Hi, I'm a bit new to android so never updated the software in case I stuffed up. Finally updated from 1.6 to 2.1 software and backed everything up with back up and restore app. Got everything except my contacts back. Managed to get the back up file on my computer but now can't extract the contacts because apparently win.RAR can't read the file. Don't want to flash the file because I have no clue what I'm doing and don't want to corrupt the entire system. Any help would be great. Sony Ericsson customer service haven't helped at all. Didn't back up with google or cloud either.

What backup and restore software did you use? Did you use a google account and sync your contacts? Or did you use a Sony email address and backup some stuff? I don't think they usually make a RAR file like you are talking about. Did you use Titanium Backup or something?

Some backup and restore apps only backup and restore software and don't backup contacts.

Or are you contacts actually hiding on the SIM card? Have you checked the SIM card by opening Contacts, hitting the Menu/left button and then choosing More and Import from SIM and see if any of your contacts are on there.
