What will replace your N1?

I saw some1 say something about a new Nexus phone coming out around christmas time..is this true?? any1 have a link?

Both the Nexus One and Nexus S was released around Christmas time. The N1 was released January 6, 2010 and the Nexus S was released December 18, 2010. So based on pass Nexus released by Google, it is just an expectation that the next Nexus will be released around there too.

To be honest, I probably won't replace my N1 for a few more years. It was my first smartphone and I absolutely adore it as much today as I did the day I got it. I have a special bond with it, and to be honest, nothing at all is wrong with it. So why replace it? :)

Agree. One issue I have it the limited space internally. Other than that it does everything I want a phone to do. I've even used the trick (in another thread here somewhere) to move almost all apps to SD, but still only have about 25MB free. How do you all cope with the limited storage? FYI - I'm not rooted, and don't want to root.

since i originally started this thread, i've had about 7-8 friends get their first android or upgrade to one of the newer androids. i've played with the mytouch 4g, ns, facinate & vibrant, incredible x2, and the droid 2. they are all happy with their phones, except the one guy with the samsung. after playing with all the phones, i just wish the n1 had a 4" super amoled screen. really didn't see anything else that i would appreciate. kind of ironic that the super amoled screen i love the most is only available on the phones made by the manufacturer i like the least.

crossing my fingers for a n3 by htc or motorola. also hoping that they speed up the release cycle. end of summer / fall would be really nice. and last on my wishlist, someone makes a screen like the samoled other than samsung.

N3 all the way :) Well most likely -- need to see the dern thing and it's specs 1st. I have been really pleased with the Nexus updates though so huge points for Google there.

Same here. I was going to go with the Nexus S but figured i would wait to see if a newer phone was coming and sure enough...
I'm in the market for something to replace my N1 with but can hold out until December or so to see the N3.

Well, I finally jumped ship, reluctantly.

I was offered too good a deal by Vodafone to not say no.

I deliberated long and hard over the Samsung Galaxy SII and the HTC Sensation.

I spent over an hour in the Vodafone shop testing both phones before deciding and then finally plumped for the Galaxy SII in spite of being a life long Samsung hater.

My reasons were:-

The Super Amoled screen of the SII is amazing in all lights. Very clear in daylight, the best I've seen.

The extra RAM on the SII gave me almost 3 times the free RAM than that of the Sensation after boot up.

The 2GB of internal memory on the SGII allows me to keep all my app's there with 1.5GB to spare not to mention the 16GB of phone memory (on my model) and the, up to, 32GB SDCard.

Excellent camera and speakers on the SII, better than the Sensation IMHO.

Since I'm a big Cyanogen Mod fan I knew that I would be rooting my phone immediately and so TouchWiz and Sense 3 did not come into it.

Bigger battery on the SII.

Having said all that, I've still got my trusty Nexus One and continue to crack flash it nightly. :D

Looks like I will be jumping ship shortly too, to a sammy s2.

The n1 is still fast enough for me but I have hardly any apps on it anymore. Installing google+ the other week meant I had to delete a boatload more to squeeze it on.

If it wasn't for the almost weekly app purge I am now doing, I would also wait until the rumoured n3..

Ironass- same here i'm not the only samsung snob then!
Just got to start the long conversation with retentions to get it for free now!

you just couldn't resist that sexy little screen? :D
Not so little...

It really is very clear in all lights. No more shielding it in bright sunlight to view things.

Extremely good on battery as well. Have it set to auto brightness and it adjusts very quickly.

The latest 2.3.4 firmware is also a battery saver for me.

Just wish that CM would release a Nightly or two.... getting crack flash withdrawal symptoms.

Thank goodness for the Sexy Nexy. Still flashing! :D

Funny you guys are talking about replacing your Nexus Ones. I just bought a Nexus One to replace my G1. I guess I'm a bit behind technologically. :p

Ah I know how you feel! I just bought a Nexus One a few months ago to replace my myTouch, even knowing of the N1's problems and age. I just Love the look of the Nexus One (the most attractive phone in my opinion) and its multicolored trackball is a Huge plus for me. Also, the fact that barely anyone has this phone is pretty cool ^^

I love my N1 but the only thing that I can consider replacing it with is the Nexus Prime this Thanksgiving when that comes out....the specs are crazy and it will be on another level when it hits.

I am staying away from any mention of the Nexus Prime (3) or whatever until it comes out in Q4 and I know what the specs are. Following the Nexus S rumours for months only ended up in a big fat disappointment for me.

My 2-year Nexus one anniversary is in November, I will be upgrading at thattime as I am on a friends loaner N1 since I took mine swimming (the nexus onecan't swim if anyone was curious). I also learned that some people don't takevery good care of the devices, my phone had maybe 1 or 2 dings from gettingdropped this phone looks like it went to war and the power button is brokewhich has been difficult to get used to.
As of right now I am getting the Sensation but we will see what is out bythen I don't see anything exciting on the horizon and with the N3 going to beanother Samsung it is out of the question.

I don't know how is your N1 getting a "2-year anniversary" this November when it only came out in January 2010. But right now nothing looks that good. Unless it's vanilla android, I don't want it. I think the N3 will be my next device.
I got my N1 in March 2010 and I HAVE to use it for at least 2 years in order to get my money's worth ($500+).

I agree on the "weekly app" purges. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't even be considering another phone. I'm going with the galaxy s2 though. I'd rather have a phone that I can use and that I can put apps on, then wait for a phone that isn't even close to reality yet.

The only two phones that i want are the GS2 and the N3. At this point it looks like the GS2 will come out by the time the N3 gets detailed

Yep. I agree.

So I did get the Galaxy S2 and it's quite a change from the N1!

Thoughts:

The ringer is LOUD
Volume in calls is perfect
The build quality feels very flimsy compared to the metal housing of the N1. the plastic feels too light.
The sound for music, etc is great - not tinny or choppy but good without headphones
The screen is excellent with some beautiful colors
The camera is also excellent, with controllable flash etc.

So if you're thinking of changing, this is a good phone to get, and one that won't have you missing your N1 too much. Especially after you add app after app without even coming close to filling up the available memory. ;)
