the next exit, or if there's a rest area in 10 miles.

Found this - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.allstays.app.reststops&feature=related_apps - But I don't want an app, just a way to search (or a free app)
