Cricket Announces Huawei Ascend II

What I read when this initially leaked a couple months ago was yes, it will have a GPU. However, a lot of the specifics seem to have disappeared from the internet in subsequent searches. I do remember reading that it would have the Qualcomm MSM7627 chipset, which is the same as what's in the Optimus One variants (S, V, M, C, T) and the Galaxy Prevail, among others. This chipset includes the Adreno 200 GPU.

Essentially, this phone should be directly comparable to the LG Optimus since it has the same chipset.

Yeah,I noticed that same 'disappearing act' of detailed information.

Nice phone, just not enough of an upgrade to switch.
Developer interest+price/2.3 onboard will probably drive sales of this phone as it did w/the original ASCEND.

There are a lot of videos of it on youtube already. Its been confirmed that it only runs at 600mhz. Good things are the 3.5mm headphone jack, proximity sensor, led notification light and gpu. Definitely a good entry level phone, but not enough for me to get one. I don't think this one will have the support of the original. The Ascend came at a perfect moment in time for what it was, but I think people have moved on to bigger and better things and this is just not enough of an upgrade. I also don't think any devs will bother latching on to this phone to develop for. There are too many similar devices on the market now that I don't see the point. People need to realize how fortunate the Ascend community is that Isaac picked this phone up. Is there another Isaacj87 out there for the Ascend 2? You never know, but I wouldn't count on it.

All of this is true & makes sense. The only challenge that I see to entice aftermarket development is to upgrade it to ICE CREAM SANDWICH, if at all possible ........

Also, I can't believe there is still no multi-touch screen, and still no auto-focus for the camera. I have a feeling they are just using the same screens they had left over from the Ascend. One cool thing is they include a stock Android launcher as well as the Huawei launcher. Thats something you don't see all the time.

and no flash for the camera...

Hey, I could be wrong. There might be some 17 year old kid just getting his shiny new Ascend 2 for his birthday and already planning on hacking into it who will go on to do great things.:D

first thing that it would need is a CWM built for it. Second is a system dump or a nandroid backup to just be able to cook a rom for it.

And 3rd w/o src code it will be in the same boat as the ascend, a CM7 port might be doable, but w/o src code and/or a very willing and savvy coder, it wont ever get fully functional just like the Ascend.

So... I'm thinking I might get this next week... I'm coming across a little extra $$$ because I've worked a sh!t ton of OT this pay period, and I was thinking if I get it and do a system dump and get it in the hands of the right devs it might help the community. It's the least I can do for all the help I've received here.

Any tips on how I might go about getting it in the right hands, or if it WILL even help???
