Hi,
As mustymod is closed source, I wanted to know how much can installing mustymod compromise my security.
Could he, for example, put something in it to log my passwords etc. How much trust am I actually putting into this guy by installing this?

I wanted to know as it seems to be in pretty usable shape, but I don't know if I want to take my chance with installing something which could be malicious.

Musty can do anything and you can't block till you use his mod. Easy - in PC you can hit "block" in firewall. With mustymod nobody knows what is working inside. Till he release source code basicaly you can only belive and pray!

Sure you can hit block on the PC firewall but often you can only either block or allow an app, it would be fairly easy to slip something nasty into an App that requires internet access to work and most people would allow it through their firewall.

i'd lock and delete this thread. we need more testers for his rom, and making people afraid won't help. if you're interested in general security model of android, open a thread in general forum. if you're afraid that mustymod who wasted really a lot of time and knowledge to bring eclair is capturing your credit card data and sending it to Istanbul then you have a lot of options.

i think he just won't bother wasting time on specifying what he changed in his rom. i say let him do what he knows and when he stops then whine.

whilst your right in a sense andronix im not a sensor for peoples feelings when its a valid point raised.
there is no reason why this thread should be deleted at all
this thread applies to all rom cookers and people need to actually understand it.
we are not the government, we should not be hiding information from people

mustymod dev knows this, its obvious hes going to have these questions raised. if it deters him from a project as some people have a few secuirity concerns then id be absolutely shocked.

Yeah Rasta, how about sticky it? We need to warn people not to install possible malware. :)
it doesnt need stickying either, its just a question.

sometmes andronix you are one of the most helpfull people about then othertimes you have an attitude. i dont get you at all

nobody is saying dont install it, im certainly not and no one else has.
question was asked if someone could potentially do these things. the answer is yes
