Gingerbread 2.3 was here, then gone, now it's back

Can someone point me to the leaked version from May? Does it work well? Has anyone had any issues with it? If not, I don't mind rooting again and flashing a 2.3 rom.

The Inc2 has a support PDF available showing a Gingerbread update. The only thing up for the Inc is the last interim update (VCast, etc).

IMO, I think Evan is confused on which Incredible is getting the update tomorrow. The Incredible 2 looks all but certain to get gingerbread tomorrow

The OG Incredible will eventually get a Gingerbread update but they probably don't have it 100% complete yet. While this clearly speculation on my part, anyone that played with the leak knows how unimpressive it was. If that's the final build - Gingerbread running atop Sense 1.0 - then who cares?

The Incredible 2 is the primary device Verizon supports. It will get the update treatment first, then the OG Incredible. Perhaps August / September is the more realistic timeframe.

Honestly I was betting on the Bunnies with their inherent "cute" factor but alas it seems the dingos weren't swayed.

honestly, though I would amazed if Verizon pushed both dinc and dinc2 updates on the same day. Besides the the complications involved in trying to push 2 at once, but also two named almost exactly the same? It would a support persons worse nightmare.

And I know Verizon is sitting on the update because HTC is probably finished with it and they (Verizon) are dicking around trying to make their bloatware work with it now.

"Fragmentation of the OS" is a illusion spread by iPhone fanboys. It doesn't mean anything. There is nothing in the update that will make or break it compared to 2.2 we are currently running.

It sounds like you might be better served by a closed system like iOS. Android is about choice and as such different phones getting updates at different times is part of the deal.

I love my Incredible. I would definitely buy another HTC product, except a LTE device (I'll be dead last to get LTE service). I am waiting for a 3g dual core HTC device on Verizon (like the Sensation).

The long wait for the upgrade is because HTC has to get Sense to work with it (Motoblur for Motorola). This is also the reason there will be no more upgrades for the Incredible as HTC will not support it not Verizon. You have two options if you want infinite upgrades. Either go with an iPhone or get one of the Nexus phones which don't have the proprietary interface just the Android OS. I myself plan on getting an iPhone in December on a family plan, that way I can still have my droid and an iPhone so best of both worlds. Or maybe a Nexus I'm still not sure, maybe both.

Folks, the funny part is how this thread always ends up making people mad at HTC, Verizon, and Android.

You bought your phone, mostly likely with eclair, as is. You were never promised updates. Yet, you are going to get Gingerbread (the 2nd! OS update). If you think you are entitled to an update, why? The phone is EOL right now, as expected in this marketplace. HTC and Verizon don't OWE us an update, yet we are getting it.

Also, HTC is slower than Motorola. The Moto Android ALWAYS get their updates first. Of course, they also usually get stopped or have to be updated later to fix something.

Verizon is slower than Sprint and others. However, the Sprint updates are usually flawed massively as well.

Bottom line, it will take longer for us to get our updates than Moto and other carriers, but ours will be more likely to be good as is first try. (if you are really STILL frustrated, ask a Samsung owner...lol)

Now, I know some people don't want to root. I was one of them. However, we are lucky to be getting gingerbread, so why exactly are we upset. I ended up rooting, and I love it. I have gingerbread, but I read this thread for the enjoyment and nostalgia from Froyo thread.

Now, Froyo brought us flash. It also was coupled with a HTC update that made my phone function correctly. It is very important. I dont see gingerbread as nearly as important for anyone. Battery life on gingerbread isnt so much better that it will be huge for you. For better battery for those who don't want to root (the best option for this), I would suggest a second battery, a bigger battery, or a combo of smart management/juice defender.

Here are my final recommendations:

1. Dont call HTC. They know nothing. They hand it off to Verizon and are done with it. They wont tell you anything correct, even if they knew.

2. Don't call Verizon. Until the PDF is on the website, NOONE at Verizon can give you a 100% correct answer. In fact Evan is more likely (whether an employee or not) to give you something accurate out of sheer luck.

3. Relax, your phone was awesome on eclair, better on froyo, and slightly improved on gingerbread, when it comes.

4. I love those who threaten to go to iPhone. No offense, who really cares. We dont all get some profit pyramid style from others owning the Incredible. We wont miss you at the family reunions (we dont have any). If you have the Incredible and want to switch, I hope you enjoy your new phone. May I suggest you go to message boards for the other phones and read up. You might find more frustration elsewhere.... maybe or maybe not.

Anyway, I am taking a break from doing other things. Sorry to ramble.

Updates are pushed out when they are ready. Simple as that.

Unless you yourself have a direct line into Verizon you have no clue when exactly the latest update will be released. (Even then it would just be an estimate, prone to delays)

This reminds me of the Eris leak thread(s). Everyone wanted Eclair, couldn't wait to brick their phones in order to be up on the latest and greatest. Froyo is still the primary OS on Android phones, followed by Gingerbread. As more devices are released with Gingerbread pre-installed that figure will change. And as we all know by now, another version of the OS will be rearing its ugly head soon after.

Since Android isn't a one or two device ecosystem, there is going to be a significant difference in the lead-times for updates on each device. If you want fewer updates and device choices, try another OS. Android is about choice, and with that sentiment the good comes with the bad. The bad is that you can't predict when (or if) an update will come to your phone. You buy the phone for what it is now, hope for the best and deal with it. If it's dev-friendly, odds are root access will be achieved and you might be able to tweak the device some which will extend the life of the phone.

Next thing you know we'll be told that the update will be coming in a plain 4' cube cardboard box from Fed-Ex with "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL FURTHER INSTRUCTION" printed on red and black tape covering it. (For those old timers who remember waiting for the actual phone.)
