Official Bionic Release Date Thread

It depends on the system being used. Function is directly tied to the UI, and Android is a fully functional touch UI.

A physical keyboard is simply a matter of preference, but I wouldn't make the argument that it adds inherent function. If it's more impractical for a user, it detracts from it, actually.

Not seeing where the debate is. The D3 has a keyboard, so can interact with more content (Flash being an example, since a lot of it needs key inputs). Also more functional with number row on keyboard, rather than using a VKB. This is fact, regardless if you use it or not. Personal preference does not detract from this.

You folks are pushing semantics as absolutes, but whatever makes you happy is cool.

That's a great point. I can see how some games would be more playable w/hardware keyboard and using two hands.

Just saying that what's more functional for one person isn't necessarily for another. I'm not a gamer, so the minor disadvantages of having a keyboard outweigh what are for me nonexistent advantages. I like the D3; it just needs LTE (to beat a dead horse).

One thing seems certain. Based on people complaining about the current pentile displays, imagine their ire if the Bionic has a 4.5" version.

That said, even if I buy the D3, if the splash screen sound for the Bionic goes, "Nu nu nu nu nuuuh!"- I will get the Bionic, post haste :)

Ha everyone will be up in arms about how terrible the screen looks and how you can see all the pixels. I mean look how many are already hating on the droid 3 screen.

Try not to be so defensive-- you asked a question in a discussion thread, and received a response in the form of perspective. Not sure what semantics are in play.

Added function, by itself, is of lesser significance, if the quality and relevance of that function isn't in high demand. That's called being superfluous, and is many times the case with a full touch UI.

The current popularity and range of non-physical keyboard devices, reinforces what the market demands and is willing to bear (preference). If you respectfully disagree, that's fine. :)

rushmore, have you had a chance to play around with the D3 yet? How is the screen compared to the AMOLED Incredible?

Yes- today. I prefer the sharpness and the ability to see the D3 display outside, where the Inc is a near joke, in that regard.

D3 display looks like a 4" version of the DX2.

Here is my micro-brief review: Seems Motorola might have two great VZW devices within a month or so (Bionic and D3).

I am not defensive! :eek::mad::eek: ....... :);)

Nope, just not seeing how having a KB on a device like this does not afford it more functionality- with all other things constant. Not seeing how a KB is superfluous for a smartphone like this....... You know I noticed I started hearing the word "superfluous" a LOT more after Johnny Depp said it in one of the POTC movies.

It is all good. Ain't it?

People on other android type forums said they did the same thing for other phone and never got an email until the phone was out already. So this just means that Aug 4th is looking more and more like a sure thing finally.

That was the case with the HTC Thunderbolt, for me anyhow. I'll know when Bionic releases here well before Verizon I'm sure. At least the sign up page is a hint of movement.

I had a rep in a Vzn Corp. store 3 weeks ago tell me Bionic was not being released! I can't wait to go in there on launch day and taunt him. He was being rude to me because I was activating a used TBolt and not buying a new phone on contract. I told him I was waiting for a real phone before locking in to two years.

Leave it to Verizon/Motorola to make a potentially awesome phone, and then kill it by sitting on it until it becomes obsolete. August 4th is my deadline for this phone; after that, I'll just wait for a superior device.

Same here after that they lost my sale.

You guys are so funny. I bet you're still going to get the phone. I know I am. I can speak about how bad Motorola has treated me, much like an abusive partner, but I will pick up this phone when it comes out. Then I will drown myself in its pentile, blur awesomeness to forget about all of the pain "the end of waiting" has put me through. ;)

That is, of course, unless another dual core, 4g LTE phone sweeps off my feet (please let it be the SGSII or an HTC Sensation variant).

I'm very firm when it comes to decisions about which companies get my money. I realize that we aren't even supposed to know the launch date (and we really don't), but they have been sitting on this phone since CES. The more they push this phone back, the closer they push it to the launch of a better phone.

Well it looks like there is another possible release date. September 1 is what droid-life is saying now is the release date. Also the phone he is referring to besides the Bionic is some Samsung 4G LTE Slider.

All signs on our end are pointing towards the DROID Bionic being their first real LTE beast (dual-core, 1GB of RAM, etc.) that will be backed by a massive marketing campaign. My guess, is that this phone will be their late July or early August 4G LTE filler while they prepare the world for the release of the Bionic (which may not drop until 9/1).
