hello all....i recently purchased a moment and am very unhappy without the led light to alert you of a missed messege. i thought it like the real keyboard plus touch screen on the moment....i do a lot of texting play no games and make calls and get email...can u please help me decide if i should switch to the hero? im just worried about the virtual keyboard..thanks!

you need to watch youtube videos on the hero's virtual keyboard....

90% say.. it is one of the best out there...
and you will be surprised how it helps you!

I have even seen some reviews say.. it is better than some physical keyboards.

On the NO LED issue....
I dont know what to tell you...If the Moment dont have it, then it dont have it! Nothing anybody can do about bad design!

I, too bought the Moment, thinking it would be better. My previous phone was a BBerry Curve. When in the car, I use Bluetooth for "hands-free" phone calls, and I couldn't get the Moment to automatically connect when I was in the car. I sent the Moment back and got the Hero. While I miss the slide out keyboard (a little), I like the Hero much better.

Good luck !!

If I remember correctly, the Moment devs are working on getting lights to flash for notifications. But there's so many other issues with the thing that you have to download a custom kernel for everything to work right. Even the new update seems to have caused more issues than it fixed. Samsung doesn't seem to do a very good job of supporting their phones

I had the Moment until today. I exchanged it for the Hero. I got the Moment because of the keyboard because I was having a hard time with the virtual keyboard on the moment and the hero but I'd rather have the LED flash than the keyboard. With enough practice I am sure I will get the hang of it, but I don't do a lot of texting or surfing so it may be hard for someone who does do a lot of texting, but they say practice makes perfect
It was a big deal to me about the LED notification. When in a place where I want my phone silent, but I want to have visual notification the Moment did not fit that bill. I know some of you think that this is a stupid reason or a deal breaker but we all have opinions and preferences. I do think it was something Samsung should have had on this phone. Most of all of the phones on the market have the LED notification even the older ones have it.
I don't know if this 2.1 update will even include the fix for this, there is an LED light right next to the Sprint Logo along with the sensor, you can see it, but not to even have the home/menu/back keys to light up on missed calls and alerts was beyond me. I didn't want to take the chance and wait it out because my 30 days probably would pass before the upgrade would even be available.

I love virtual keyboards so with that out of the way I usually like landscape VKs and could never stand the portrait qwerty's.
Now having said that I use the Hero's portrait qwerty almost exclusively, and I text like a 14 year old girl.

So in my opinion give the Hero's keyboard a decent trial period and I think you too will fall in love with it.

Well, my Mom's Moment has put her on the other side of the world at the moment, in India. Whether I turn GPS on, or just let it use the network to determine location, it still says she's in India.

Granted, the new update is supposed to fix that, no idea if it did or not. I'd have to take the phone an hour west to get to the nearest place with the update, so she's gotta wait another week or two until they push the update OTA.

My experience with the Moment was not a good one. My work bought me the phone, which i thought was pretty cool, because they werent cheap and tried to get me a "boring" phone. But anyway, i had the moment for almost 2 weeks, i was never happy with it. I never liked the feel of it. the slide out kb just felt cheap and i could see it getting worn out quick. The phone itself is a bit quicker, but barely noticable, and Im not sure if it was my particular moment, but the virtual kb lagged something terrible. I had to go to Houston TX during those 2 weeks and spent alot of time on the forums reading about the hero. Anyways, the night i got into town, i went to sprint and happily payed the $35 restocking fee in order to get the hero. I couldnt be happier, there is honestly not a thing i dont like about the phone, especially after rooting and loading fresh 1.1 on it. So my opinion, GET THE HTC HERO

I simply love my Hero its so useful, At work I usually have it on my desk and text my life away to my fiance, I also do some browsing on the market and browse my favorite sites, they don't really like us using the company computer to browse, but you can get away with it. The hero is more of a backup if the Directors are near by, At home I always have my desktop but on those nights where I just shut off my PC early and forget to look up something... just flick on WiFi and start browsing, while texting my fiance, while listening to my custom playlist... its beautiful.

I also switched from the Moment to the Hero. I actually had to get my first Moment replaced after about a week because of a GPS issue and could have chosen to switch to the hero but I gave the Moment another week and chose a new Moment. After about 2 weeks with the Moment, I decided to switch. Even with the slower CPU I enjoy the Hero much more than the Moment. I can type so much faster on the Hero's keyboard even in portrait mode. The auto correct works. I would have kept the Moment if the bottom row on the keyboard wasn't shifted over. The devs probably would have found a way to put sense ui on the Moment eventually and the faster cpu was a plus but I found it easier to just use the onscreen KB instead of having to always slide the keyboard out.

With that said, I do not miss the hardware keyboard at all. The one thing that I thought was really cool on the moment is that there was an LED flash which could be used as a flash light if you get the App for it.

The only reason to get the Moment is if you absolutely require a physical keyboard. Other than that, the Hero beats it hands down. And the virtual keyboard really isn't hard to get used to anyway.

What was the GPS issue you were having?
