Just got my EVO 3D yesterday. I've been playing around with it a lot and getting it all set up (first android phone). Everything was working fine, but all of a sudden I can't turn on my media volume. If I try to watch a movie or listen to music there is no sound. When I use the volume rocker to try and turn it up, the media volume displays but won't turn up. I also tried going into settings and turning up the media volume there. It turns up, but immediately turns all the way down. Any ideas to what may be going on? Am I just an android noob?

Seems to be a problem with most EVO 3D we need to bombard the HTC forum and call center for them to address the issue, there are many threads here and over at XDA in reference to this

Welcome to Android and Welcome to the forums. Sounds like the down volume button is temporarily mashed down. Try removing the battery cover and checking the area where the button is and the inside of the battery door (Make sure everything is aligned. While you are in there pull the battery out for 30 seconds and then re-install the battery. Then carefully re-install the door making sure the side with the volume rocker is aligned and installed first. I'm guessing that should fix it. Seems like these new style buttons are pretty touchy. I like them alot though. Better to be too responsive than non responsive.

I have the same problem bkertz. Pyrosporker, it's not a physical issue, because ringer volume can still be turned up and down normally with the volume buttons when media isn't playing. It's definitely a software issue. I'm going to call support today and I'll post back what I can find.

Well that's a very interesting turn of events. Maybe you can help out by listing specifically which programs you are using and what functions you are utilizing. Like which form of audio output you are using; Wired headphones, Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth Link, Speakerphone, etc.

First of all, sorry for being "that guy" and forgetting to follow up in here. I was able to "fix" my problem by doing a battery pull. After powering back on I was able to adjust the media volume. I was going to give it a couple days to see if it came back before posting (obviously I forgot to follow up). Unlike Acipollo, mine has not come back.

I wonder if it has anything to do with a rogue app. Just a thought. I did get a little app happy after first getting the phone, and have since uninstalled a bunch of apps. Perhaps this could explain why it has been a one time issue for me. Maybe I'm overthinking things here.

I had the same problem, but I pulled the case off and found out that where the volume buttons go, on the case it self has these 2 Nubs on there and the Volume down nub was broken, I guess when I bought the phone when they went to put the Battery in they didnt snap the case in the right way. But the good people of Radio Shack replaced the case and now im good as gold. Remember when you pull the back case off start with the side with the Volume Nubs first then snap the left side.

I have had the same problem with my media volume but it only happens when I go about the following sequence.

-Start Spiderman 3D Video Game
-Once game menu comes up the media volume goes silent and I cannot change media volume with the side buttons
-I have to restart my phone in order for the media volume to work again

I thought it was a software glitch only on my phone, but it sounds like others are having similar issues. Hopefully we can all find an answer...for me it sucks that I can't play the Spiderman 3D game anymore!

Well this would definitely explain why I have only had the media volume issue once. I only played Spiderman once to check it out. Crazy that a game could cause a bug like this.

Very interesting indeed. I've played the Spiderman Demo twice and one time it locked up my volume rocker - it didn't allow any volume changes whatsoever after backing out of the game (as opposed to letting me change it, but it going back to mute like in the original post). I did a run of the mill restart and all was well so I wrote it off. We may have found A culprit here?

It can easily be patch fixed in the future by the developer or HTC I'd bet. You could try going into the applications manager and clearing the data for that game demo, then when you go back to play it you will maybe have a fresh start (it probably won't remember your volume settings, unless it is system determined)? Just an idea.
Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All Programs Tab -> Spider-Man -> Clear Data

I had/have similar problem, while playing the spider man or pumpkin game if I turn the volume all the way to off while the game is running, most of the time it will get stuck there. even if I turn off the game, go to setting and put it all the way up , it doesnt stay there. the only thing to "fix"it is to do a restart.

Thanks for the help PyroSporker. After I experienced the media volume problem the first time I cleared the app cache, but it didn't help. So just now, per your suggestion I went to my phone's settings and cleared the app data. Unfortunately, this did not fix the problem either. After the Spiderman 3D game is loaded and the video clip is done playing the media volume goes to nothing and I the volume buttons cease to work.

I wonder if this is a problem isolated to the Spiderman 3D game or if there is a possibility it will happen with other Sprint 3D games as well? I ask this because I kind of want to buy the Assassin's Creed 3D game off of the (Sprint) 3D Games App. But, I don't want to buy the game if I am not going to be able to hear it.

I recommend reporting this issue to HTC, especially now we have a solid way to reproduce the issue. Even though they don't make the game, and the game could very well be the culprit, HTC is the one that put the game on the final release ROM. And at face value, this is an issue with the volume of the phone, which is a potential hardware issue.

Reporting bugs to HTC: do it!

Thanks for the link to the thread. I reported the issue to HTC. I was very detailed, thanks again Novox77!

Saw a couple of old threads for other handsets, so maybe this is a persistent issue that has no fix, but figured I'd ask (the few threads I ducked into only had a "reboot" fix).

If I boot up the phone and use the volume rocker, everything is fine (in call volume and ringer both work perfectly), however, if I then open something like iheartradio and listen to a bit of streaming music and adjust the volume with the rockers, even after I've exited entirely out of the app I'm stuck with adjusting media volume instead of ringer volume with the rockers until a reboot.

Anyone else had this issue, or found a fix?

Looks like lots of people are experiencing this - reporting is a good idea, see link above.

I've been able to cure this the time it hit me by launching stock music app and toggling headphones and speaker - hit that quite by accident, can't say if it will always work.

Edit - bizarre.

I had iHeartradio screw me up. Then ran VEVO - fixed it.

Repeated same sequence - no joy.

This happened to me in the same fashion as a previous post has described; namely, after I started the 3D Spiderman Game, the media volume was totally defunct. I solved my issue through killing the app via task manager (which I usually never do). Other than that, I can't say I've had many issues with it.

Got my Evo 3D on Sunday, played around with the Spiderman game on break, came back to work to listen to Pandora and was not able to adjust the media volume. Went into settings and could slide the media volume up, however when I went back to pandora or any music the media volume would be at zero with no way to adjust it. After reading this thread I went in and cleared the app data for spiderman and boom volume works perfect on pandora and di.fm apps. Thanks for the tips!

Fix: Go into Sound settings and change the Sound profile to Normal (preferably before launching the game, but works after-the-fact too, if you forget). Mine defaulted to Vibrate, and it seems that this game is programmed to disable sound (only after the splash screen and intro video, go figure) if it detects this or the Silent profile. Now I can hear the game, for a change.

This worked for me, just had to set the sound profile to normal or anything other than vibrate. I guess that most of us who were having problems had our phone's profiles set to vibrate. Thanks for finding such an easy fix!

I am having an issue with the side button volume controls. I realize that they change from media volume to call volume depending on the circumstances, but i am only able to change the media volume even when i have no appps open or no hedphones plugged in. I notice that whn i hold down the up volume button the call volume window wiill apear for a split second and then go right back to media volume. So i have no way to change the call volume without manually going into setttinvs. Is this a known issue or what is causing it?
